    Hello English

It covers all the aspects of language learning, including vocabulary, translation, grammar, spellings, spoken and reading skills. HelloTalk

HelloTalk is similar to Lingbe as it connects you with native speakers to help improve your language skills. However, it adds a few extra functions that might interest you. You can view the information about users to find a match that interests you. Additionally, you can also send text and audio messages, and even do video calls with other people.

If you are a beginner, start from Duolingo and then use Hello English to take full command over the language. For fluent spoken English learners, you can try out Lingbe or HelloTalk.

Walk around the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and you may see a green animal named Sluggo and a flying pig named Philomena. You might even see street artist David Zinn drawing them using only sidewalk chalk and charcoal (炭笔).

At the age of 12, David began working as an artist. His dad was writing a computer instruction and worried that it would be boring to read. So he asked David to draw pictures of turtles (the name of the computer program) to explain it. The publisher liked his drawings, and soon David had the job of drawing more turtles in action. “I learned a great lesson, which was that, to make money as an artist, I couldn't always draw what I wanted,” he says. “I had to figure out how to draw a turtle drinking tea and other things like that.”

David worked for 20 years as a commercial artist, but he often felt cooped up (禁锢) sitting at a computer for 10 hours a day. Then, on a sunny afternoon about ten years ago, he brought some chalk and started drawing on the sidewalk. That's when Sluggo came to life.

“One of the reasons I like to put art on the street is to take people by surprise,” he says. “I can have fun drawing, and knowing it will be washed away helps me not think too much. It frees me up.”

It takes David about two hours to complete one drawing. He uses a lot of sidewalk characteristics in his street art. It can be difficult to draw on surfaces that are not flat. He has to notice where shadows(阴影)will land so they won't destroy the 3-D drawings he creates.

Today, more and more people are accepting and looking for his work. David’s artwork can also be found across the country and even throughout the world. Photos of his drawings have been shown at many universities and museums.

    1. What did David learn from drawing turtles for his father?

    A. Work hard.   B. Follow your heart.   C. Draw what you like.   D. Draw in a creative way.

    25. How does David feel when knowing his drawing will be washed away?

    A. Relaxed.        B. Worried.         C. Unhappy.          D. Surprised.

    26. In what way is David's art special?

    A. It shows his real life.

    B. It is drawn on the flat sidewalk.

    C. It needs a very long time to finish a drawing.

    D. It is 3-D street art created by simple painting tools.

    27. What do we know about David's drawings?

    A. They are becoming popular.          B. They are too difficult to understand.

    C. They are found mainly at museums.    D. They are hardly accepted by adults.

    C

I received a private message on Facebook. It began harmlessly enough: “Hey, girl. Wanted to invite you to join my next challenge group—we’ll be focusing on fitting in 30 minutes of exercise and balanced nutrition.”

It was all becoming too much. Facebook was running my life, not me.

But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how many “likes” it had got. His question was a wake-up call.

“Likes” are signs of acceptance and approval. I had forgotten that acceptance and approval need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example.

Before Facebook, surfing the internet was an occasional distraction and I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines. I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls.

To recreate the simplicity of those days and set a healthier example to my son, I deactivated my Facebook account.

I’d been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day, so I had to come up with some new habits. I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me. I rediscovered knitting. I started taking yoga classes.

I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is. I have friends who will help me out when I’m in trouble, and I will help them out. I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy. We are very lucky to be able to afford two vacations a year.

I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone. I felt completely present in the moment.

The break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life.

After a few weeks, I returned to Facebook. Now I look at the photos of my friends’ kids growing up and treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family far and wide. I look in on a daily basis, but no longer with the desire constantly to post updates.

It is not an addiction any more.

28What was the author’s life like before her break from Facebook?

AShe enjoyed reading in her free time. BShe spent much time on social media.

CShe didn’t get along well with her son. DShe didn’t care what others thought of her.

29The underlined word “deactivate” in Paragraph 6 is closest in meaning to “________”.

    Aclose       Bupdate      Ckeep      Dcheck

30What did the author do to change her life?

AShe went to the gym as often as she could. BShe developed some healthy habits.

CShe tried to make money for her holidays. DShe traveled around a lot for a year.

31What is the author’s attitude toward social media?

    ACritical.   BSupportive.   CObjective.  DIndifferent

                                     D

The use of AI (artificial intelligence) is becoming more common in many branches of industry and online shopping. Traditional lines of work, such as goods transport and driving, are developing in a similar direction although mainly out of public view. Scientists at the University of Göttingen have now investigated how efficient (高效的) the use of AI can be in the commercial management of trucks.

“Digital applications—as well as machine learning, a kind of AI—are increasingly applied to operations and courses in the transport area,” explains Professor Matthias Klumpp from the Faculty of Economics. “The question in the commercial area, however, is whether or not this contributes to achieving goals.”

To answer this question, the researchers compared the work efficiency of truck drivers with their main use of AI applications. Looking at trade delivery by truck, they studied three groups: the first drove completely following human decision-making models; the second used a combination of human and machine; and the third depended completely on fully automated decisions.

The researchers found that an intelligent combination of human work and decision-making abilities with AI applications promises the highest transport and driving efficiency. “On average, the second group achieved the most efficient transport trips, with the fewest interventions (干预) and off-course from the best path.” one researcher said, “Clearly, neither a completely human decision-making structure nor a fully automated driving system can promise to meet current goods transport requirements.” The scientists therefore summarized that despite the progress of AI in the field of transportation by truck, human experience and decision-making abilities will still be necessary in the longer term. However, the challenge is that a wide range of training and qualification (资格) needs will come along by working with Al applications, especially for simple goods transport activities.

    32. What does Matthias Klumpp focus on?

    A. The efficiency of AI.      B. The advantages of AI.

    C. The problems caused by AI.    D. The wide applications of AI.

    33. How did the researchers get the finding?

    A. By providing examples.     B. By making comparisons.

    C. By using different trucks.     D. By listing three experiments.

    34. What can we know from the last paragraph?

    A. Al is better at making decisions.

    B. A balance is needed between human and AI.

    C. Human will soon be replaced by AI in driving.

    D. Al applications meet the current requirements.

    35. What is the best title for the text?

    A. The future of transport.

    B. Artificial intelligence as a co-driver.

    C. Artificial intelligence-a better choice in driving.

    D. The strengths of artificial intelligence in transport.
