Mst f the ther students at Clby were frm big cities: New Yrk, Bstn, Ls Angeles, San Francisc... And when I had cnversatins with these students—in r utside f class—we almst always fcused n tpics facing large American cities. In my educatin classes, it was always “urban this” and “urban that”.
It was like small twn America didn't exist.
And this urban interest desn't just happen in cllege. I went t an educatin cnference a cuple f years ag, and a prfessr—smene wh had been at the frefrnt f educatinal refrm—was there t deliver a keynte. I was chsen t be part f a small grup that gt t meet with him. S there we were, five r six f us sitting in a rm, and I asked him, “What are yur thughts n the state f educatin in the cuntryside?” And this man was speechless.
