22.(8分)Early in the Iliad, Hmer's epic pem(史诗)abut the legendary, Trjan War, there ccurs a famus anecdte knwn as the catalgue f ships, which names all the Greek leaders and cntingents(小分队) wh came t fight at Try. Befre unflding this impressive muster rll (花名册),Hmer makes a special, public appeal t the Muses t ensure he gets the facts right:
Tell me nw, Muses, wh have yur hmes n Olympus-- fr yu are gddesses, and ever-present, and knw all things, and we hear nly rumur: nr d we knw anything
These lines reflect a central claim f epic petry—that thrugh the inspiratin f the Muses, daughters f Memry, it can preserve the knwledge f peple and the events f the past —a frmidable pwer in the nn-literate, ral cultures in which the Iliad evlved. The Iliad was cmpsed arund 750-2 BC, but its rigins lie at least sme five centuries earlier, deep in the Mycenaean Brnze Age---the wrld the Iliad petically evkes.
The Iliad is keenly aware f its rle as the keeper f memry, and credibility is central t its strytelling. The epic is a wrk f fictin, and relates the events f a few weeks in the tenth and final year f the Trjan War fught between Greeks and Trjans ver beautiful Helen, the Greek queen wh deserted her husband t elpe with a Trjan prince. Its cast f characters includes nt nly warrirs and their captives and families, but the immrtal Olympian gds, wh perfrm many supernatural acts in the curse f their eager participatin in the actin arund Try.
The Iliad has the reputatin fr being an exclusively(专门地) male epic, weak n female characters, but t chse nly ne example—Hmer's delicate characterizatin f Helen as a wman driven by reluctant remrseful(悔恨的) passin is as hauntingly(萦绕心头地)credible as any Anna Karenina.
Lnginus, a schlar in the 1st Century AD wrte that in recrding as he des the wunding f the gds, their quarrels, vengeance, tears, imprisnment and all their passins Hmer has dne his best t make the men in the Iliad gds and gds men. The scene between Achilles and Priam displays this inversin and crystallises what the Iliad pets had learned in the curse f the epic’s Jurney. That the gds we wrship might nt answer, and n ccasin humanity must rise t fill their place. That glry is clsely assciated with painful lss. That the victr shares the humanity f the mst vulnerable f the vanquished(战败者); that there is n such thing as pure victry in war.

D.beautiful Helen is a wman wrth respecting in the Iliad

B.Because t few females were well depicted.
C.Because its cast f characters includes nly males.
D.Because Helen was described as a passinate wman.
4、Which f the fllwing statements desn’t agree with the authr’s idea?

C.The victr gains everything withut any emtinal lss.
D.Bth the victr and the vanquished share the same humanity.

Hw strange wuld it be if, ne day in the future, everyne had such a car? N crazy driving, n quarrels, n cutting in; traffic laws wuld be respected and driving much safer. On the ther hand, imagine the cst savings fr lcal plice enfrcement (强制执行) and twn budgets withut all thse speeding and parking tickets.
A new technlgy has the ptential t change mdern sciety thrughly. There’s n questin that self-driving vehicles culd be an enrmus benefit. The ptential fr safer cars means accident statistics wuld drp: sme 94% f rad accidents in the U.S. invlve human errr. Older drivers and visually- r physically-disabled peple wuld gain a new level f freedm. Maintaining safe speeds and being electric, self-driving cars wuld sharply reduce pllutin levels and dependency n nn-renewable fuels. Rads wuld be quieter, peple safer.
But we must als cnsider the impact f the new technlgy n thse wh nw depend n driving fr their living. Accrding t the U.S. Department f Labr, in May 2015 there were 505,560 registered schl bus drivers. 24.(8分) ‘Turtle time!, ludly called ut by ne f my newly-fund friends, meant the beginning f either a mrning r afternn shift at Turtle Camp in Nusa Penida, Indnesia. Upn arrival at the prject each day, we wuld lk eagerly fr ur names n the whitebard t see which task we wuld be undertaking. Wuld it be the highly desirable ‘turtle feeding’, the pretty fun ‘tank cleaning’, the exciting ‘medicine administering’ r the less appealing ‘fish cutting’? Fine in thery but nt when every fly in Indnesia decides t crwd nt these dead fish while yu’re cutting!
Life at the turtle prject was fun because twice a day we gt t hang ut with sea turtles. By ‘hang ut’, I bviusly meant ‘wrk’, as we were n shift, but it certainly didn’t feel like wrk. Anther fun thing was getting t knw the ther vlunteers! With vlunteers frm all ver the wrld, it was just cmmn t hear Finnish being spken, Australian slang mixed with French expressins and Swedes making plans t visit newly-fund friends in the USA.

25.(10分) Yu can’t see yur sleeping pets brain waves, but its behavir can tell yu when yur cat might be dreaming. If yu watch clsely, yu’ll see that as she falls asleep, her breathing becmes slw and regular with her bdy still. She has entered the first stage f sleep, called slw-wave sleep. After abut 15 minutes yu’ll ntice a change in her breathing. Her eyes mve under her clsed lids, her paws twitch (抽动) and she flicks (尤指用手指或手快速地轻抚) an ear. She has entered dreaming. Althugh she twitches and makes little grunting (嘟嘟) nises, messages frm her brain t the large muscles in her legs are blcked, s she can’t run abut. She is in a state f “sleep paralysis (麻痹)”.
Michel Juvet, a French scientist, interrupted their sleep paralysis. Even thugh they were cmpletely asleep, the dreaming cats began t run fr balls that Juvet culdn’t see and arched (弓起) their backs at unseen enemies. He figures he was watching them act ut their dreams! Obviusly, the dreaming cats seemed t be practising imprtant cat skills: fllwing, puncing (猛扑), and fighting.
In anther study, Matt Wilsn recrded rats brain waves while they learned mazes (迷宫). One day, he left the brain-wave-recrding machine n while the rats fell asleep. The pattern f brain waves in the sleeping rats matched the pattern frm the maze s clsely that Wilsn culd figure ut exactly which part f the maze each rat was dreaming abut!
Many researchers nw think that in bth peple and animals, ne purpse f dreams is t practise imprtant skills and figure ut recent learning. This may explain why s many peple dream abut fighting and escaping, skills that were prbably imprtant t ur ancestrs, and why dreaming affects ur ability t learn.
D all animals dream? Frm lking at the brain waves f sleeping animals. Hw ften animals dream seems t be tied t bdy size. Cats dream abut every 15 minutes, mice every 9 minutes, and elephants every 2 hurs. And thugh cws and hrses usually sleep standing up, they nly dream when lying dwn.

C.The eyes f dreaming cats mved while bdies are still.

B.Learning mazes is the basic skill fr cats t learn.
C.Rats ften dreams t make certain their recent learning

3、Which animal may dream mst frequently?
      A.Rats.B.Dgs.
      C.Cws.D.Elephants
4、Hw des the authr develp his passage?

      C.By telling striesD.By shwing facts
