As time goes by, are you still the same person you used to be? Many of you think about who you are. But according to a new study, your personality can change a lot. 21
Psychologists (心理学家) at the UK's University of Edinburgh did the study on a group of Scottish people. 22 The findings are published in a daily called Psychology and Aging.
The research is based on a study that began in 1950. 23 They tested six basic personality traits (特征): self-confidence, responsibility, patience, desire to success, creativity and moods.
In 2012, researchers successfully found 174 of the 1, 200 students, who were 77 years old on average at the time. They agreed to take a personality test similar to the one they had completed 63 years earlier.
Researchers then compared the then and now test results. 24 Moods and responsibility had changed less. But there were still not too many similarities between the two results.
The younger and older self seemed to be totally different for each person. "It was as if the second tests had been given to different people, " the study's authors noted.
25 William James, the father of American psychology, said that personality is "set like plaster (石膏板)". This new study may bring some fresh ideas to the theory.
A.In the past, personality was widely believed to be smooth.
B.A group of teachers gave more than 1, 200 14-year-old students personality tests.
C.The researchers disagreed that everyone's personality changed a lot as he or she grew old.
D.They were surprised to find great changes to all six personality traits of these people.
E.The research found that almost everyone's personality changed when they grew old.
F.You could be a completely different person at 77, compared to when you were a 14-year-old student, reported The Huffington Post.

In Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, a 5-storey building is completely covered(覆盖)by a living, green curtain. The so-called “living building” is the work of Dr. Hoang Nhu Tang. He was a university teacher.
It all started 30 years ago. Back then, this building was one of the tallest in the area. The sunlight shone the building all through the day in summer and that made it very uncomfortable to live in. Hoang decided to plant two creeping plants(匍匐植物)because he wanted to block(遮挡)sunlight. He was happy to see his idea worked and the temperature dropped a lot. And 30 years later, the plants still play their role. Hoang said it only took the creeping plants 8 or 9 years to completely cover the whole building, but guiding them towards that end was the hardest part. Now, he must cut off some of the branches(树枝)from the plants once or twice a month. It’s a way of stopping the plants from covering certain areas, like the windows.
“Because of the plants, the air in the house is very fresh and cool,” Hoang said. “The building is a peaceful place that helps people live peacefully with nature in this crowded city center.”
