教学重点:
1. Fcus n helping students understand the detailed structure f the argumentative essay.
2. Fcus n leading students write an argumentative essay based n the relevant knwledge we’ve learned during class..
教学难点:
1. The difficulty will lie in guiding students t find ut the the relatinship between the supprting evidence.
2. Help students analyze the thesis statement by using the checking list frmed during class.
教学过程
Activity 1: Lead-in
By using a picture f Starship’s failed test flight t explre space, I will intrduce the tpic f space explratin t students. And then shw Eln Musk’s psitive attitude twards space explratin. Ask students’ attitude twards is t aruse students’ interest in this tpic.
Activity 2: Read fr Main Idea
The pint f writing is t have a general understanding f the main idea f the essay, therefre, we need t read first. Ask students t underline the tpic sentence f each paragraph by lcating the discurse markers.
Activity 3: Read fr Structure
Finish the structure f this essay based n the main idea abve.
Judging frm the structure, it can be cncluded by the students that this structure develps in a linear way, s it is called linear develpment and explain what linear develpment it is.

Activity 4: Read fr Cntent
Read fr thesis statement.
1. Lead students t find ut hw t write a thesis statement.
Thesis statement is cmpsed f backgrund, thers’ pinin and the authr’s pinin. Meanwhile, help students analyze the structure f thesis statement by using discurse markers, such as instead, hwever.
Guide students t infer the ppnents’ pinin that space explratin can't help feed the wrld’s pr and can't help find immediate slutins t ther prblems. This can be divided int tw arguments: Argument 1:Space explratin can’t help feed the wrld’s pr. Argument 2: Space explratin can't help find immediate slutins t ther prblems.
Read fr Argument 1.
(1) Structure: It is made up f the tpic sentence and supprting evidence in the fllwing. Ask students hw the tpic sentence and supprting evidence are written.
(2) The way t understand tpic sentence:
Allw students t get that the reasning methd adpted here is called cunterargument because this tpic sentence is against the ppnents’ argument 1 and explain this reasning methd.
The way t understand supprting evidence:
By analyzing a list f discurse markers, then, after, as a result, I’ll help students understand these discurse markers shw the cause and effect relatinship.
Read fr Argument 2.
(1) Structure: It is als made up f the tpic sentence and supprting evidence in the fllwing.
(2) The way t understand tpic sentence: Frm the verb phrase “has already prmted”, we can get it shws a fact.
(3) The way t understand supprting evidence:
Ask students tw questins:
Q1: And hw des space explratin benefit the prducts that peple use nwadays?
Q 2: Then hw des the authr t shw his supprting evidence?
A1: Advanced technlgy develped fr space explratin has prmted technlgical imprvements that benefit us all by allwing prducts t be made t a higher standard.
A2: Accrding t the three discurse markers fr example, als, tday, it lists three examples t supprt this argument 2.
Read fr Argument 3.
Ask student the questin belw:
Q1: What is the relatinship between this argument and the Oppnents' argument 2 that pace explratin can't help find immediate slutins t ther prblems.
A1: This argument is against ppnents’ argument. S the reasning methd adpted here is called cunterargument.
Q2: What did the pictures f Earth frm space make peple realise?
A2: They make peple realise that ur planet’s resurces are limited.
Q3: Then what are peple ding t slve this prblem?
A3: Scientists are trying t find t ther new planet.
By asking students the three questins, I will guide students t answer that the essay explains the details t shw supprting evidence, s the supprting evidence is shwn by explanatin.
Read fr Clsing
In the end, ask students t say the element f the last paragraph.Students might say it rephrases its thesis statement and persuades us t believe space explratin can bring us benefits.
Summary fr the Cntent
Ask students t finish the summary fr the cntent by using the frm n students’s wrksheet.
Summary fr Language Features
Ask students t summarize the language features:
1. Discurse Markers:
instead, hwever, firstly,then, after, as a result, secndly, fr example, als, finanlly, in clsing, therefre, etc.
2. Linear Develpment:
Tpic sentence is fllwed by supprting evidence.
Activity 5: Read fr Writing
Task 1:Ask students t finish the task belw.

1. Share yur writing with yur classmates and exchange yur ideas abut yur essay.
2. Plish yur writing with yur classmates accrding t the checking list and yur classmates' feedback.
