第二部分 阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)Abut 15 years ag, I taught A Prblem frm Hell, a bk n gencides (大屠杀), t a grup f 18- and 19-year-lds in a mid-west university in the US. In my class there was a yung man wh had spent his byhd in Bsnia as NATO bmbed his hmetwn. My ther students, amazed by his cnnectin t the gencide in the textbk, asked him what it was like t grw up in a war-zne. “A pretty nrmal childhd as yu had here,” he said. “We played cards inside a lt, and when there was n bmbing we kicked a ball in the street.”
In the past few years, the wrld has seen a rapid increase in refugees (难民), with the number hitting 60 millin. Viet Thanh Nguyen’s stry cllectin The Refugees reminds us that literature is news that stays news. Set in the Vietnamese cmmunities in Califrnia as well as in Vietnam, the stries d nt aim t surprise us with new twists r shck us with wnderful details, as war and refugee stries culd easily chse t d. Rather, like the yung man frm Bsnia, Nguyen’s characters tell these stries because they are the nly nes knwn t them.
Included in the cllectin are tw f the mst tuching pieces, bth abut siblings (兄弟或姊妹) separated by gegraphy and histry. In “Black-Eyed Wmen”, the narratr (讲述人), a yung Vietnamese wman, is visited by the ghst f her elder brther, wh died yung n the bat when the family tk flight frm the war. The tale f lve and lss, vilence and vilatin, may nt be unfamiliar t the reader, but the determinatin f the brther’s ghst (he has taken decades t swim acrss the Pacific t reach America) and the sister’s abandning herself t a half death make the stry lasting.
As an ech, the clsing stry, “Fatherland”, explres a mre cmplex situatin between tw siblings. The narratr, a yung Vietnamese wman, meets her half-sister, visiting frm the US fr the first time. Adding t the tensin is the fact that her father has named the narratr and her siblings after his first set f children. Tw sisters, ne American and ne Vietnamese, yet named the same by the father – it may sund strange, but isn’t it the fate many refugees have t face: a life left behind, that culd have been theirs; and a life in an adpted cuntry.
The theme f dubleness – chice and inevitability (不可避免性), hme and hmelessness, starting afresh and being stuck – is present nt nly in the stries f Vietnamese refugees, but als f thse wh have becme refugees frm their wn hmes and lved nes. “Smiling at yur relatives never gt yu very far, but smiling at strangers and acquaintances smetimes did.” S a pilt, wh fught in the Vietnam war and is nw revisiting the cuntry fr the first time, thinks while waving at the lcals frm a tur bus. He’s distant frm his daughter, just as a Mexican American in the cllectin is distant frm his wife, r a yung man frm Hng Kng is distant frm his father.
The cllectin is full f refugees, whether frm external r frm a deeper, mre internal cnflict between even thse wh are clsest t each ther. With anger but nt despair, with recnciliatin (和解) but nt unrealistic hpe, and with genuine humur that is nt used t insult anyne, Nguyen has breathed life int many unfrgettable characters.

22.(8分) If 62 is the number in red n the tp f yur math test, fr mst f us, it's a ttal disaster. Yur entire week is ruined, and 62 is what races thrugh yur head fr the rest f the day. If 9 is the number f likes n that cute pht yu psted the ther day, many will feel rather disappinted.
Our lives have becme a cnstant system f ranks, assessments, and numbers. The days f passing judgment n thers based n persnality are gne, and nw we judge based n hw gd a persn's numbers are. We cmpare urselves t the numbers f thers, such as hw lw anther persn's weight is hw high their paycheck. Self-wrth is n lnger based n quality f character, but quantity f numbers.
In tday's scial media cnsumed sciety,it has never been easier fr peple t bradcast their numbers t the wrld.A simple click f a buttn can take yu t a page where yu can bserve the number f friends r fllwers a persn has. Teenagers have taken n this mentality that if yu dn't have a certain number f fllwers, then yu aren't“cl”. Many feel they are nt imprtant if very few peple are witnessing their status updates. This state f mind is harmful and nt at all accurate.Twitter and Facebk can let the wrld witness yur updates, but they will never let anyne see wh yu really are. In the end.self-wrth shuld be based n what yu think f yurself, nt what the wrld thinks f yu.
S next time yu receive a failing grade r yu lse a fllwer, remember that these things cannt and shuld nt define(定义)yu. Yu are nt yur numbers. Yu are a persn-a3-D living and breathing persn with ideas and creativity and lve that the rigidity f numbers cannt represent. Yu are the things yu lve and the things yu laugh at and the way yu treat thers.

23.(8分) My friend, Jack, was a taxi driver. We became friends quite by accident. Five years ag, I made a trip t Chicag. The mment I stepped int a cab, I realized it was different. The flr was cvered with a rug (小地毯). There were small reprductins f paintings by Van Ggh inside the cab. And the windws were sptless. I tld the driver I had never ridden in a mre attractive taxi.
“I like t hear my passengers say that,” he replied. “Hw lng have yu been decrating yur cab?” I asked. “It’s nt mine,” he said. “It’s a cmpany cab. I hit upn the idea years ag when I wrked as a clean-up man fr the taxi cmpany. Each car that came in at the end f the day was like a garbage pit. Cigarette butts and matches cvered the flr. Sticky stuff like peanut butter was n the seats r dr handles. I thught that if the cmpany and the drivers wuld give peple a car wrth keeping clean, they might be mre cnsiderate. ”
“As sn as I gt my taxi license, I tried ut my ideas. I put a lt f extra decratins int the cab they gave me t drive. I gt a nice rug and sme flwers. When each passenger gt ut, I checked t make sure that everything was in rder fr the next fare. After abut a mnth f my bringing in a sptless cab, the bss reserved the same car fr me each day. That was when I put up the reprductins f great paintings.”
“I’ve never been disappinted by peple in the past ten years—n garbage. Like I say, peple appreciate beautiful things. If we planted mre flwers and trees in the city and made the buildings mre attractive, mre peple wuld tend t keep the city clean.”
Later, we became gd friends. I was impressed by the taxi-driver, wh had hit n a great truth—a sense f beauty cmes with the gift f life. Mst peple dn’t have t be instructed abut the rarity f beauty. They respnd when they find it. And, if they are made t feel a part f it, they will try t add t it.

24.(8分) That cmpetitin keeps prices dwn is well knwn. But it is hard t measure by just hw much, because prices vary fr all srts f reasns, frm differences in labur csts and rents t taxes. Rising t the challenge is a new paper in The Ecnmic Jurnal by Giacm Calzlari, Andrea Ichin, Francesc Manaresi and Viki Nellas, ecnmists at the Eurpean University Institute, Blgna University and the Italian central bank. They lked at pharmacies(药房) and specifically at custmers wh may be particularly easy t rip ff: new parents.
Using data fr 2007 t 2010 cvering abut a fifth f pharmacies in Italy, the researchers measured the way in which prices f hygiene prducts fr babies changed as the number f babies varied. They tk advantage f a peculiar law frm the 1960s, accrding t which regins with at mst 7,500 peple are allwed just ne pharmacy (suppsedly t keep the quality f services high). They cmpared prices in places with ppulatins just belw this threshld, and just abve.
The prducts studied included sme 3,000 varieties f shamps, bath fams, baby wipes, creams and s n. Many are als used by adults n themselves. Sme peple, fr example, prefer sun-cream labeled “fr children” because f its high level f prtectin. When raising prices fr these prducts, even a pharmacist with a mnply(垄断) must cnsider the risk that adult users will switch t prducts that are nt aimed at children. But a rise in the number f babies, and hence buyers wh are parents, culd tip the scales twards price increases. By cntrast, the pharmacist shuld already be charging as much as parents are willing t pay fr prducts withut adult users, such as nappies.
The schlars fund that pharmacists raised prices when there were mre new parents----but nly in regins with a single pharmacy, and nt fr nappies. In mnply areas a dubling f the number f babies frm ne mnth t the next (nt unusual in a small ppulatin) cincided with a 5% increase in the price f the basket f baby-hygiene prducts.
The study is timely. Italy’s gvernment has started t lsen sme f the many restrictins that stp cmpetitin in the pharmacy sectr (thugh nt yet the ne that the researchers relied n). But such regulatins are plentiful in many ther lines f business, and nt just in Italy. The cnsumers wh pay the price are ften thse wh find it hardest t travel t shp arund----fr example, peple with crying babies n their hands.
1、What’s the purpse f the study?
A.T review the functin f the special law fr pharmacies.
B.T make clear the relatin between cmpetitin and prices.
C.T cllect the infrmatin n pharmacy business in Italy.
D.T gather the data n hygiene prducts fr babies in Italy.
2、“tip the scales” in Paragraph 3 means “_____”.
A.Push the mveB.Keep the level
C.Cntrl the riseD.Break the balance
3、The gvernment’s new measures will greatly benefit _____.
A.pharmacy wnersB.lcal merchants
C.new parentsD.adult users
