“What have I gtten myself int?” I wndered as I sat thrugh a research meeting
cnducted entirely in Plish, unable t even read the title n the screen. Having nly basic Plish language skills, I fund my experiment in crss-cultural cperatin mre challenging than I had expected.
The idea f spending time abrad hadn’t ccurred t me until my advisr suggested it
during my first year. With his supprt, I enjyed a remarkable summer in a labratry in Japan,
which left me wanting mre. S, I applied fr a Fulbright fellwship in Pland. T receive the
fellwship, I first had t find a lab t hst me, and neither I nr my advisr had any cnnectins t Pland.
Relying n Ggle t translate lab websites, I began t send cld emails. When my
eventual hst respnded, eager t cllabrate, I was thrilled. I suddenly felt the pssibilities fr my research career were endless and glbal.
I was the first visiting schlar my research grup had hsted frm the United States, and my Plish clleagues were curius abut what brught me t their cuntry. This led t many fruitful
discussins abut the similarities and differences in hw science is cnducted acrss cultures. Fr example, much f the funding in Pland is awarded t teams rather than individuals. The system prmtes crss-disciplinary (跨学科的) cperatins acrss the cuntry, which in turn shapes
hw scientists design and carry ut studies.
I learned as much abut the histry and culture in Central and Eastern Eurpe as I did
scientifically. Clleagues related firsthand accunts abut challenges the regin faced during the Cld War. Many labratries had limited resurces, and they rarely published their research in English. Thse cnditins helped shape research n antimicrbial treatment int bacteriphage
and antibitics, and Pland remain leaders in the frmer t this day.
My cultural immersin made me a better researcher. I nw see crss-cultural cperatins as a way t vercme cmmunicatin barriers that can blck prgress in science. By stepping
utside my cmfrt zne, I gained the cnfidence t navigate my research in new directins that I might have therwise bxed myself ut f.
24 .Why did the authr apply fr fellwship in Pland?
      A .T fllw the advisr’s suggestin.
B .T practice Plish and learn its culture.
C .T have anther rewarding experience.
D .T cntinue the research started in Japan.
25 .Hw did the authr benefit frm the experience in Plland?
A .He became an expert in Cld War histry.
      B .He had access t crss-disciplinary cperatins.
C .He btained scientific knwledge and a glbal perspective.
D .He secured individual funding fr future research prjects.
26 .Which wrds best describe the authr?
      A .Helpful and determined.
      B .Cautius and innvative.
      C .Curius and cmpetitive.
      D .Adventurus and inquisitive.
27 .What des the authr imply abut crss-cultural cperatins?
A .They are essential fr the advancement f science.
B .They might bx researchers ut f a certain directin.
C .They shuld priritize language training ver research.
D .They are valueless fr creative minds in scientific field.

What if windws culd clean themselves at the push f a switch? Researchers in China have develped a self-cleaning glass that can remve particles (微粒) within secnds.
Dust is everywhere and always finds a way t settle nt surfaces, n matter hw many
times yu clean them. Gelgical and bilgical surces alng with human-caused surces, like cnstructin and mining, create surface particle pllutin that can ften reduce the visibility f windws and the perfrmance f slar cells by blcking the light-receiving cmpnents.
Nature has great examples f self-cleaning surfaces like flwers and insect wings, where
their specific surface and water wrk tgether t remve dust. Scientists have used these
prperties f bilgical materials t create self-cleaning surfaces but their effectiveness relies n
the availability f water, making it dependent n weather cnditins like humidity (湿度). This
dependency severely affects their applicatin in waterless envirnments n Earth r in uter space.
The new glass ffers a water-free slutin. By studying hw particle size and electric field strength affect this mtin, the researchers created a thin, transparent (透明的) glass —just
0.62mm thick — that can clean itself at 97.5% efficiency withut any human assistance.
The self-cleaning glass als helps prevent new dust frm settling. The researchers fund
that when the electric field is n, it redirects charged particles in the air, keeping the surface
cleaner fr lnger. The team has termed it the “particle shielding effect”, which cuts the buildup f atmspheric dust by almst 90 percent. Because the glass is transparent, it wrks well in places
where clear light is imprtant. It nly slightly reduces visible light, with mst f the lss
happening in nn-visible wavelengths. This makes the system ideal fr slar panels, car
windshields, greenhuse rfs, and windws f tall buildings — places where clear visibility and energy efficiency are essential.
The new design is viable. The glass uses cmmn materials, and its prductin prcess — which invlves applying a cnductive layer nt a glass sheet and then cvering it with a thin
prtective film — fits well with current industrial methds. This means it can be prduced easily and in large amunts withut needing expensive r specialized equipment.
28 .What pint d the facts in paragraph 2 mainly indicate?
A .The cnsequences f industrial activities. B .The primary surces f air pllutin.
C .The wrsening f climate change. D .The widespread impact f dust.
29 .What is the prblem with the nature-inspired cleaning apprach?
A .Its dependence n humans. B .Its high cst f prductin.
C .Its limited applicability. D .Its lw efficiency in cleaning.
30 .Hw des the “particle shielding effect” benefit users?
A .By supplying a surce f renewable energy. B .By keeping the glass cntinuusly dust-free.
C .By strengthening the glass structure. D .By making dust invisible under light.
31 .Which f the fllwing is the clsest in meaning t the underlined wrd “viable” in the last paragraph?
      A.Envirnment friendly. B.User-friendly. C.Practical. D.Efficient.
      D
Educatrs and business leaders have mre in cmmn than it may seem. Teachers want t prepare students fr a successful future. Technlgy cmpanies have an interest in develping a
wrkfrce with the STEM (science, technlgy, engineering and math) skills needed t grw the cmpany and advance the industry. Hw can they wrk tgether t achieve these gals? Play may be the answer.
Fcusing n STEM skills is imprtant, but the reality is that STEM skills are enhanced and mre relevant when cmbined with traditinal, hands-n creative activities. This cmbinatin is prving t be the best way t prepare tday’s children t be the makers and builders f tmrrw. That is why technlgy cmpanies are partnering with educatrs t bring back gd,
      ld-fashined play.
In fact, many experts argue that the mst imprtant 21st-century skills aren’t related t
specific technlgies r subject matter, but t creative skills like imaginatin, prblem-finding and prblem--slving, teamwrk, ptimism, patience and the ability t experiment and take risks.
These are skills acquired when kids tinker (小修理). High-tech industries such as NASA’s Jet
Prpulsin Labratry have fund that their best verall prblem slvers were master tinkerers in their yuth.
There are cgnitive benefits f ding things the way we did as children — building
smething, tearing it dwn, then building it up again. Research shws that given 15 minutes f
free play, fur- and five-year-lds will spend a third f this time engaged in spatial, mathematical, and architectural activities. This type f play, especially with building blcks, helps children
discver and develp key principles in math and gemetry.
If play and building are critical t 21st-century skill develpment, that’s really gd news fr tw reasns: Children are brn builders, makers, and creatrs, s fstering 21st-century skills
may be as simple as giving kids rm t play, tinker, and try things ut, even as they grw lder. Secndly, it desn’t take 21st-century technlgy t fster 21st-century skills. This is especially
imprtant fr under-resurced schls and cmmunities. Taking whatever materials are handy and tinkering with them is a simple way t engage thse imprtant “maker” skills. And anyne,
      anywhere, can d it.
32 .Why d technlgy cmpanies supprt traditinal play in educatin?
A .T fllw NASA’s example in training. B .T prepare future tech wrkfrce.
C .T better develp STEM skills. D .T cmbine STEM with hands-n activities.
33 .What are the benefits f children tinkering with things?
A .Using mdern technlgy. B .Mastering math and gemetry.
C .Gaining all-rund STEM expertise. D .Develping creativity and related skills.
34 .What des the last paragraph suggest t educatrs?
A .Children’s age plays a rle in skill frmatin.
B .Resurces are imprtant fr children’s develpment.
C .Children shuld be given space t experiment freely.
D .Children’s natural talents make skill develpment easy.
35 .Which is the mst suitable title fr the text?
A .Play: A Key t Develping Future Skills
B .Tech Cmpanies: Investing in Future Talent
C .Tinkering: A Path t Becming Prblem Slvers
D .STEM Educatin: The Key t Children’s Future Success

One early mrning, as I walked arund the blck, a friend’s “hi” frm my phne nearly
stpped me in my tracks. 36 She talked me thrugh a life update frm the ppsite side f the cuntry. It felt like the surprise f an unexpected letter because we nrmally didn’t
      cmmunicate that way.
At the time, I nly sent vice messages ccasinally. Stage fright wuld kick in. I wrried
that I’d say the wrng thing, r that thers wuld experience the same cringe (局促不安) upn hearing my vice that I d. 37
But recently, I’ve fund myself recalling hw my friend’s vice brke thrugh
lneliness.Particularly during a seasn that’s suppsed t be all abut lve, I think abut all the
ways that can lk-specifically, hw we reach ut and cnnect. As I’ve sent mre randm vice messages t lved nes, it’s becme bvius hw much I was lnging fr this pint f cnnectin with them. 38 There’s a level f clseness that cmes with this kind f listening.
39 It allws yu t take yur time and speak withut the pressure f an immediate respnse. Yu can fill it with laughter, pauses, and tne that a text message can’t cnvey. It’s a
small act f presence, a way t say, “I’m thinking f yu, and I want t cnnect in a way that feels human.”
In a wrld where s much f ur cmmunicatin is quick, instrumental, and screen-based, vice messages are a rebellin (反抗). They’re a chice t be unplished, t be real, and t invest time in smene else. 40 It’sjust a friend’s “hi” in yur pcket, waiting fr yu t hit play.
A .In fact, I’m a late adpter f vice messaging.
B .I find cmfrt in their vices even if I can’t see their faces.
C .It was the first vice message I remember clicking play n.
D .When we reach ut, we can better understand thers’ difficulties.
E .Smetimes, cnnectin desn’t have t be grand t be meaningful.
F .I think better in writing, I’d tell myself, hlding n t my text messages.
G .A vice message is a cnscius chice fr thughtful, heartfelt cnnectin.

By mid-mrning n a typical wrking day, Dradul will be circling the lake n his
mtrcycle, cvering a rute stretching nearly 10 kilmeters. In his bag are binculars fr bserving waterbirds, a ntebk fr recrding wildlife species and , and garbage
bags fr cllecting litter. He als carries what he calls his “life-saving ” — fd, water, and tls fr animal rescues.
Mapam Yumc Lake, knwn as the “Mther f Rivers,” the headwaters f fur majr Asian rivers, sustaining life far beynd the Himalayas. The guardians’ tasks may seem
      — patrlling (巡逻), recrding, respnding t threats — but in this delicate ecsystem, even small actins carry weight.
Last year, they rescued an eagle with a brken wing, nursing it back t . This
July, they sptted a wild Yak trapped in a mudflat, and they pulled it t safety. Beynd rescues, much f a guardian’s wrk invlves preventing littering everywhere. Thanks t their effrts, the wetland’s has steadily imprved.
Yet the wrk isn’t easy. Climate change pses the biggest , changing shrelines and damaging grassland. Besides, while mst visitrs the rules, sme litter r even

I never imagined that a single piece f paper culd change my entire perspective n life. I was a librarian, a jb that had defined my existence fr ver tw decades. My days were spent
amng the quiet rws f bks. I knew every crner f the library, every title n the shelves, and yet, I felt as if my wn life was missing a chapter.
It was a typical Tuesday mrning. I was srting thrugh a bx fld dnatins, preparing t catalg sme rare bks, when I fund a small, yellwed envelpe between the pages f an
ancient jurnal. It had n address, n stamp, and n indicatin f its rigin. Curius, I carefully pened it.
The handwriting was elegant but faded, the ink barely visible against the paper. The letter read,“Dear Stranger,
If yu are reading this, knw that yu are nt alne. Life has a way f making us feel islated, as if ur stries are insignificant. But every life matters. Every stry is imprtant. I hpe the letter finds smene wh needs t hear these wrds.
Yu are strnger than yu think. Yu have the pwer t change yur wrld, ne small act at a time. Dn’t be afraid t take risks, t fllw yur dreams, and t embrace the unknwn. The greatest jurneys begin with a single step.
      With hpe,
      A Friend”
I read the letter ver and ver, feeling a strange mix f emtins. The wrds resnated
deeply within me, as if they were written specifically fr me. I had always been cntent with my life, but lately, I felt a grwing sense f restlessness. The library was my sanctuary (庇护所), but it had als becme my prisn. I had lst sight f my wn dreams, my wn stry.
That evening, as I clsed the library, I culdn’t shake the feeling that the letter was a sign. I had always been cautius, preferring the safety f rutine t the uncertainty f change. But the
letter reminded me that life was meant t be lived, nt just bserved.

根据第二段“With his supprt, I enjyed a remarkable summer in a labratry in Japan, which left me wanting mre. S, I applied fr a Fulbright fellwship in Pland.(在他的支 持下,我在日本的一个实验室度过了一个非凡的夏天,这让我渴望更多。所以,我申请了波兰的富布赖特奖学金)” 可知,作者申请波兰奖学金是为了获得另一次有意义的经历。故选C。
25 .细节理解题。根据第五段“I learned as much abut the histry and culture in Central and
Eastern Eurpe as I did scientifically.(我对中欧和东欧的历史和文化的了解与我在科学方面的了解一样多)” 以及第六段 “My cultural immersin made me a better researcher. I nw see
crss-cultural cperatins as a way t vercme cmmunicatin barriers that can blck prgress in science.(我的文化沉浸使我成为一名更好的研究者。
根据第二段“With his supprt, I enjyed a remarkable summer in a labratry in Japan, which left me wanting mre. S, I applied fr a Fulbright fellwship in Pland.(在他的支
Relying n Ggle t translate lab websites, I began t
send cld emails. When my eventual hst respnded, eager t cllabrate, I was thrilled.(依靠谷
再根据第四段 “I was the first visiting schlar my research grup had hsted frm the United States, and my Plish clleagues were curius abut what brught me t their cuntry. This led t many fruitful
discussins abut the similarities and differences in hw science is cnducted acrss cultures.(我是我的研究小组接待的第一位来自美国的访问学者,我的波兰同事们很好奇是什么把我带到了他们的国家。这引发了许多关于不同文化中科学研究方式的异同的富有成效的讨论)” 和第五段 “Clleagues related firsthand accunts abut challenges the regin faced during the Cld War. Many labratries had limited resurces, and they rarely published their research in English.
Thse cnditins helped shape research n antimicrbial treatment int bacteriphage and
antibitics, and Pland remain leaders in the frmer t this day.(同事们讲述了该地区在冷战期
I nw see crss - cultural cperatins as a way t vercme
cmmunicatin barriers that can blck prgress in science.(我现在将跨文化合作视为克服阻碍科学进步的沟通障碍的一种方式)” 可推知,作者认为跨文化合作对科学的进步是至关重要的。故选 A。

Dust is everywhere and always finds a way t settle nt surfaces, n matter hw many times yu clean them. Gelgical and bilgical surces alng with
human-caused surces, like cnstructin and mining, create surface particle pllutin that can ften reduce the visibility f windws and the perfrmance f slar cells by blcking the
Scientists have used these prperties f bilgical materials t
create self-cleaning surfaces but their effectiveness relies n the availability f water, making it
dependent n weather cnditins like humidity (湿度). This dependency severely affects their
根据倒数第二段“The team has termed it the “particle shielding effect”, which cuts the buildup f atmspheric dust by almst 90 percent.(该团队将其称为“粒子屏蔽效应” ,该效应能将大气中的灰尘积聚减少近 90%。)”
The glass uses cmmn materials, and its prductin prcess — which invlves applying a cnductive layer nt a glass sheet and then cvering it with a thin
prtective film — fits well with current industrial methds.(这种玻璃使用的是常见的材料,其生产过程——包括在玻璃片上涂上导电层,然后覆盖上一层薄薄的保护膜——与当前的工业方法十分契合。)”

In fact, many experts argue that the mst imprtant 21st-century skills aren’t related t specific technlgies r subject matter, but t creative skills like
If play and building are critical t 21st-century skill develpment, that’s really gd news fr tw reasns: Children are brn builders, makers, and creatrs, s
fstering 21st-century skills may be as simple as giving kids rm t play, tinker, and try things
