Guglielmo Marconi was the inventor of radio. In the 1890s, he began to study sending signals without wires. At that time, most people thought his idea was impossible, but he never gave up.
In 1901, Marconi made history. He sent a radio message across the Atlantic Ocean successfully. Before radio, news traveled very slowly by ships or trains. After radio was invented, information could reach every corner of the world in minutes.

Sticky notes are everywhere on desks, fridges and books. Few people know they were invented by accident.
In 1968, scientist Spencer Silver invented a kind of weak glue. It could stick paper but was easy to take off. At first, no one found a use for this glue. Four years later, his workmate Arthur Fry met a problem: his paper bookmarks always fell out of song books.
Suddenly he thought of Silver’s weak glue. He put small pieces of paper with the glue inside the book. The paper could stay in place and be taken away without leaving marks. That was the first sticky note.
Later the company produced different sizes and colors of sticky notes. They became popular all over the world. An accidental weak glue finally turned into a daily invention.

Ancient China had lots of world-famous inventions besides papermaking. The compass is one of them.
In ancient times, people found a special stone that pointed south and north. Later ancient Chinese made the first simple compass. It was widely used for ships to find directions at sea. Without it, ancient ships could not travel far away from the land.
