    A.Curageus and helpful.
    B.Humrus and patient.
    C.Optimistic and cautius.
    D.Generus and wise.

Renewable energy prjects, including nshre and ffshre wind and slar farms, have s far been subsidized(资助) by gvernment supprt schemes. This has led t sme cmplaining that clean energy is pushing up bills.
Hwever, the mst recently apprved ffshre wind prjects will mst likely perate with “negative subsidies”—paying mney back t the gvernment. The mney will g twards reducing husehld energy bills as the ffshre wind farms start prducing pwer in the mid-2020s.
This is the cnclusin f an analysis by an internatinal team led by Imperial Cllege Lndn researchers published tday in Nature Energy.
Lead researcher Dr Malte Jansen, frm the Centre fr Envirnmental Plicy at Imperial, said,“Offshre wind pwer will sn be s cheap t prduce that it will undercut fssil-fueled pwer statins and may be the cheapest frm f energy fr the UK.Energy subsidies used t push up energy bills, but within a few years, cheap renewable energy will see them brught dwn fr the first time. This is an astnishing develpment.”
The analysis fr five cuntries in Eurpe, including the UK,fcused n a series f gvernment auctins(拍卖) fr ffshre wind farms between February 2015 and September 2019.Cmpanies that want t build wind farms bid in the auctins by stating the price at which they will sell the energy they prduce t the gvernment.
These are knwn as “cntracts fr difference” r CfDs.If a cmpany’s bid is higher than the whlesale electricity price n the UK market nce the wind farm is up and running, then the cmpany will receive a subsidy frm the gvernment t tp up the price.
Hwever,if the stated price(规定价格) is less than the whlesale price, then the cmpany will pay the gvernment back the difference. This payback is then passed thrugh t cnsumers’ energy bills, reducing the amunt that hmes and businesses will pay fr electricity.
The winning cmpanies said they culd build new ffshre wind farms fr arund £40 per megawatt hur (MWh) f pwer. This was a new recrd set by these wind farms with bids 30 percent lwer than just tw years earlier.
5.The underlined wrds “tp up” in Paragraph 6 prbably mean “ ”.
    A.make up B.take up
    C.cver D.fill up
    答案 A
根据前文“subsidized(资助)”可知,名词subsidy意为“资助”,所以“the cmpany will receive a subsidy frm the gvernment”是指这家公司会从政府得到资助,再根据 “If a cmpany’s bid is higher than the whlesale electricity price n the UK market nce the wind farm is up and running”可知,此处是指这家公司会从政府得到资助来弥补价格。由此可知tp up意为“弥补”,和make up含义相同。故选A。
6.What can be inferred frm the passage?
A.The renewable energy prjects will lead t sme cmplaining that clean energy is pushing up bills.
B.The cmpany whse bid is less than the whlesale electricity price will receive a subsidy.
C.The stated electricity price is nw higher than the whlesale electricity price.
D.Fssil-fueled pwer will be sn prduced cheaply.
根据第五段最后一句“Cmpanies that want t build wind farms bid in the auctins by stating the price at which they will sell the energy they prduce t the gvernment.”
7.What is Dr Malte Jansen’s attitude twards the ffshre wind farms?
    A.Curius. B.Pessimistic.
    C.Indifferent. D.Optimistic.
根据第四段中Jansen博士说的话“Offshre wind pwer will sn be s cheap t prduce that it will undercut fssil-fueled pwer statins and may be the cheapest frm f energy fr the UK.”
8.Where des this text prbably cme frm?
A.A science fictin. B.A financial magazine.
    C.An advertisement. D.A science reprt.

Every fur r five years, vast quantities f warm water build up alng the west cast f Suth America. This phenmenn,El Niñ(厄尔尼诺),creates strms that cause devastating flds. The result is cstly. In 2017,fr instance,El Niñ shut dwn nrthern Peru’s sugar-cane business.
Mdern farmers view El Niñ stically(坚忍地).They use mney saved in gd years t rebuild in bad nes.But histry suggests it need nt be like that.In a paper published recently,Ari Caramanica,an archaelgist at University f the Pacific,in Lima, shws hw it used t be dne.And the answer seems t be,“better”.
Dr Caramanica and her clleagues have been studying the Pampa de Mcan,a castal desert plain in nrthern Peru.Pampa de Mcan is nt ideal fr farming. Its sil cntains little rganic matter and the annual rainfall in nn-Niñ years is usually less than tw centimetres.Tday’s farmers therefre depend n canals t carry water frm lcal rivers t their fields.
It had been assumed that ancient farmers had a similar arrangement—and s they did.But Dr Caramanica als fund eight canals that culd carry water far beynd the range f mdern farms.Since the climate was similar t the present day’s when these canals were dug,and the river n higher, she suppsed that they were intended t guide the fldwater arriving during Niñ years.Arund a quarter f the ancient agricultural infrastructure (基础设施) f this area seems t have been built nly fr managing Niñ-generated fldwater.
Evidence reveals that Pampa de Mcan prduced lts f crps in sme years.Dr Caramanica’s team als discvered tw cisterns (蓄水池) in the area. These, pssibly, were used t stre fldwater.
These findings suggest that, rather than resisting El Niñ,early farmers in Pampa de Mcan were ready t make use f it when it arrived.Precisely hw they managed their fields in Niñ years remains t be discvered. But mdern farmers might d well t learn frm them.
9.What made the farms in Pampa de Mcan prductive?
    A.Rich sil.
    B.Agreeable climate.
    C.Abundant rainfall.
    D.Agricultural cnstructins.
根据第三段的“Tday’s farmers therefre depend n canals t carry water frm lcal rivers t their fields.”
10.What’s the authr’s attitude t the ancient ways f dealing with El Niñ?
    A.Apprving. B.Indifferent.
    C.Critical. D.Negative.
    答案 A
故选A。
11.What d we knw abut El Niñ frm the text?
A.It can be used in farming.
B.It is usually caused by flds.
C.It has little influence n business.
D.It is always resisted as a disaster.
    答案 A
故选A。
12.Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
    A.Surviving El Niñ
    B.Living with El Niñ
    C.Farming in Different Times
    D.Learning frm Histry
    Ⅱ.七选五
What makes yu cry?Being mved by a sad mvie, waving a lved ne ff,r getting emtinal after splitting up with yur partner can all cause tears t rll dwn ur faces. 1
When yu think abut it,shedding tears frm yur eyes can cause embarrassment r cnfusin. But it seems t be an autmatic reactin when we get sad r upset. 2 Hwever, the feeling is the same—yur cheeks puff up,yur eyes tighten and befre yu knw it,tears are streaming dwn yur face.Sme f us may weep a little while thers might cry like a baby.
A study in the UK in 2017 fund that wmen admitted they cry 72 times a year. This was,n average, mre than men.Adam Rutherfrd,a leading researcher, says that the result has been pretty much cnsistent with previus research. 3 Are they just mre embarrassed abut shwing their true feelings? The debate cntinues.
One place where we experience emtinal and tearful utbursts is in the wrkplace. 4 Smene might be stressed with a heavy wrklad. And,as therapist Janna Crss puts it,“Crying is ften a build-up f frustratin and undealt-with situatins and it’s a bit f a final straw mment.” She describes hw smene might start weeping when they’re just asked t make a cup f tea.Actually, their stress has accumulated t the breaking pint.
But crying in the ffice r elsewhere can be an effective stress reliever. It can actually make yu feel better. 5 Crying yur eyes ut shws thers hw yu feel,s perhaps it’s wing t a crying shame that mre f us,particularly men,dn’t cry mre ften.
A.Then hw d we cpe with it?
B.This can be where emtins run high.
C.Peple reach their breaking pint in different ways.
D.We all have the pwer t cry,but is that a gd thing?
E.Maybe it disslves r clears the negative feelings yu’ve had.
F.What brings abut this reactin differs frm persn t persn.
G.But des this mean men dn’t get as upset r emtinal as wmen?
