It's cmmnly thught that bys perfrm better than girls in math and science. Researchers have challenged that steretype(成见) fr a lng time, and a recent study, published in the jurnal Nature Cmmunicatins in September, fund a new way t attack it.
The study fund that wmen are better than men at sustaining(维持) their perfrmance n lnger tests, including math and science.
Researchers Pau Balart, frm the University f the Balearic Islands in Spain, and Matthijs Osterveen frm Erasmus University in the Netherlands, analyzed data cllected every three years frm 2006 t 2015. The data came frm 74 cuntries and regins, fr the Prgramme fr Internatinal Student Assessment (PISA). This is a standardized test f 15-year-ld students' perfrmance in reading, math and science.
Their earlier results agreed with earlier findings that bys d better than girls in math and science. But when they cmpared the tw grups' scres at different stages f the test, girls tended t perfrm mre stably in math and science, while bys started getting fewer crrect answers.
Althugh bys seemed t shw advantages frm the start in math and science, the authrs wrte, “This finding suggests that lnger tests shrink it in math and science, ” accrding t Nature. T prve this, the researchers analyzed anther database with ver 400 math tests, which lasted lnger than PISA's tw hurs. They fund that, at least fr math, the scring gap between bys and girls decreased.
This isn't the bservatin f better test endurance(忍耐力) in wmen. Oxfrd University used t add an extra 15 minutes t its math and cmputer science exams. They fund female students' scres imprved.
