    关系代词引导的限制性定语从句当修饰名词或代词的定语用句子表达的时候,就构成了定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词称作先行词,指代先行词且引导定语从句的词称为关系词(分为关系代词和关系副词)。定语从句和先行词之间无逗号,该从句通常就是限制性定语从句。引导限制性定语从句的关系代词有which,that,wh,whm,whse等。

    二、关系代词的用法1.that的用法that既可指人也可指物,在定语从句中通常作主语、宾语或表语,而且作宾语或表语时常可省略。This is the bk (that) I want t read.这就是我想读的那本书。(that指代the bk,在定语从句中充当宾语)My hmetwn is n lnger the place (that ) it used t be.我的家乡已经不再是过去那个面貌了。(that指代the place,在定语从句中充当表语)
    [名师点津]  that作状语常见于way,reasn等词后的定语从句中,相当于in which,fr which等,可省略。I dn't like the way (that/in which) yu speak t yur teacher.我不喜欢你跟老师讲话的方式。
    2.which的用法which指物,在定语从句中通常作主语或宾语,常与that互换使用,作宾语时常可省略。D yu still remember the factry (which/that ) we visited ten years ag?你还记得十年前我们参观的那家工厂吗?(which/that指代the factry,在定语从句中充当宾语)
    3.wh的用法wh指人,在定语从句中通常作主语或宾语,作宾语时相当于whm,可省略。The tall man wh is playing basketball is my brther.正在打篮球的那个很高的人是我哥。(wh指代The tall man,在定语从句中充当主语)
    4.whm的用法whm指人,在定语从句中作宾语,常可省略。This is the girl (whm) I met in the street.这是我在街上遇到的那个女孩。(whm指代the girl,在定语从句中充当宾语)
    [名师点津] 如果which,whm位于介词后面作宾语,就不可以省略,whm也不能用wh代替。It was a crisis fr which she was ttally unprepared.这是一场她完全没有防备的危机。He is a scientist fr whm we have the greatest respect.他是我们非常尊敬的一位科学家。
    5.whse的用法whse既指人又指物,在定语从句中作定语。I have read the bk whse characters I like very much.我已经读了这本书,我很喜欢它里面的人物。(whse指代先行词the bk,在定语从句中充当定语,修饰characters )This is the scientist whse name is knwn all ver the cuntry.这就是那位全国知名的科学家。(whse指代先行词 the scientist, 在定语从句中充当定语,修饰name )
