In 2016, when I was n the graduate scheme (计划) at Deutsche Bank, Marie Inafidn, chief executive f Stemettes, wh encurages girls t pursue careers in science, technlgy, engineering and maths (STEM), was als wrking there. I didn’t meet her at the time, but I did read an article abut her and her career.
Learning at 21 years ld abut the career f a yung black wman’s succeeding in a traditinally white male-dminated industry was ne f the mst influential things that ever happened t me. It gave me cnfidence that it was pssible t d well in the ffice and wrk n persnal external prject at the same time.
Rle mdels can play a central rle in shaping a yung prfessinal’s career. They are especially imprtant if yu belng t an under-represented grup fr whm a lack f representatin in the wrkplace can lead t feeling islated and lacking in cnfidence. They can help thse just starting ut, whether r nt they are a graduate as I was, t believe in their wn abilities.
There’s a grwing need t have accessible rle mdels. Given the tendency t exaggerate (夸大) success stries, hearing frm wmen wh talk hnestly abut the challenges they have faced, either when starting a business r frming a new career path, is much mre effective. A study revealed that 70 per cent f girls say they think differently abut their futures after hearing frm wmen rle mdels.
I’m frequently asked abut what businesses culd be ding t increase racial diversity in the wrkplace. A gd starting pint is t actively prmte and supprt the vices f the peple in the rganisatin that are leading psitive change and inspiring thers. This makes a real difference. Unlike the tkenism (装样子) I still cme acrss, which results in individuals being made the lne representative fr a grup withut real supprt frm the rganisatin.
Things came full circle fr me when I interviewed Ms. Inafidn fr my bk in 2019. I was able t tell her f the incredible impact her passin and cnfidence had had n me as a graduate trainee and hw grateful I wuld always be fr that.

Imagine a nt-t-distant future, where we each inhabit ur wn AI-driven digital filter bubble (数字滤泡) , crafted fr us alne and designed t serve cmmercial interests. This future is like 1998’s mvie The Truman Shw, where the main character unknwingly lived his life within a reality TV shw designed by a studi.
Large language mdels (LLM), wn’t turn ur lives int reality TV shws. Instead, persnalized AI agents threaten t cage each f us in an individualized unreality, prfiting frm ur digital activities and walling us ff frm genuine cnnectins. Many cmpanies are develping individualized LLM. The principle is that AI will learn abut individual users and adapt accrdingly. If yu’re a superfan f a ftball team, yu’ll be fed updates and ads tailred t yur interests.
This may sund harmless. But the next step is t use LLM t create memes (模因,网络梗), r even fake articles. This is a miserable reality because there are neither cmputatinal methds nr mral guidelines in place t ensure that the infrmatin yu receive is true. But just as frightening as the lack f regard fr the truth is an even scarier element. Yu will n lnger have such an accurate understanding f the ftball team as anyne else’s. Yu will run n infrmatin generated nly fr yurself. This visin is unsettling, even in sprts and entertainment. But what f educatin? Plitics?
With the fall f the press and divisin f everything, cnversatins arund hliday table have already becme impssible fr many extended families. Bad as the current situatin might be, stranger times lie ahead that make us lng fr tday’s ech chambers (信息茧房). Sn, ur bubbles will becme smaller and smaller, until ur digital wrlds invlve nly urselves. As a sciety, with n shared understanding f the wrld, we will be cmpletely incapable f making fruitful cllective decisins.
What’s the way ut? Find yur entertainment in spaces with actual peple, exchanging thughts and creatins with each ther. Even nline, we must keep ur understanding f the wrld grunded in human-authred dcuments and artifacts. Valuing what humans create is nt merely a matter f realness; it als ensures we fcus n arguments that an authr cared enugh t make, n cnversatins that speakers cared enugh t have.
28.Why is The Truman Shw in Paragraph 1 mentined?
A.T make a cmparisn.B.T illustrate a situatin.
C.T supprt an argument.D.T prpse a suggestin.

B.Cnfirming the credibility f the cntent.
C.Standing by the cmpanies’ mral values.
D.Imprving user behavir by feeding targeted ads.
30.What can be inferred frm the text?
A.AI has raised cncerns ver privacy.
B.LLMs are in need f faster tech upgrade.
C.Ech chambers weaken cllective decisin-making.
D.Technlgy develpment results in a divided sciety.
31.Which wuld be the best title fr this passage?
A.AI and the Future f Human Interactin
B.AI Will Turn Our Lives int The Truman Shw
C.The Truman Shw Predicts AI’s Impact n Media
D.Digital Bubbles and the Value f Human Creatins

Wilderness
“In wilderness(荒野) is the preservatin f the wrld.” This is a famus saying frm a writer regarded as ne f the fathers f envirnmentalism. The frequency with which it is brrwed mirrrs a heated debate n envirnmental prtectin: whether t place wilderness at the heart f what is t be preserved.
As Jhn Sauven f Greenpeace UK pints ut, there is a strng appeal in images f the wild, the untuched; mre than anything else, they speak f the nature that many peple value mst dearly. The urge t leave the subject f such images untuched is strng, and the danger explitatin(开发) brings t such landscapes(景观) is real. Sme f these wildernesses als perfrm functins that humans need—the rainfrests, fr example, stre carbn in vast quantities. T Mr.Sauven, these ”ecsystem services” far utweigh the gains frm explitatin.
Lee Lane, a visiting fellw at the Hudsn Institute, takes the ppsing view. He acknwledges that wildernesses d prvide useful services, such as water cnservatin. But that is nt, he argues, a reasn t avid all human presence, r indeed cmmercial and industrial explitatin. There are ever mre peple n the Earth, and they reasnably and rightfully want t have better lives, rather than merely struggle fr survival. While the ways f using resurces have imprved, there is still a grwing need fr raw materials, and sme wildernesses cntain them in abundance. If they can be tapped withut reducing the services thse wildernesses prvide, the argument ges, there is n further reasn nt t d s. Being untuched is nt, in itself, a characteristic wrth valuing abve all thers.
I lk frwards t seeing these views taken further, and t their being challenged by the ther participants. One challenge that suggests itself t me is that bth cases need t take n the questin f spiritual value a little mre directly. And there is a practical questin as t whether wildernesses can be explited withut harm.
This is a tpic that calls fr nt nly free expressin f feelings, but als the guidance f reasn. What psitin wilderness shuld enjy in the preservatin f the wrld bviusly deserves much mre serius thinking.
32.Jhn Sauven hlds that_____.
A.many peple value nature t much
B.explitatin f wildernesses is harmful
C.wildernesses prvide humans with necessities
D.the urge t develp the ecsystem services is strng
33.What is the main idea f Para. 3?
A.The explitatin is necessary fr the pr peple.
B.Wildernesses cannt guarantee better use f raw materials.
C.Useful services f wildernesses are nt the reasn fr n explitatin.
D.All the characteristics cncerning the explitatin shuld be treated equally.
34.What is the authr’s attitude twards this debate?
A.Objective.B.Disapprving.C.Sceptical.D.Optimistic.
35.Which f the fllwing shws the structure f the passage?
CP: Central Pint P: Pint Sp: Sub-pint(次要点) : Cnclusin
A.B.C.D.

Ckies fr Frgiveness
Last week, a U-Haul truck pulled up acrss the street, and a cllege student unladed a Ping-Png table nt his frnt lawn. T mst, it might seem harmless, but t me, it was a trigger. In my twn, a Ping-Png table n a lawn isn’t just fr games — it’s a beer-png table, a symbl f late-night nise and chas. Years ag, my husband and I lived near the university, surrunded by students wh turned beer png int a lifestyle. The thumping bass and laughter kept us awake night after night. We eventually mved t a quieter neighbrhd, at great expense, t escape it.
S, when I saw that table, memries f thse sleepless nights flded back. Anger bubbled up inside me, ht and uncntrllable. I marched ver, past the table, and kncked n the student’s dr. I demanded he remve it, expecting him t aplgize. Instead, he met my rage with defiance. “Wh are yu t tell me what t d?” he sht back. His wrds nly fueled my fury. I yelled things I didn’t mean, my vice sharp with prfanity (脏话). My husband, sensing truble, pulled me away befre things escalated further.
The rest f the day, I seethed (强忍怒火). But by mrning, shame replaced anger. I shuddered as I replayed the cnfrntatin in my mind. Why culdn’t I keep my cl? Why did I let smething s trivial ignite me? I’ve always struggled with anger — it runs in my family — but I’ve wrked hard t change. Therapy, meditatin, jurnaling—I’ve tried them all. Yet, there I was, yelling at a stranger ver a Ping-Png table. I knew I had t make it right.
I turned t what I d best: baking. I pulled ut a batch f frzen peanut butter chclate chunk ckie dugh I’d made weeks earlier. The dugh balls were my secret weapn, ready t transfrm int warm, cmfrting ckies at a mment’s ntice. As the ckies baked, the huse filled with their sweet, buttery arma. I let them cl, then arranged them n a plate, my hands trembling.
