(2025·新疆维吾尔自治区普通高中第二次适应性检测)Denmark,knwn fr its fantastic fairy tales and elegant design studis,is abut t becme knwn fr smething mre basic: the wrld’s first belch and manure tax(打嗝和粪便税).
That’s because there are five times as many pigs and cws in Denmark as there are peple.Nearly tw-thirds f its land is taken up by farming. And agriculture is becming its largest share f air pllutin, putting lawmakers under intense public pressure t reduce it.
S nw,Denmark’s gvernment has agreed t tax the planet-heating methane (甲烷) emissins that all thse animals expel thrugh their waste prducts,gas-passing and belching. The measure, under negtiatin fr years, was passed by the Danish Parliament in Nvember 2024,making it the nly such climate tax n livestck in the wrld.
“I think it’s gd,” said Rasmus Angelsnes,thirty-ne,wh was shpping fr dinner in Cpenhagen ne recent afternn.“It’s a slight mtivatin t make different chices, maybe mre climate-friendly chices.”
The tax is designed t clean up the cuntry’s agricultural pllutin and eventually restre sme farmland t its natural frm, like peatlands(泥炭地).Denmark’s quest is als part f a reflectin fr many agricultural pwerhuses,as these cuntries face calls t reduce pllutin frm farms.Glbally, the fd system accunts fr 25% f greenhuse gases, and reducing thse emissins requires making tugh chices n diets, jbs and industries.Meanwhile, farmers are victims f the threat f climate change, with heat, drughts and flds wrsened by the burning f fssil fuels, which makes fd an extremely annying climate prblem t take n.
Svend Brdersen is an rganic farmer, which means his ptins are mre limited.“It’s a chance t shw the rest f the wrld that farming desn’t have t mean lts f pllutin,” he said.“Withut a tax, everyne will d the same tmrrw as they did yesterday.”
A bigger and mre difficult dilemma still exists whether Denmark will cntinue t turn ver s much f its land t farm animals.
1.Why did Denmark intrduce the belch and manure tax?
A.T urge peple t eat less meat.
B.T bst the gvernment’s incme.
C.T prmte the develpment f farming.
D.T lessen air pllutin linked t agriculture.
第二段“That’s because there are five times as many pigs and intense public pressure t reduce it”解释了丹麦征收打嗝和粪便税的原因:丹麦的猪和牛的数量是人口的五倍,近三分之二的土地被农业占用。
2.What des the underlined wrd “expel” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Digest.B.Release.
C.Absrb.D.Cnsume.
3.What des Paragraph 5 mainly fcus n?
A.The challenges f farmers.
B.The significance f the tax.
C.The restratin f peatlands.
D.The develpment f fd system.
根据第五段的“The tax is designed t clean up the cuntry’s agricultural pllutin frm farms”可知,丹麦征收打嗝和粪便税的目的是减少农业污染,并逐步将部分农田恢复为自然状态。
4.What d Brdersen’s wrds imply?
A.The tax prmises t benefit the lcal envirnment.
B.The tax can ttally slve air pllutin.
C.The tax will enlarge the rganic fd market.
D.The tax has nthing t d with pllutin.
根据“It’s a chance t shw the rest f the wrld that farming desn’t have t mean lts f pllutin”可知,Brdersen认为这是一个向世界其他地区展示农业不一定意味着大量污染的机会。

This act f kindness is part f a larger charity initiative that began after a majr il spill near Phillip Island,Australia,in the late 1990s.The spill severely affected the lcal penguin ppulatin, leading t a decline in their numbers and health ver the fllwing breeding seasns. When little penguins becme iled, they will try t clean the pisnus il frm their feathers with their beaks (喙),and ingesting it can kill them.It als damages their delicate feathers, which expses their skin t extreme temperatures and they are left cld, heavy and unable t swim r hunt fr fd.
In respnse t such incidents, the Penguin Fundatin and Phillip Island Nature Parks launched a campaign urging knitting enthusiasts wrldwide t knit sweaters fr the affected penguins. These sweaters serve a dual purpse:They prvide temprary warmth and prevent the penguins frm reaching their ily feathers with their beaks. The last significant il spill arund Phillip Island ccurred in 2001,affecting 438 little penguins. With the help f these sweaters,96% f them were successfully rescued and released back int the wild.

6.What des the underlined wrd “ingesting” mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Taking in.B.Feeding n.
C.Breathing in.D.Sweeping away.
根据第二段的“When little penguins becme iled, they will try t clean the pisnus il frm their feathers with their beaks(喙)”可知,当小企鹅被石油污染时,它们会试图用喙清理羽毛上的有毒石油。
