2.被动语态的基本功能,如提高语篇连贯性、在句子中合理安排重要信息的位置等。

1. 正确理解被动语态在不同情境和语体中的功能。
2. 将被动语态准确、恰当地运用到写作中。
教学过程
1. Recap f the reading text
① Ss recall the reading text Satisfactin Guaranteed, and answer the questins: Whse satisfactin was guaranteed in the stry? Why?
(Claire’s satisfactin was guaranteed by Tny, a husehld rbt. Claire was taken gd care f by Tny, bth physically and emtinally.)
② Ss identify the grammatical structure used in the tw answers and state its basic functin.
(The passive vice; it helps t fcus n the receiver f the actin.)
2. Identify the functins
① Ss read the instructin manual f Tny and identify the first functin f the passive vice: t avid mentining the perfrmer when the perfrmer is nt imprtant r nt mentined.
② Ss find the sentences that shws Claire’s changing emtins twards Tny, and analyze the secnd functin f the passive vice thrugh these sentences: t highlight the perfrmer and therefre build up emtins.
Then, Ss practice using the passive vice in their wn sentences t highlight the perfrmer.
③ Ss find the sentence that shws Claire’s respnse when the saleswman was rude t her. Then, Ss cmpare the active and passive frmatins f the sentence and identify the third functin f the passive vice: t achieve chesin.
Then, Ss use the passive vice t rewrite a sentence s as t make it mre chesive.
3. Review f the frm
Ss recall and wrk ut the basic frms f the passive vice based n the afre-mentined sentences and use a table t categrize them.
4. Practice n the frm & functins
① Ss watch a shrt clip frm the mvie Rbt Dreams, and discuss with their partners what happened t the rbt.
(Rbt was rdered and carefully assembled by Dg, and was treated as a real friend.)
② Ss listen t the news reprt and take ntes n what happened t Rbt.
(Rbt was fund rusted and brken, it has been abandned, n entry is allwed t the beach, it’s hped that Rbt will be rescued sn)
Then, Ss discuss why the passive vice is used s frequently, and gain a deeper understanding f Functin 1: t avid mentining the perfrmer.
(the perfrmer is nt mentined/ nt imprtant, the passive vice makes the news reprt mre bjective and clear)
③ Ss use the passive vice t describe the picture f Dg searching fr Rbt, and gain a deeper understanding f Functin 2: t highlight the perfrmer s as t build up emtins
(The whle beach was being searched by the heart-brken Dg. Dzens f hles had been dug by desperate Dg, but Rbt was nwhere t be seen.)
④ Ss use the passive vice t rewrite the paragraph prvided by T, and gain a deeper understanding f Functin 3: t achieve chesin.
5. Apply what yu have learnt
① Ss use what they have learnt t cntinue the stry f Rbt.
② Ss use the checklist t cmment n their peer’s writing:
③ Ss discuss the questin in grups f fur: Hw shuld rbts be treated by us humans?
(Rbts shuld nt be treated as mere tls r bjects t be explited. Just as animals are treated with cmpassin, rbts shuld als be treated with respect and dignity.)

Finish the exercise n the textbk (page 5) t cnslidate what yu have leant;
(Optinal) Read ne f the science fictin n the right side, and think abut the relatinship between humans and rbts.
