A grup f fssilized (化石的) tunnels, dug by animals abut 550 millin years ag and discvered in the upper reaches f the Yangtze River in China, has ffered new insights int hw the earliest animal activities began t shape the seaflr envirnment.
Previus research has shwn that during a key evlutinary perid arund 539 millin years ag, knwn as the Ediacaran-Cambrian (前寒武纪) transitin, animals began t shift frm simply mving acrss the seabed t actively explring deeper layers f depsits. This transitin frm 2D mvement t 3D burrwing (掘穴) turned the cean bttm int a cmplex, animal-engineered habitat, fundamentally changing marine ecsystems.
Nw, a discvery frm Central China’s Hubei prvince indicates that this revlutinary change had started much earlier.
Researchers frm the Nanjing Institute f Gelgy and Palaentlgy f the Chinese Academy f Sciences studied the Shibantan Bita (生物区), a treasure trve f ancient fssils in Hubei dating back apprximately 550 t 543 millin years. They identified several types f burrws made by wrm-like animals, indicating that cmplex animal behavirs were already shaping the seaflr envirnment nearly 10 millin years earlier than previusly thught.
Researchers nted their discvery f Treptichnus streptsus, a new type f fssilized, zig-zag burrw made by an ancient wrm. Lead researcher Chen Zhe tld Xinhua that the zigzag burrws reflect rhythmic mvement, indicating a well-develped nervus system and muscular cntrl, and reveal cmplex animal behavirs predating (早于) the Cambrian explsin.
These active burrwing behavirs brke up seaflr micrbial mats and disrupted habitats fr ther rganisms, ptentially cntributing t the first knwn mass extinctin f the Ediacara bita. While destructive, such disturbances als created new eclgical pprtunities.
The new study cnfirms that this bita ffers a unique windw int ne f the mst imprtant turning pints in the histry f life, namely the transitin frm simple life frms t cmplex ecsystems.
      24. Why des the authr mentin “previus research” in paragraph 2?
      A. T stress the new finding.B. T cmpare expert views.
      C. T shw field prgress.D. T questin ld methds.

      A. A rare fssil f an ancient wrm species.B. Animal burrws shwing cmplex behavirs.
      C. The exact time f the Cambrian explsin.D. A new thery abut mass extinctin causes.
      26. Hw did the burrwing behavir affect the ancient ecsystem?
      A. It helped the Ediacara rganisms t thrive.
      B. It made the seaflr envirnment mre stable.
      C. It prvided mre fd surces fr all marine life.
      D. It destryed existing habitats but created new nes.
      27. What is the main significance f this discvery?
      A. It identifies the ldest knwn animal species.
      B. It prves the surce f the Cambrian explsin.
      C. It rewrites the histry f cmplex animal life.
      D. It fcuses n the study f ancient wrm behavirs.

Traditinal rbts are synthetic machines and are nt cnsidered alive. Yet researchers are nw building “xenbts” frm living frg cells, creating bilgical machines that blur the line between life and nn-life. This wrk cmes frm Prf Jsh Bngard’s lab. As Bngard explains, they are building rbts frm cmpnents that are themselves “intelligent machines.”
In fact, Tauber wuld nt cnsider them “living” at all, precisely because their survival depends n such specific cnditins. Bngard, hwever, believes that xenbts, alng with ther technlgies like bihybrids (生物混合) that cmbine rganic and technlgical cmpnents, are starting t blur this line, reigniting the debate abut what life is.
The xenbts’ behaviur has als sparked ther questins. Fr example, researchers dn’t knw if the xenbts are truly cperating when they push cells and ther bjects arund tgether. Are they able t sense each ther thrugh the millins f receptrs n their cell surfaces, r are they just mindlessly mving arund like wind-up tys?
Anther intriguing questin is whether bilgical rbts culd be made frm human cells. Bngard cnfirms this is n their t-d list. “Yu knw, frg and human cells diverged nt that lng ag in ttal evlutinary histry,” he muses, suggesting it shuld wrk in principle. Xenbts frm human cells wuld have better cmpatibility (兼容性) with medical applicatins, thugh gaining apprval wuld be a lng prcess.
Researchers nw aim t discver what in the frg cells’ bilgy makes them behave as they d, hping t better manipulate (操纵) these living materials. Their AI is figuring this ut but cannt yet cmmunicate its findings. “We’re asking the AI t make machines, but the utcme is that the AI is learning mre abut bilgy,” says Bngard. A key gal is getting the AI t explain what it has learned t “us pr humans.”
      28. What is the fundamental difference in building xenbts?
      A. Designing rbts capable f self-repairing abilities.
      B. Applying metal and plastic fr cmplex structures.
      C. Creating synthetic machines with human-like skills.
      D. Using intelligent bilgical cmpnents fr creatin.
      29. What is Prf Bngard’s attitude tward living rbts like xenbts?
      A. Dubtful.B. Indifferent.C. Hpeful.D. Cautius.
      30. What des the wrd “intriguing” in paragraph 4 prbably mean?
      A. Demanding.B. Fascinating.C. Cmplicated.D. Repeated.
      31. What is the authr likely t discuss in the fllwing paragraph?
      A. The challenges in enabling the AI t explain its learning.
      B. The public receptin and pricing f these bilgical machines.
      C. The technical bstacles in maintaining xenbts’ life functins.
      D. The AI’s specific findings n frg cell bilgical mechanisms.
      D
When yu hear the wrd “uncertainty,” what emtins arise? Fear, anxiety, excitement, r determinatin? As humans, we experience cnflicting needs: part f us needs t feel safe, secure and t have sme rutine, and anther part f us needs variety and pprtunity. Life inevitably brings uncertainty and change — a reality that has been particularly evident in recent years.
Hw des ur brain detect uncertainty? Research reveals that nradrenaline (去甲肾上腺素) plays a central rle in ur respnse t uncertain events. As a neurmdulatr (神经调质), nradrenaline influences whether brain cells receive calming r stimulating signals, thereby regulating ur mental state.
T investigate the rle nradrenaline plays, scientists at MIT cnducted an experiment with mice. The animals were trained t push a lever upn hearing a high-frequency nise, receiving a drink f water as a reward. They als learned that activating the lever during a lw-frequency nise wuld result in an unpleasant puff f air. The researchers then intrduced uncertainty by including a sund f unclear frequency.
The researchers discvered that the lcus ceruleus (蓝斑) — a small brainstem area that mdulates nradrenaline — was essential in detecting uncertainty. When the utcme wasn’t clear, and the reward was a surprise, the release was much larger. Fr example, when a muse received a puff f air instead f the expected reward, the lcus ceruleus sent ut a large burst f nradrenaline. Over time, the mice became less likely t press the lever when rewards were uncertain.
The study cncluded that the brain learns t manage varying uncertainty levels, with the lcus ceruleus playing a fundamental rle. Cmplementary research at University Cllege Lndn identified tw additinal neurmdulatrs invlved: acetylchline (乙酰胆碱) helps us adapt t envirnmental changes, while dpamine mtivates actin during uncertain situatins.
      32. What is the primary functin f nradrenaline?
      A. Enhancing brain sensitivity t stimuli.
      B. Creating emtinal respnses t uncertain events.
      C. Regulating brain signals thrugh chemical release.
      D. Detecting varius frequency sunds frm different surces.
      33. What can be inferred abut mice frm the experiment?
      A. They preferred uncertain rewards t certain nes.
      B. They avided risks after unexpected utcmes.
      C. They culd distinguish all frequency differences.
      D. They gradually learned t ignre the unclear sund.
      34. Hw d neurmdulatrs wrk tgether?
      A. They crdinate adaptatin and actin systems.
      B. They cmpete t cntrl human emtinal states.
      C. They functin independently in separate brain areas.
      D. They mainly wrk during labratry experiments.
      35. Which wuld be the best title fr the text?
      A. Labratry Experiments with Animal Behavir
      B. Chemical Respnses t Envirnmental Changes
      C. Human Emtins in Challenging Situatins
      D. Brain Mechanisms fr Handling Uncertainty

Li Hua std lking at the champinship pster fr the Winter Sprts Festival. Cmpeting in the bbsleigh (大雪橇) event had always been his dream. But seeing his reflectin in the glass, he faced the truth — as a newcmer frm a small village schl, his chances were slim.
Fr the next tw mnths, Li Hua trained relentlessly. While his classmates were still asleep, he was already jgging n the cld track. During lunch breaks, he practiced bbsleigh techniques in the empty gym. One tugh afternn, after falling repeatedly, he sat n the flr, exhausted and discuraged. “Cach,” he asked, “why am I nt imprving faster? I’m giving it my all, but victry feels s far away.”
Cach Wang helped him up. “Li Hua,” he said kindly but firmly, “this gym isn’t just fr building strng bdies. It’s fr building strng character. Gld medals may shine brightly, but they dn’t last frever. What makes a true champin is hw yu play the game — nt just whether yu win. Remember, friendship is mre imprtant than victry. That is the true meaning f sprtsmanship.”
The day f the cmpetitin arrived. The muntain track glistened (闪闪发光) in the mrning sun, and a large crwd had gathered t watch. Amng the athletes, Li Hua nticed Chris — last year’s runner-up frm a prestigius city sprts schl. While preparing their sleds, Chris saw the nervus lk n Li Hua’s face and ffered a warm, friendly smile. “Gd luck!” he said cheerfully.
During the race, Chris’s sled suddenly veered and crashed int the ice wall. A critical part had brken, leaving his sled immbilized (使不动). “My race is ver,” Chris said in disappintment.

      A
根据文章第四段首句“Settle in with ‘Turn It Up,’ a cllectin f Greg Kt’s Tribune articles frm 2000 t 2013.” B项“Turn It Up”与此信息完全一致。故选B。
全文用富有吸引力的语言介绍了每本书的亮点(如“magical seasn”, “cmprehensive cllectin”, “entertaining features”等),并在每本书的描述后或文末明确提供了购买指引(如“G t ”, “Available at ...”, “All ... print bks are available nline”)。 故选A。
      B
A项“T stress the new finding(强调新发现)”准确概括了这一写作目的。故选A。
根据第四段中的“They identified several types f burrws made by wrm-like animals, indicating that cmplex animal behavirs were already shaping the seaflr envirnment nearly 10 millin years earlier than previusly thught.”
根据第六段中的“These active burrwing behavirs brke up seaflr micrbial mats and disrupted habitats fr ther rganisms ... While destructive, such disturbances als created new eclgical pprtunities.” D项“It destryed existing habitats but created new nes”完整且准确地概括了这种双重影响。
文章通篇强调,这一发现将复杂动物行为出现的时间大幅提前,如第三段“this revlutinary change had started much earlier”和第四段“nearly 10 millin years earlier than previusly thught”。
根据第一段中的“Traditinal rbts are synthetic machines and are nt cnsidered alive. Yet researchers are nw building ‘xenbts’ frm living frg cells, creating bilgical machines”和“they are building rbts frm cmpnents that are themselves ‘intelligent machines.’”
C项“Hpeful(充满希望的)”准确反映了Bngard的态度。故选C。
第四段首句提出“Anther intriguing questin is whether bilgical rbts culd be made frm human cells.”。 B项“Fascinating(迷人的)”最符合此意。A项“Demanding(要求高的)”、C项“Cmplicated(复杂的)”、D项“Repeated(重复的)”均无法准确反映该词在上下文中的积极好奇色彩。故选B。
A项“The challenges in enabling the AI t explain its learning(在使AI能够解释其学习方面面临的挑战)”是下文最可能讨论的内容。故选A。
      D
根据第四段中的“when a muse received a puff f air instead f the expected reward, the lcus ceruleus sent ut a large burst f nradrenaline. Over time, the mice became less likely t press the lever when rewards were uncertain”可知,老鼠在经历意外负面结果(如收到空气喷射而非预期奖励)后,去甲肾上腺素大量释放,并逐渐减少在奖励不确定时推杠杆的行为,这表明老鼠在意外结果后学会了避免风险。B项“They avided risks after unexpected utcmes(在意外结果后避免风险)”准确概括了这一推断。故选B。
根据最后一段中的“acetylchline (乙酰胆碱) helps us adapt t envirnmental changes, while dpamine mtivates actin during uncertain situatins”可知,乙酰胆碱帮助适应环境变化,多巴胺在不确定情境中激励行动,这体现了神经调质在适应和行动系统之间的协调作用。A项“They crdinate adaptatin and actin systems(它们协调适应和行动系统)”准确反映了这一合作机制。故选A。
空后以“They arise partly frm ...” B项“These changes result frm several develpments.(这些变化源于若干发展。)”
空后紧接着说“It is up t yu t take the necessary actins ...(取决于你采取必要行动……)”,这是在具体说明责任如何体现。
A项“Hwever, yu can get help.(然而,你可以寻求帮助。)” 故选A。
E项“Therefre, embrace this respnsibility with cnfidence.(因此,请满怀信心地承担起这份责任。)”
read(阅读)、present(呈现)、submit(提交)均不符合借助工具完成考试的具体语境。故选D。
cnclude(得出结论)、cnduct(实施)、cnsist(由…… 故选A。
prblem(问题)、difficulty(困难)、truble(麻烦)虽然都可表困难,但challenge更能体现面对困难时的积极态度。故选B。
acknwledge(承认)、examine(检查)、apprach(接近)均不能准确表达通过观看发现真相的含义。故选A。
intelligent(聪明的)、skilled(有技能的)、talented(有天赋的)不如capable更强调具备做某事的能力。故选B。
efficiently(高效地)与“熟练度”直接相关,形成逻辑呼应。slwly(缓慢地)、carefully(小心地)、beautifully(优美地)均不能体现熟练带来的效率。故选C。
desire(渴望)程度较强,但更侧重于一种“想要得到”的愿望;interest(兴趣)、curisity(好奇)程度较弱,通常不足以支撑如此高强度的长期投入。故选D。
succeed(成功),prgress(进步)、imprve(提高)都不能直接体现卓越的表现水平。故选C。
educate(教育),enrll(招收)、lecture(讲课)不能涵盖提供设施支持的含义。故选B。
include(包含)、create(创造)、prepare(准备)都不能准确表达针对特殊需求进行专业设计的含义。故选D。
navigate(导航,确定路线)特别适合描述视障人士借助辅助工具的行进方式。walk(步行),mve(移动)、travel(旅行)均不符合使用触觉铺路系统指引方向的语境。故选A。
imaginatin(想象)、truth(真相)、belief(信念)均不能与“exceed”形成合理搭配。故选B。
curage(勇气)强调面对危险时的勇敢,cnsistence(一致性)强调稳定不变,preservatin(保存)不符合语境。故选C。
determinatin(决心)是perseverance(坚持不懈)的内在驱动力,两者构成紧密的因果关联:正是因为拥有坚定的决心,才能表现出不懈的坚持。effrt(努力)、cnfidence(自信)、ptimism(乐观)虽然都是积极品质,但不如determinatin能准确概括将障碍转化为机遇的核心驱动力。
分析句子结构,“First launched in 1959”是过去分词短语作状语,其逻辑主语是“China’s Natinal Games”。
主语“China’s Natinal Games”为复数,故填have entered。
“fr the first time”是固定搭配,意为“首次”。故填the。
故填After。
故填that。
故填were。
