I'm an English self-learner; English is not my first language. Today I am an English teacher. I would like to voice that failures are not disasters. Have faith, keep moving on, and never give up, you will see your hard work pay off.
I was a slow learner when I was little. Before five, I couldn't even speak in full sentences. Unlike most other children, I seldom interacted with others; I neither cried nor got angry. My extreme quietness made my parents wonder if I was mentally slow, but they were not sure. Actually, I have to admit that my memories of my early childhood are quite uncertain.
When I was in elementary school, I learned very slowly and was as quiet as a doll. While my teacher was teaching, my mind oftentimes would wander outside of the classroom to the playground. The learning problems and inactive personality remained with me until I was in Grade 5. As a fifth grader, I finally started interacting with my classmates. That was the first time in my memory that I had had some friends. More amazingly, from that time on, I became talkative, laughing and playing like any normal child.
After heading full speed for my junior high education, my learning situation got stuck in the mud again. In my country, students were arranged into different levels of classes based on their IQ test scores. For example, students with higher IQ scores were placed in the outstanding class; average ones joined the intermediate class, and slower students were destined (注定) for the “bottom class”. I was placed in the “bottom class” as a result of my below-average IQ score. Most of my teachers taught us using easy and slow methods because they considered us unable to learn much. Despite that, I never lost faith that I might succeed one day as if to prove that when God closes a door, he will definitely open up a big window. A miracle occurred. That's when I discovered a strong passion for English.

[精彩范文]
At_the_age_of_13,_I_found_myself_deeply_interested_in_English. Besides reading English textbooks, I made a habit of reading English magazines, listening to English programmes, and keeping an English diary. Moreover, I summarized almost every story in books or magazines to improve my writing skills. In order to strengthen my English speaking ability, I oftentimes told myself those stories in English. I also wrote down unfamiliar words or phrases in notebooks and frequently reviewed them.
That_way,_I_could_further_expand_my_vocabulary. I kept learning, and realised that no matter how hard or how unfair my situation was, I could choose to move on, rather than give up. After college, I set my goal to pursue further education in America. Where there is a will, there is a way, as the old saying goes. With over 10 years of consistent English self-study, I successfully passed TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) without going to any cram schools or language centers, and headed for America to pursue my higher education.
总评 在内容上,上下文连贯紧凑,故事情节完整,环环相扣。

Mr Brown lived in a house less than two miles away from his office. He was therefore able to drive home every day for lunch. Every time he drove home in the middle of the day, he found cars were parked in the road outside his house, and there was no room for his own car. He had to drive two blocks farther before he could find a place to park. Then he had to walk home. This made him very angry.
He had put up a board which read “No Parking!” in the garden facing the road, but nobody seemed to pay attention to it. People only obeyed a police notice, but not a private one. There were no parked cars where there was a blue board with white letters on it: Police Notice No Parking!
Mrs Brown suggested that he should steal a police notice. But he dared not, being afraid of going to prison. She then suggested that he make one just like a police notice. He said he was not a policeman and couldn't use the word “police”. He decided that he must find a way out and started thinking hard. For several days, the smell of paint filled the house. One night he showed his wife a new notice board. It was painted in white letters on a blue board: Polite Notice No Parking!
“Oh,” Mrs Brown said, “but you told me you weren't going to use the word ‘police’”.
“Is it?” he asked. “Look again.”
She began to laugh, “You are really rather clever.”

Why_did_Mrs_Brown_say_her_husband_was_really_rather_clever? Because she found that he had written a notice which looked exactly like a police notice. He made a blue board with white letters on it, but it was not a real police notice. Being afraid of going to prison, Mr Brown certainly dared not use the word “police”, but he used “polite notice” instead of “police notice”. He was quite clever, wasn't he?
If_the_police_discovered_that_the_Browns_were_using_a_police_notice,_they would feel angry and punish them. It was a crime because he offended the police, passing himself off as a policeman. But Mr Brown remained very calm. He would ask the policemen to look at the board carefully. The policemen would burst out laughing when they realised what had happened.
