2. Teaching students what a summary is and practicing writing summaries.

1.Develping students' skill f grasping the main pints f a news reprt.
2.Teaching techniques t cut ut unimprtant details while writing summaries.
教学过程
Activity 1:
Ask students t analyze the infrmatin in a picture (frm Tsunami hits Asia: ver 6500 dead) and identify key cmpnents f a news reprt, such as the headline and byline.
设计意图:引导学生积极分析图片中的信息,并识别新闻报道的关键组成部分,如标题和署名。此活动旨在激发学生阅读兴趣,识别新闻报道文体。
Activity 2:
Guide students t make predictins n what main pints shuld be included in the news reprt abut a natura disaster.
设计意图:引导学生预测关于自然灾害的新闻报道应包含哪些主要要点。此活动旨在培养学生的预测能力,加深他们对新闻报道结构的理解,并通过引出5W1H新闻报道要素。
Activity 3:
Instruct students t read the news reprt abut a tsunami (Page 54) , lcate the 5W1H infrmatin and cmplete a table.
Activity 4:
Ask students t read the text again and answer 5 questins.
Why des the reprter use s many numbers in the reprt?
What ther supprting details are used t reprt the tsunami?
Wuld it be difficult t deliver fd and supplies?
What might be the number f deaths?
D yu think the reprt is believable? Why r why nt?.
Activity 5:
Based n ideas in activity 3 and activity 4, summarize the structure f a news reprt, including: headline, byline, lead, bdy and further infrmatin.
设计意图:帮助学生系统地梳理新闻报道的组成部分,提升他们的归纳总结能力,并加深对新闻报道整体结构的认识,并为下文的概要写作构建理论框架。
Activity 6:
Ask students t read a sample summary writing and check what main pints mentined in activity 5 are included in the sample writing.

Ask students t summarize what is a summary and hw t write a summary.
