    Smething as simple as a gesture can shw friendliness in ne culture, embarrassment in anther, impatience in the third. Even silence means different things in different places. If yu want t avid making sme mistakes when travelling abrad, yu shuld pay attentin t the fllwing.
    Tuch
    Britain, alng with many cuntries in nrthern Eurpe and the Far East, has a nn-cntact(不接触的) culture. In thse cuntries, there is very little physical cntact in peple’s daily talks. Even tuching smene’s arm by accident is the reasn fr an aplgy. Hwever, in the high-cntact cultures f the Middle East, Latin America, and suthern Eurpe, the physical tuch is a big part f daily life.

    On a nursing judgment, I checked the infrmatin after the admitting clerk had finished recrding the family. N address—they were hmeless. The waiting rm was warm. I lked ut at the family surrunding the Christmas tree. The smallest ne was pinting at the televisin and speaking smething t her mther excitedly. The ldest ne was lking at her reflectin in a decratin n the Christmas tree.
    I went back t the nurses’ statin and mentined we had a hmeless family in the waiting rm. The nurses, cmplaining abut wrking n Christmas, turned t pity fr a family just trying t get warm n Christmas. Then ur team went int actin, much as we d when there’s a medical emergency. But this ne was a Christmas emergency. A special Christmas party was t be held.
