Unit 5 On the road-Using Language教案
Teaching objectives:
1. Enable students to find and summarize the usage of -ing as attributive and apply it in real contexts.Meanwhile,they will learn and apply some words and expressions related to travelling.
2. Guide students to deepen their understanding of travelling and stimulate their interest in travelling.Meanwhile,they will learn to compare the Western travellers and Chinese ones in different aspects.
3. Help students to learn more about -ing as attributive by observing,analyzing and illustrating.Thus,they will deepen their own understanding of -ing as attributive.
4. Lead students to explore more usage of -ing as attributive and compare it with that of -ed as attributive through self-study and cooperation.
Evaluation objectives:
1. Ask students whether they could recognize the -ing as attributive and whether they have mastered the usage of -ing as attributive and apply it in real contexts.
2. Ask students whether they could properly use some words and expressions related to travel.
3. Check students’ ability on using the content and words related to asking the way on a trip.

Teaching procedures:
Step1:Lead-in
The teacher will lead students to look at the sentences from the interview and answer the questions on Page53 and find out the other sentences with -ing as attributive in the passage“Blogging Australia”on Page50-51.Then, teachers introduce the main topic of this class.
Purpose:Introduce the grammar item of this class:-ing as attributive.
Step2: Teach a new class
Ⅰ.Autonomic learning
The teacher will require students to discuss the similarities of the underlined attributive clauses in the passage and then summarize the law of application of -ing as attributive.
Purpose:Summarize the usage of -ing as attributive.
ⅡAchievement display
When the attributive expresses the action that is active and taking place, we can use -ing as attributive.
Purpose:It will be much more effective to let students summarize the law of application of -ing as attributive on their own.
ⅢCooperative research
Students are required to discuss why the author uses -ing as attributive rather than attributive clause in the passage.
Purpose: Let students realize the key point of -ing as attributive in the composition and lead students to try to use -ing as attributive in their following writing.
Ⅳ.Break through the difficult points
Students are required to analyze the usage of -ing as attributive again.
1. The place of the -ing as attributive
When the -ing as attributive is just a word, it will be placed before the modified word.When the -ing as attributive is a phrase, it will be placed after the modified word.
Eg.1.He is an player.
他是一名攻击型选手。
2.He asked an question.
他问了一个让人尴尬的问题。
3.Do you know the number of people ?
你知道来参加聚会的人数吗?
4.The boy is my classmate.
站在窗户旁边的这个男生是我的同学。
感悟:
如果是单个的现在分词形式作定语,常被放在被修饰词之前,做前置定语。
请注意现在分词做前置定语和被修饰词之间的关系。
(1)下列例句中,被修饰词是分词的逻辑主语,且表示正在进行的主动动作,即主动、进行。
the rising sun = the sun that is rising
a sleeping child = the child who is sleeping
boiling water = the water that is boiling
(2)表示主动但不正在进行, 。
He is a student.
他是个前途无量的学生。
常用于此类的词有exciting,amusing,astonishing,confusing,disappointing,boring,tiring,moving,interesting,satisfying,frightening等。
①That must have been a experience.
那准是一段可怕的经历。
②The experiment was an success.
那项实验是一个惊人的成功。
v-ing做定语时的位置(之二)
A.Do you know the number of people ?
B.The boy is my classmate.
感悟:
1.如果是现在分词形式的短语作定语,则常放在被修饰词之后做后置定语。
2.短语作定语时,放在所修饰的名词之后,在意思上相当于一个定语从句。

(2)这时现在分词已经变成形容词;promising

拓展:
定语从句转化成现在分词作定语
(1)基本规则:在有定语从句的复合句中,如果先行词在从句中作主语,同时从句中的谓语动词用主动时态,那么这个定语从句可以转化为现在分词作定语的形式。
eg.The man who teaches us Chinese is Mr.Yu.
The man teaching us Chinese is Mr.Yu.
(2)位置:单个现在分词作定语置于名词之前,现在分词短语作定语则应置于名词之后。
eg.a)The boy who is sleeping is Tommy.
The sleeping boy is Tommy.
b)Did you see the homeless man who was sleeping under the bridge?
Did you see the homeless man sleeping under the bridge?
(3)特殊用法:现在分词的完成式:having done。如果现在分词所修饰的名词是现在分词的发出者,且现在分词所表示的动作发生在谓语动词之前,则现在分词应用完成式:having done。
eg.The teacher who had finished his class slowly went out.
已经上完课的那位老师慢慢地走了出去。
转化成having done作定语:
The teacher having finished his class slowly went out.
Step 3:Have a try
Rewrite the underlined words using the -ing form.
The Bernina Express follows a route that runs from Eastern Switzerland to Northern Italy.People who travel aboard the Bernina Express have the chance to see incredible views.The landscape that lines the route is beautiful and dramatic,with snowy mountains and green valleys.There is no doubt that the Bernina Express is a journey for travellers who want to get back to nature:the train window becomes the TV screen,and the natural world is the show.
Step 4:Finish the advertisement on Page 53.
