【语篇导读】挪威气象研究所称，挪威北极斯瓦尔巴特群岛周五的气温记录为21.7℃，这是自1979年以来的最高气温。由于气温的升高，造成了北极地区冰层的融化，同时，也给当地的动物及人类生存带来了极大的威胁。
Nrwegian Arctic Archipelag Breaks Highest Temperature RecrdTemperatures at Nrway Arctic Archipelag (北极群岛) Svalbard recrded 21．7 degrees Celsius n Friday, the highest temperature recrded since 1979, Nrway’s Meterlgical Institute said.
A scientific study revealed① that glbal warming wuld be mst substantial② in the Arctic, with warming happening twice as fast as the rest f the planet. Last February, the Nrwegian Center fr Climate Studies said that since the early 1970s, average temperatures in Svalbard increased between three and five degrees Celsius. [2] It culd further rise by 10 degrees by 2100, shuld the greenhuse emissins cntinue t climb.
The increase in temperatures wuld thaw⑤ the frzen grund, causing structures like buildings, rads, and airprts t cllapse. High temperatures wuld als increase the incidences f landslides and avalanche⑥. In 2015, an avalanche destryed ten huses in Lngyearbyen, claiming(夺去) the lives f tw peple. The warming Svalbard als threatens plar bears and seals as the mentined wildlife depends n sea ice cver t survive. Svalbard is knwn as the hme f plar bears.
Svalbard is the hme f the dmsday vault⑦， a building that cllects stcks f seeds frm all ver the wrld since 2008．The facility was designed t prtect seeds frm any glbal disaster and ensure humanity’s fd supply frever. Hwever, in 2017, glbal warming caused high temperatures ver the winter that melt water flded the nce-impenetrable facility entrance, and it frze int ice. The precius seeds remained unscathed(未受伤的), but the incident raised dubts(质疑) n the vault’s capacity t survive fr humanity.
