Ⅳ.阅读理解
Seni Felic has already lived through a crisis. He came to America in 1994 as a refugee (难民) from the war in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He was 29 years old at the time and alone.
These days,he owns a restaurant in San Francisco called Bistro SF Grill, and he is feeling optimistic despite the crisis.“We’re going to pool our resources and people will pull together, and it will have a strong effect on solving any problems,” he told Reader’s Digest.
With that attitude in mind,he posted this on Nextdoor:“We are inviting all to stop by Bistro SF Grill at 1305 Castro St.to grab a lunch or dinner prepackaged box beginning on Tuesday,March 17,beginning at noon and every day after.Price is only $5.50 and it covers our expenses.”
Bistro SF Grill will be offering three different meals:chicken, rice, and vegetables; fish, rice, and vegetables; and vegan mushroom paella. All are gluten-free (无谷蛋白).The menu will change weekly.
“A lot of seniors, families, and people who don’t know how to cook are in need of fresh,high-quality food daily,” Felic said.“I’ve seen much worse than this—groups of people with guns, and people killed.I was hungry for three years.Under these conditions, food is necessary. Our idea is:Let’s try to help. We’d like to give for free but we can’t afford it.”
The restaurant started a GoFundMe (请资助我) page to further lower the cost of the meals. So far, neighbours have pitched in almost $2,000.
He believes that working together and helping others will be the key to helping us—all of us—get through this.“This problem will be contained, and I just feel optimistic,” he added.“When people come together,I think we can overcome almost difficulty.”

Should Music Be Played
During the Class Break?
参考范文
Should Music Be Played During the Class Break?
Yesterday we had a heated discussion about whether music should be played during the class break or not.As for this, opinions were divided into two parts.
Most of the students argued that music should be played for it can produce better efficiency and greater relaxation as well as a lively and happy study environment. However, some held a different view that they can’t get the expected effect from playing music during a short period. What is needed most during the class break is peace rather than the noise produced by music.
As far as I’m concerned,we should choose the right kind of music and it’s better to play soft music, which is suitable for us middle school students.
Ⅵ.读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Early in the morning I went to the ocean beach to play my guitar. The usually crowded beach was deserted except for two people. On one side of the boardwalk (木板人行道) was a woman who was cleaning the beach with a broom; on the other side was a lone figure sitting and staring out at the sea.I chose a spot between them and began to play.
As I played, the woman with the broom swept her way right next to me.She stopped sweeping and leaned on her broom, smiling at me.She appeared to be homeless with dirty mismatched clothes.
“You sure play beautiful music,” she said.“I think my friend would like your music.I want to hire you to play for her.” She pointed to the lone figure staring out at the ocean, then produced a few coins from her pocket.“I don’t have much, and I know you’re worth a lot,but if I give this to you, will you play a song for her? She’s going through a lot.I know the music will make her feel better.”
I told her I’d be happy to play for free.
As we walked over to her friend, the Broom Lady told me that her friend had not talked for weeks. We approached, and the Broom Lady introduced me,“Annie,I got you a present to cheer you up.It’s a guitar man who is going to play a song specially for you.”
Annie didn’t move. She was wearing dark sunglasses and had an old coat pulled up to cover most of her face.
I sat next to Annie and played. As I played,I put every thought into having good things happen for this woman.I played for quite a while.
Suddenly,Annie turned toward me and said,“You make it so beautiful.I can feel it inside my heart.”
注意:续写词数应为150左右;
She took off her sunglasses.
When I stopped playing and looked up,I was shocked to see a small crowd around us.
参考范文
She took off her sunglasses.I could tell a faint glow pierced the dark clouds of frustration in her eyes.I gestured to her to sit opposite to me and she slowly moved closer.I kept on playing the guitar, trying to reveal my sympathy, understanding and comfort through the soft melodies. It seemed that she couldn’t but recall the bitter and severe days she went through as tears streamed down her cheeks. She didn’t wipe them off but had them falling down,as if all her worries and sorrows went away as well.
When I stopped playing and looked up,I was shocked to see a small crowd around us.They looked at me with enthusiasm, bursting into applause.Annie stood up and clapped her hands too.Several women, having kept an eye on her, approached and hugged her, whispering some cheerful words before they left.Refreshed and relieved,Annie threw her arms around my neck and uttered,“Thank you for your music.” It assured the Broom Lady of her return to normal speech.I had put on numerous shows to different audiences, but this remained the most healing and rewarding one.
