表语(Predicative)是指说明主语的身份、性质、品性、特征和状态的词或从句,表语常由名词、形容词、介词短语、动名词、不定式来充当,它常位于系动词(be)之后。如果句子的表语是由一个句子充当的,那么这个充当表语的句子就叫做表语从句。

不定式作表语表示具体动作或将来动作;动名词作表语表示经常发生的常态行为。
What he likes is taking a walk after supper.(经常发生,常态)What I wuld suggest is t put ff the meeting. (将来发生,一次)
T be kind t the enemy(条件) is t be cruel t the peple (结果).T see (条件) is t believe (结果).
当主语和表语都是不定式时,其含义主语是条件,宾语是结果,不可互换位置
当主语是aim, duty, hpe, idea, plan, purpse, suggestin等为中心词的名词词组时,或以what引导的主语从句时,不定式说明主语的内容。

动名词作表语时,表示主语的内容,表语与主语通常是对等的关系,可互换位置。如果句中的主语和表语同为非谓语动词时,要注意保持两个动词在形式上的一致,要么都是动词不定式,要么都是动名词。

动词不定式作表语时, 如果前面的主语中有实义动词d的形式,作表语的动词不定式常省略t。

过去分词作表语表示主语的状态,被动语态表示动作本身。
The library is nw clsed. 图书馆关门了。(过去分词作表语,表示主语的状态)The cup was brken by my little sister yesterday. 茶杯昨天被我小妹打碎了。(被动语态,表示动作本身)The city is surrunded n three sides by muntains. 这座城市三面环山。 (过去分词作表语,表示主语的状态)
interest, bre, wrry, surprise, frighten, amaze, astnish, shck, tire 等半使役类动词通常用其过去分词形式来描述人的状态或感受,用 -ing 形式来描述事物的特征。

动名词作表语与现在进行时的区别,动名词作表语说明主语的职责和功能等,和主语是对等故关系,主语和表语可以互换位置;现在分词表示动作正在进行,主语和谓语动词不可互换位置。
My jb is lking after the baby. (lking after the baby 为表语,说明主语的职责)=Lking after the baby is my jb.He is lking after the baby. (is lking after the baby 是现在进行时,说明动作正在进行)=Lking after the baby is he.
