This weekend I had the pleasure f seeing the Latvian animated film Flw in the theater. I’ d never heard f it, but all f the ther ptins were sequels (续 集 ) r Christmas mvies. Flw had a great trailer (预告片), excellent reviews, and wn many awards.
It is abut the adventures f a black cat, a yellw dg, and several ther animals that band tgether t survive a catastrphic fld. There are n peple in the film. In fact, there is n dialgue at all in the hur and a half.
Yu wuld think that a mvie withut any human characters r dialgue wuld be bring. Well, Flw is anything BUT. On the cntrary, I was ften n the edge f my seat, terrified fr the danger these little guys faced. They’re cnstantly escaping enemies and rising water. Eventually, ur black cat finds himself in a new land. At the start f the mvie he is alne, but by the end he is surrunded by new friends.
What, if anything, des this mvie “mean”? Clearly, ne f the basic themes is unity — different species that initially dn’t get alng eventually learn t help each ther survive. But I think the fact that humans are cmpletely absent seems intentinal. The animals pass thrugh run-dwn, abandned twns, implying that humanity may have been wiped ut by a disaster. Cmbined with the fld, this suggests a metaphr abut climate change and sea level rise. The mvie’s metaphrs are subtle: water is an ever-present symbl in the film, and it is cnstantly flwing frward, pushing the actin and ur characters. With the title literally named Flw, temprariness seems t be the main message: things cnstantly changing, the wrld mves n. We ften can’t cntrl strms f life. What we can cntrl are ur wn actins. Yu can chse t fight the current r g with it and make the best f what yu find dwn river.
Or it culd mean smething else cmpletely different t yu! Like the best pems, this mvie is pen t multiple interpretatins.
      24. What initially mtivated the authr t watch the film Flw?
      A.Recmmendatins frm strangers.
      C.Curisity abut an unknwn mvie.
B.Its psitive receptin and many awards.
      D.Its unique theme cncerning animals.
Which f the fllwing is a distinctive feature f Flw?
It invlves mre than human characters.B.It cntains n spken dialgue.
      C.It is a shrt animatin within 90 minutes.D.It is primarily a Christmas-themed stry.
      26. In the authr’s pinin, what des humans’ absence frm the film imply? A.The lss f humanity.B.The difficulty f survival.
      C.The unpredictability f life.D.The unity f diverse species.
      27. Where is the text prbably frm?
      A.A textbk n animatin. C.An editrial n glbal warming.
      B.An ec-tur jurnal.
      D.An entertainment website.
      C
Researchers at the University f Padua in Italy have traced the rigins f ne f Venice’
s mst lng-lasting signs: the brnze winged lin that stands n the tp f a clumn in St Mark’ s Square. Lng believed t be a Venetian creatin, the sculpture is determined t cme frm the Yangzi River basin in China.
The lin systematically reflects Chinese artistic traditins. Fr example, the psitin f its paws matches that f ancient Chinese lin guardians, riginally fierce prtectrs f tmbs. Researchers prpse that Marc Pl may have acquired the sculpture, a gift frm the Yuan Dynasty emperr, and later brught it back t Venice. A Chinese burial guardian thus became a silent witness t the vast cultural exchanges.
In China, the lin hlds an imprtant symblic rle even thugh the animals have never lived there in the wild. Frm palaces t the gates f private hmes and even mdern banks, pairs f stne lins still stand guard.
Real lins began arriving in China via the Silk Rad, sent as freign fferings frm Central Asian states t emperrs f the Han Dynasty. By the Tang Dynasty, lins were already features f the cultural imaginatin. Over the centuries, their style evlved: Tang figures ften walk energetically, Sng examples sften int playful scenes, while later lins sit lw in calm dignity. large and cmpletely still.
The lin’s influence als extended int ppular culture. The lin dance cmbined martial arts, acrbatics (杂 技 ) and drama int a brilliant perfrmance. Perfrmed at public celebratins, the dance represented strength, luck and the driving away f evil spirits. Tday, it remains a belved festive event acrss China and thrughut verseas Chinese cmmunities. Frm freign gift animal t sacred guardian, frm sculpted icn t dynamic
perfrmer, the lin in China reflects a unique blend f flk inspiratin and artistic imaginatin.
In Italy, the brnze lin still gazes ver Venice, standing as a reminder f the glbal netwrks linking East Asia and Eurpe lng befre the mdern age, and f hw symbls travel, transfrm and last acrss civilizatins.
What is the researchers’ discvery abut the brnze lin?
A.It riginated in China.B.It was made by Venetians. C.It std as Venice’s symbl.D.It was bught by Marc Pl.
What is paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A.Lins’ rigin and traditinal rle.B.Lins’ images and histric significance. C.Lins’ spread and cultural influence.D.Lins’ intrductin and stylistic evlutin.
What is the lin dance viewed as tday?
A.A memrial ceremny.B.A frm f martial arts training.
      C.A traditinal celebratin.
      D.An intercultural cllabratin.
What can we learn frm the brnze lin’s existence in Italy?
Venice served as an ancient trade center.
The brnze lin symblized Venice’s histry.
Ancient China exprted lin statues widely.
Cultural exchanges existed earlier than assumed.

Using artificial intelligence t create artwrks increases artists’ prductivity and generates mre psitive reactins, accrding t a study invlving submissins t a ppular art-sharing website by mre than 50,000 users. But generative AI wrks are mre likely t display steretypical themes, reducing the nvelty f an artist’s wrk.
The researchers tracked 4 millin wrks published n the website by the artists. The artists self-divided int tw grups: thse wh cntinued t wrk using traditinal methds — a srt f cntrl grup, and thse wh adpted AI. The latter grup, numbering abut 5,800, were identified by the use f tags (标签) n their wrk, such as “AI-generated” r the names f the AI tls. Wrks psted int AI art cmmunities n the site were als included.
Artists wh adpted AI tls saw their prductivity measured by the number f wrks psted increase by 25 percent ver the study perid. They als saw a 50 percent rise in the number f “favurites” their wrk received ver six mnths. But nvelty, measured by the subject matter and specific details f the wrk, decreased fr the AI-using grup.
“The study cmpletely tracks with my wn experience with these tls and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University f Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that yu culd d anything, bring anything in yur head int existence, but the mre I used them, the mre I kept cming back t themes I liked.”
Guadamuz pints ut that he isn’t judging the quality f the images prduced by generative AI nr their riginality, nr the creativity invlved in the prcess. All these things are ften htly cntested, with sme artists saying that generative AI is using their wrks as training data and limiting their ability t be recgnized as creatives.
      32. What d we knw abut the artwrks created by AI accrding t paragraph 1? A.They are abundant but less creative.B.They are generative but less ppular.
C.They balance ppularity with artistic depth. D.They attract viewers with the trendy subjects.
      33. Hw was the study cnducted?
Zhu at Bstn University is als cnsidering these questins. He says, “The generative technlgy accelerates the ability t prduce. But it raises ther issues: Are we freging the prcess f understanding what ges int being creative and prducing smething meaningful, in favur f just being able t frce ur way with technlgy?”
By surveying artists’ pinins n AI tls using.
By analyzing suggestins n generative AI wrks.
By cmparing artwrks with different AI invlvement.
By bserving the prcess f AI-assisted artistic creatin.
      34. What can be inferred frm Guadamuz’s statement? A.AI tls help artists explre new creative styles. B.AI users receive mre recgnitin fr their creativity.
C.Artists believe AI imprves the quality f their artwrks.
D.Artists may repeat themes they like when using AI tls.
      35. What is the best title fr the text?
A.The Unstppable Rise f AI Artwrks. B.The Duble-Edged Swrd f AI in Artwrks. C.The Rle f AI in Artistic Prductivity. D.The Breakthrugh f AI in Artistic Creatin.

Illeism: The Ancient Trick t Help Yu Think Mre Wisely
As a writer specialising in psychlgy, I’ve cme acrss hundreds f evidence-based tips fr better thinking. Few have prven as useful t me as the ancient strategy f illeism.
Put simply, illeism is the practice f talking abut neself in the third persn rather than the first persn. 36 In the emperr Julius Caesar’s accunt f the Gallic War, fr example, he wrte “Caesar avenged the public” rather than “I avenged the public”.
T the mdern ear, illeism can sund a little silly r self-imprtant. 37 If we are trying t make a difficult decisin, speaking abut urselves in the third persn can help t reduce the emtins that culd lead ur thinking ff track, allwing us t find a wiser slutin t ur prblem.
38 This is because when making persnal chices, we becme t caught up in ur emtins, which clud ur thinking and prevent us frm putting ur issues in perspective. If we have received negative feedback frm a clleague, fr example, ur feeling f embarrassment might lead us t becme verly self-defensive.
By switching t the third persn, ur descriptins f the situatin will start t sund as if
we are talking abut smene else rather than urselves. 39 By encuraging us t put ur prblems in perspective, the use f illeism may als help us t have a mre balanced respnse t daily stresses.
Next time yu face a challenging situatin, try referring t yurself as “he” r “she” instead f “I”. 40
A.Try this technique. B.Pliticians ften use this methd.
C.This creates helpful distance frm emtins.
D.S why d emtins affect ur decisins s much?
E.Yet research shws illeism brings real thinking benefits. F.Hwever, lack f bjectivity can be prblematic when chsing. G.Yu might be surprised at hw much clearer yur thinking becmes.

I still remember the day I bught my “nice” ntebk. It was a leather-bund jurnal with cream-clred pages. I was sure it wuld make me the type f persn wh jurnals regularly, and wh 41 beautiful thughts. But it didn’t wrk.
That grgeus ntebk sat 42 fr mnths. When I finally pened it, I hesitated. The pages felt t delicate and t 43 t waste n my messy handwriting and ideas. S I 44 it. Instead, I grabbed an ld, ugly cmpsitin ntebk with a 45 cver and dg-eared crners. I started t 46 it with everything: mrning pages, randm thughts and reminders. This is surprisingly 47 . I actually wrte. Every day. Withut exceptin.
The psychlgy is real. When we 48 smething t much, we place limits arund it, feeling it is “t gd”. But the ugly ntebk carries n such 49 . It has been used. It tells me, “This is a 50 fr thinking and living, nt a museum piece.”
Here’s the thing: 51 ntebks are idea incubatrs (孵化器) . With the pressure
ff, yu experiment mre. Yu try things that might 52 . And in that freedm, bad ideas I was 53 embarrassed abut gradually evlved int wrk I’m prud f. And that’s where the real wrk f creatin happens.
The best ntebk is never the mst beautiful ne. It’s the ne yu’ll actually 54 .
Because the magic happens in the 55, nt in perfect pages.
      Yur ugly ntebk is waiting.

The next day during break, Asher saw the same kids pulling leaves just like befre. His heart beat fast and a wave f fear washed ver him again. Hwever, Grandpa’s wrds eched firmly in his mind. Taking a deep breath, he walked bravely twards the grup. Instead f speaking sharply, he wre a gentle smile and tld them hw leaves feed the ak tree and help it grw tall and strng. He added that breaking its branches and picking leaves wuld slwly hurt the tree and stp it frm thriving. He was nervus, but he kept speaking sincerely.
The kids sn agreed t Asher’s suggestin. They immediately stpped tearing leaves and walked ver t the ak tree t check its brken branches. They felt ashamed f their silly behavir and aplgized sincerely. T make up fr their mistake, they cleared weeds arund the tree and prmised t lk after it every break. Watching the lively grup guard the tree tgether, Asher was filled with pride. He finally realized true curage desn’t mean having n fear, but standing up fr what’s right. One small brave vice can truly bring psitive changes.
