定语从句一、定义在句中起定语的作用的从句叫作定语从句,被定语从句所修饰的词叫作先行词,定语从句通常跟在先行词之后由关系词引导。
二、定语从句的引导词1.关系代词
Can yu tell me the name f the inventr that/wh helped me the ther day?你能告诉我那天帮助我的那个发明家的名字吗?The train which/that has arrived is frm Beijing.已经到达的那列火车是从北京来的。This is ur new furniture whse clur is red.这是我们的新家具,它的颜色是红色的。
温馨提示定语从句中一般不用which做关系代词的几种情况: 1.先行词是anything,everything,nthing,few,all,nne,little等词, 或者由它们修饰时,关系词通常用that而不用which。 Have yu taken dwn everything that Mr Li said? 你记下李先生说的每句话了吗? There is little that I can d fr yu. 我几乎不能为你做什么。
2.先行词前有序数词修饰时,关系词通常用that而不用which。 The first place that they visited in China was the Great Wall. 他们在中国参观的第一个地方是长城。 3.先行词前有形容词最高级修饰时,关系词通常用that而不用which。 This is the best film that I have seen. 这是我看过的最好的电影。
4.先行词前有the very,the nly 等修饰时,关系词通常用that而不用which。 This is the very dictinary that I want t buy. 这正是我想买的词典。 After the fire in his huse,the ld car was the nly thing that he wned. 他家发生火灾之后, 那辆旧汽车成了他拥有的唯一的东西。
5.当主句是以wh,which,what开头的特殊疑问句时,引导定语从句的关系词一般用that,而不用which。 Which is the bk that he brrwed frm the library yesterday? 哪本是他昨天从图书馆借的书?
2.关系副词(1)where在从句中做地点状语,有时可用in/at which等代替。This is the factry where/in which he wrks.这就是他工作的工厂。
(2)when在从句中做时间状语,有时可用 at/n which等代替。This was the time when/at which he arrived.这就是他到达的时间。That was the day when/n which he was brn.那就是他出生的日子。(3)why在从句中做原因状语,有时可用 fr which代替。Can yu give the reasn why/fr which yu haven’t reached the gal?你能给出你没达到目标的原因吗?
三、限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句1.限制性定语从句:用来限制先行词的意义,是句子不可缺少的成分,没有它,整个句子的意义就不完整或不明确。引导限制性定语从句的关系代词有that,which,wh,whm,whse;关系副词有where,when,why。The girl whm/that/wh I saw tld me t stp.我看见的那个姑娘让我停下。
That’s the dish which/that yu’ve rdered.那就是你点的菜。This is the by whse bike has been lst.这就是丢了自行车的那个男孩。These are the reasns why we shuld d it.这些就是我们应该做这件事的原因。
温馨提示在限制性定语从句中,关系代词若在从句中做宾语,通常可以省略。 Have yu gt the parcel (that/which) I sent yu? 你收到我寄给你的包裹了吗?
2.非限制性定语从句:只能作为补充说明而没有限制词义的作用,常用逗号把它与句子其他部分分开,若去掉非限制性定语从句,对剩下的部分没有太大的影响。The driver,wh had been driving all day,was very tired.这个司机开了一整天的车,很疲惫。He will put ff the party until next Friday,when the guests will be free.他将聚会推迟到下周五,那时客人们都有空。
They rely n themselves,which has smething in cmmn with us.他们依靠自己,这与我们有相同之处。(在非限制性定语从句中,which有时指代前面的一个句子或其部分意义)She has fur children,three f whm have taken up a jb.她有四个孩子,其中三个已经工作了。(在非限制性定语从句中,代词/数词+f,常与whm/which连用)
