    There is, hwever, ne situatin in which English weather­speakers are nt required t bserve the agreement rule at all and that is the male­bnding argument, particularly the pub­argument. In the special envirnment f the pub, cnstant disagreement nt just n the weather, but n everything else as well—is a means f expressing friendship.
    While we may spend much f ur time cmplaining abut ur weather, freigners are nt allwed t criticize it. Indeed, this brings us t the weather as family rule. In this respect, we treat the English weather like a member f ur family: ne can cmplain abut the behavir f ne's wn children r parents, but any blame frm an utsider is unacceptable. The weather may be ne f the few things abut which the English are still uncnsciusly and unashamedly patritic (爱国的).

    Chinese­language teacher Xie Fang is excited that ne f her frmer students frm Indnesia has been admitted t Beijing Language and Culture University. The 19­year­ld student, Alvin Rizqi Adrian, achieved his dream f studying in China with a schlarship prvided by the Chinese gvernment.
    Xie met the by five years ag when she was selected t teach Chinese at Budi Utama Three Languages Natinal Schl in Ygyakarta, Indnesia. The schl, funded in 2006 by lcal Chinese, teaches in three languages—Indnesian, English and Chinese. The schl has mre than 970 primary, middle and high students,half f whm have Chinese ancestry.
    Xie taught students t speak and cmprehend Chinese during her year at the schl. “Mst Indnesian children start t learn Chinese after they enter primary schl,” Xie said. “But the textbks frm Singapre seemed relatively difficult fr them at that stage.” Xie mdified the cntent f the textbks t make it easier and mre interesting fr the Indnesian children t learn Chinese.
    One student in particular, Alvin Rizqi Adrian, impressed Xie a great deal. “At that time, he was a middle schl student. He was s interested in Chinese that he wrked very hard t learn and practice,” she said. Since 2004, Guangdng has sent 1,000 Chinese teachers t mre than 30 Chinese schls in 10 cuntries and regins.
    Indnesia has the largest number f Chinese teachers sent frm Guangdng, wh mainly wrk in kindergartens, schls and universities funded by verseas Chinese. They usually spend ne t tw years n the freign assignment. “Thse days in Indnesia made me feel very appreciated. The lcal peple have respect fr Chinese teachers.”Xie said. She keeps in tuch with her Indnesian students thrugh the Internet. “If I had the pprtunity t g t Indnesia t teach again, I wuld be very happy t see the children imprve their Chinese,” Xie said.
