Language is learned t be used in and fr cmmunicatin. S in this perid we shall have the students read, listen, write and speak in English, making use f the fcused wrds, expressins, structures and tpic ideas cvered in this unit.
Objectives
T help the students read, listen and write abut “friendship”
T help students design and speak n a questinnaire abut friendship
T help students describe a friend by writing based n the given example
Prcedures
1. Warming up by talking abut yuth prblems
What is the biggest prblem facing ur yuth tday and what can we d t help fix it? Culd smene ffer his pinin?
2. Learning t design a survey
Wrk in grups f fur. Design a survey t find ut what kind f friends yur classmates are. Yu can use the survey in the Warming Up as an example.
Step 1: In yur grup, cme up with fur situatins amng friends. Design fur questins accrdingly with three pssible answers.
Step 2: Put the fur questins tgether and frm a questinnaire.
Step 3: Check the questinnaire thrugh and try it ut n yur wn grup.
Step 4: Share yur questinnaire with anther grup and try each ther’s questinnaires.
3. Ding a guided writing task
G t page 6 t read, listen and talk abut the letter Lisa wrte t Wang. Think abut what advice yu can give t Lisa. And then write t Lisa as if yu were Wang the editr.
4. Assessing yur task
Is yur letter well develped? Are yur ideas well rganized t the pint? D yu have a gd chice f wrds and idims in yur writing? D yu get a gd mastery f the sentence structure? What kind f mistakes have yu made in yur writing? What can yu d t avid such mistakes?
5. Clsing dwn by studying prverbs
Here are sme prverbs abut friends and friendship. Read them carefully and pay attentin t the sentence stress and intnatin. As yu read think if yu agree r disagree with them.
I think the biggest prblem with yuth tday is simple lack f respect, and nt knwing what ‘disappintment’means.
Gne are the days in the really yung — where sprts have a winning team and lsing team...
I want my students t knw what it's like t lse, even if they try their hardest. I want my children t knw and understand the wrd ‘disappintment’and ‘frustratin’ —— instead f prtect their “weak” egs.
Once these little peple turn int adults, they wn't functin well in the real wrld withut knwing hw t cpe with the dwns as well as the ups.
