Shuld Sugary Drinks Be Banned (禁止)?
Hw many sugary drinks d yu drink a day? A number f recent studies have warned f the dangers f taking in t much sugar. But just hw bad are these drinks fr us?
The cnsumptin (消耗) f sugary drinks has been steadily increasing. In the 1970s, sugary drinks made up abut 4% f US daily calrie intake; by 2001, that had risen t abut 9%. These days, it’s abut 327 calries a day, which is equal t abut 2. 5 cans f cla, accrding t a study by the US Center fr Disease Cntrl and Preventin. On any given day, half the peple in the US cnsume sugary drinks; 1 in 4 get at least 200 calries frm such drinks; and 5% get at least 567 calries—equivalent t 4 cans f sda. Sugary drinks (sda, energy drinks, sprts drinks) are the tp calrie surce in teens’ diets (226 calries per day), beating ut pizza (213 calries per day).
There’s a lt f evidence that sugary drinks can lead t serius medical cmplicatins, and even death. Research presented at an American Heart Assciatin cnference shwed that 180, 000 deaths wrldwide are linked t sugary drinks.
“A large number f deaths each year are caused by drinking sugary drinks,” said Dr Gitanjali Singh, a pstdctral research fellw at the Harvard Schl f Public Health. His research has linked the intake (摄入) f sugar-sweetened drinks t 133, 000 diabetes deaths, 44, 000 deaths frm cardivascular diseases and 6, 000 cancer deaths. “Our findings shuld push plicy makers wrldwide t make effective plicies t reduce cnsumptin f sugary drinks, such as taxatin, mass-media campaigns, and reducing the availability f these drinks.”
The increase in sugar cnsumptin frm sugary drinks can als lead t besity. In turn, this can lead t diseases such as diabetes, cancer, fatty liver disease, dementia and heart prblems. On tp f that, research shws that carbnated drinks can cause bth dental ersin and tth decay.
In respnse, the USDA has banned snack fds and sugary drinks in schls. The new law (under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act) was passed by Cngress in 2010 with brad bipartisan supprt.
S, surely the lgical thing wuld be t drink smething healthier, such as range juice. Well, apparently that might nt be a gd idea either. Accrding t the American besity expert Rbert Lustig, range juice is just sugar and is therefre, in his view, a “pisn”. Lustig is the authr f Fat Chance: The Bitter Truth abut Sugar. “Calrie fr calrie, 100% range juice is wrse fr yu than sugary sdas,” Lustig says. When yu eat a whle apple, the sugar is “nicely balanced” by the fibre, giving the liver a chance t fully metablise (新陈代谢) what’s cming in. Hwever, when yu dwn half a litre f apple juice, it brings a huge dse f energy straight t the liver.
Of curse, n ne is suggesting yu give up n yur favrite drinks, but as with everything, drink in mderatin (适量). And when in dubt, yu can always try a bit f that transparent stuff that makes up abut 60% f ur bdies: water!

3.【答案】A

22.文章第五段提到:“Once Nah learned abut kids wh needed meals n then jined a grup that spent ne Saturday afternn each mnth delivering ht suppers...” 因此选T meet the kids’ needs。
因此Warm-hearted(热心的)最符合人物形象。
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.D

由第二段第一句“The cnsumptin f sugary drinks has been steadily increasing.”
由倒数第二段前五句“S,surely the lgical thing wuld be t drink smething healthier, such as range juice.Well, apparently that might nt be a gd idea juice is just fr calrie,100%range juice is wrse fr yu than sugary sdas...”
When yu eat a whle apple, the sugar is' nicely balanced' by the fibre, giving the liver a chance t fully metablise what's cming in.Hwever, when yu dwn half a litre f apple juice,it brings a huge dse f energy straight t the liver.”
