Every year，the Wrld Heritage Cmmittee chses natural and cultural places arund the wrld that have glbal imprtance.They name these places Wrld Heritage Sites.When a place becmes a Wrld Heritage Site，it can receive mney frm the United Natins Educatinal Scientific and Cultural Organizatin (UNESCO)t help prtect it.
But even when a place is an fficial Wrld Heritage Site，it can still be at risk.Every year，the Wrld Heritage Cmmittee lks at Wrld Heritage Sites that culd be in danger.Frm these，they decide which places they will put n their fficial List f Wrld Heritage in Danger.
There are many reasns that a Wrld Heritage Site becmes endangered.Fr example，places can becme endangered thrugh natural eclgical (生态的) damage.Over time，wind and water can break dwn natural areas.Anther risk t natural areas arund the wrld is climate change.Fr example，rising temperatures affect the Sagarmatha Natinal Park.In the park stands Munt Everest，the wrld's tallest muntain.Beautiful ice glaciers n the tp f the muntain are nw melting(融化)．It als affects the lcal plants and animals.
Much f the risk t Wrld Heritage Sites cmes frm human acts.Abu Mena is an ancient Christian city in Egypt.It is a histrical site made f many ld stne buildings.Abu Mena was listed as a Wrld Heritage Site in 1979.Recent farming prjects in the area caused undergrund water levels t rise.This makes the grund unstable (不稳定的)．Sme f the buildings f Abu Mena fell.The Egyptian gvernment put sand at the base f sme f the buildings.But the site is still in danger.
