Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.
Most travelers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without saying anything. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway, and if you’re travelling in Thailand, never touch people’s heads or point your feet at people. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards-but you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.
In most countries in Europe people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. And in South America people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA you need to give people more personal space Also, it’s rude to interrupt Japanese people while they are talking to you. You must wait until they finish before you start speaking.
In restaurants in China you can leave a bit of food on your plate, it’s OK to start smoking before other people finish eating, which you mustn’t do in the UK. When in India, remember to eat with your right hand. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s bad luck.
When you’re travelling in Asia, if someone invites you to his or her home, don’t forget to take off your shoes when you arrive. And if you visit an Arab family’s home, don’t admire anything valuable because your host will feel he should give it to you as a present.
With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer going on holiday in their own countries—or you might just decide to stay at home.

Technology is everywhere. We see it any place we go and, in fact, almost all of us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house. What I always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others
There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices lying around in it. Whenever I am at home,I am almost always using at least one electronic device. If you walked into my living room on any given day, you would find that, first, I have the television on. At the same time, I usually have my laptop resting on my knee,or I will be using my mobile phone Even when I‘m not at home I am always using my phone, and at work or in cafes,I sit down and connect to the local wireless network on my computer.
I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering
The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good for the world and to help others and recently I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world. From using your language skills to do translations, to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work, there is so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across the world. The United Nations,in fact, has a huge page with “Volunteers Recruited” on its website.
This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff. Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week-some even less. And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need.
30. From Paragraph 2, we can know that the writer_______
A. uses technology a lot B. works in a cafe
C. is a computer engineer D. likes modern music
31. The underlined word “Recruited “ in Paragraph 4 means“_______”
A. Ordered B. Wanted
C. Visited D. Warned
32. In the writer‘s opinion, people should spend more time with technology.
A. working on computer programs B. keeping the Internet safe
C inventing electronic products D. helping people in need
33. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Website Design B. Internet Organizations
C. Online Volunteering D. Online Translation

Once there was a poor lady who lived on a hill near the seashore. Her husband died. She had no children and lived by herself. She was so poor that she had to work hard every day.
But one night as she sat at the table, the lady said to herself, "I wish I could be of some use to the world. Why can't I do good to someone else besides myself?" At last, she came up with an idea.
She decided that she would keep a lighted lamp at the window for the sailors every night. She found that ships sometimes hit the rocks in the sea, since there was no lighthouse to warn them of the danger at night. Maybe her lamp would warn them when their ships came near the rocks on the coast.
The lady felt glad when the thought came into her mind. She found that, if she worked an hour longer each night, she could make enough money to pay for the oil for the lamp. So she worked late and made money to buy the oil and then she placed the lamp at the window each night. In this way she saved many lives.
She did this for five years without any reward, or the hope of reward. However, good deeds are often found out. The sailors whose lives had been saved began to send gifts to her from faraway countries. They sent her tea from China, cloth from India, silk from France and grapes from Spain. But the poor lady did not need these gifts to make her happy. She gave many of them to the poor and the sick.
She was happy with the thought that she was doing something good. So, as long as she lived, she would light her lamp each night and place it at the window.
34.How did the lady get the money to pay for the oil?
A. She sold tea and grapes to others.
B. She raised money from the sailors.
C. She got money from the government.
D. She worked one more hour each night.
35.What can we know about the lady?
A. She knew the sailors. B. She worked on a ship.
C. She was kind-hearted. D. She lived alone on the sea.
36.Why was the lady happy?
A. Because more and more people knew her.
B. Because she became much richer than before.
C. Because she received great reward from others.
D. Because she helped many people in her own way.
37.What's the best title for the text?
A. Ships in the Sea B. The Lady’s Lamp
C. Gifts from Sailors D. Love for the Poor

Hi, I am Paul. I have some experiences about the importance of first-aid training. One day, I was having lunch in the park with my grandparents, my sister and her one-year-old daughter. Rose was sitting on my sister's knees and eating. My sister was watching her carefully because her teeth just started to grow. Then my sister's phone started to ring. She left Rose with my grandparents so she could focus on the call. I did not think anything about this and started to play a game on my phone.
Suddenly I heard Rose coughing. I looked up and found that Rose was breathing difficultly. My grandparents were standing up and looking worried,
"We just gave her one nut. " my grandfather said.
Immediately I ran to get my sister. She has had first-aid training and knew just what to do. She used the Heimlich maneuver , which pushed the nut out of Rose's throat so she could breathe again. Accidents happen quickly and can cost a loved one's life if you do not know how to respond. After that scary day, I decided to take first-aid classes. My training has since helped me save a life too.
One morning, my father was up a ladder painting our house. I heard a loud noise and rushed outside. He was lying on the ground. He must have hit his head because his eyes were closed. I was scared but knew what to do. I moved his body into the recovery position (复苏体位), put a blanket over him and called an ambulance. If you get knocked out, your brain cannot help you breathe or stay warm. The fall could have caused some bleeding so the recovery position helps the throat clear. The ambulance men said I had done the right thing.
I think everyone should have first-aid training.
38. When did Paul start to play a game on his phone?
39. What will happen if you don't know how to respond to accidents?
40. How did Paul's sister save Rose's life?
41. Why did Paul make his father keep the recovery position?
42. According to the passage, what advice do you think Paul will give us?
38. After his sister left Rose with his grandparents.
39. Accidents happen quickly and can cost a loved one's life.
40. She used/ By using the Heimlich manoeuvre, which pushed the nut out of Rose's throat.
41. To help the throat clear.
