For Stevens Point locals in the US, the city is flooded with delicious fried fish. Here are four top choices for the community to have a try.
Hilltop Pub & Grill
Hilltop Pub & Grill first opened in the 1980s and took the Stevens Point community by storm with its delicious food and unique decoration style. Its fried fish are beloved due to the use of “high-quality North Atlantic cod, with a light beer batter(面糊)”.
The Final Score Bar & Grill
The Final Score Bar & Grill aimed to become a local hot spot in 2001 when Jim Billings, the owner, took charge of the business. Billings feels that their five batter flavors set them apart from their neighboring bars. Besides, various wines are available.

But its history runs much longer. “Before it was Point After Pub & Grill, it had been Northside Bar for 30 plus years,” explained Molski, the owner. Molski feels that the pub's four special batter choices and other fish specials are what help make it an area landmark.
Two Harps Pub
This Irish pub opened its door to the public in 2017 and has been drawing fans and locals ever since. “I had done my career for a long time and was kind of bored with it,” said Nick Moore, the owner. “And this opportunity fell into my lap, so I went with it. A 4-year-old girl from Somerset, New Jersey, is being praised as a hero after she quickly called emergency officials, helped police into her locked home and took care of her younger siblings after her mother suddenly collapsed.
Around 8 a.m. on Dec. 6, Isla Glaser was home with her mother, Haley Glaser, and her 2-year-old sister and 1-year-old twin brothers when her mother passed out. Isla attempted to wake her, but she couldn't, and that finally led her to call 911.
“My mommy fell down. She can't talk,” Isla told the dispatcher during the call. The dispatcher then asked Isla if her mother was sleeping and other questions like if her mom's eyes were open or if Isla could wake her up. Isla even told the dispatcher that her mother had been sick with a fever before she passed out.
The 4-year-old told the dispatcher she was home with her siblings and even attempted to quiet her family's barking dogs at one point. “Okay, I'll let you know when they're there. Stay on the telephone with me until then,” the dispatcher said.
Emergency officials quickly arrived—but the door to the family's home was locked. Carefully following their instructions, Isla dragged a chair over to the door so she could reach the lock and let them in.
After the first responders were inside the home, Isla helped to keep her younger siblings calm and assured them that everything would be OK. She even made breakfast for them. Haley Glaser was taken to a local hospital, where she remained for four days before she was released from the hospital. No other details of her health were provided.
Isla was celebrated as a little “superhero” on Wednesday when she met the officers and dispatcher who helped her during the emergency. “Today we got to praise Isla for the great job she did—calling 911 to get her mom helped. World First Aid Day is a global observance that is held every year on the second Saturday in September to make people learn about how first aid can save lives. It was introduced in the year 2000 by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and has been celebrated each year ever since. Around 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies organize ceremonies and events on this day every year. The theme in 2018 was “First Responses to Road Crashes” to focus on the importance of giving first aid to save the lives of people involved in road traffic accidents.
Worldwide, about 2 million people are killed and 50 million are injured in road crashes each year; road accidents are the primary reason for death among young people aged 15 to 29, given that 49% of deaths are pedestrians. For motorcyclists, wearing a motorcycle helmet can reduce the risk of death in the event of a crash (by up to 40% ) and the chance of a serious injury (by up to 70% ). Seat belts reduce the risk of death by 45% to 50% for front-seat passengers and up to 75% for rear-seat passengers. Lack of oxygen (or hypoxia) is one of the most common causes of death among traffic accident victims. Road accidents right now rank as the 9th leading cause of death and are expected to climb up to the 7th position by 2030.
To respond to the theme of “First Responses to Road Crashes”, the IFRC has a toolkit(软件包) on their website that consists of an interactive quiz, posters, and learning materials on first aid in response to a road crash. The learning materials list the “Top 10 Prevention/Simple Actions to help avoid a car crash” and the “Top 10 First Aid Actions in case of the road accident”. The interactive quiz evaluates your behaviour on the road.
It is vital that everyone follows simple rules like respecting other people and traffic regulations, fastening seat belts, or wearing helmets and high-visibility protective clothing. All these can prevent road crashes. For more information please click here.
8.What can we know about World First Aid Day?
A.It was founded by IFRC.
B.It has a history of 30 years.
C.It is celebrated on the same day each year.
D.It mainly aims to reduce the traffic accidents.
9.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?

A new generation of opioids(阿片类药物) with fewer side effects is being explored by an Australian and Chinese research team.
Professor Maree Smith from the University of Queensland will present research on oliceridine being developed internationally, as well as results of her team's CYX-6 research project on Saturday at a meeting to be held by Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists during October 19—21 in Cairns.
Professor Smith's laboratory is exploring the new opioid, together with the Chinese researcher, Professor Li Tingyou from Nanjing Medical University. She stressed that while the research project was still in its early stages and would consume much more time and energy, laboratory tests had found that a newly discovered compound(复合物), CYX-6, spared laboratory rats from some of the more common side effects of opioids. Strong opioids that are now used for pain relief can have serious and sometimes deadly side effects, such as breathing problems.
“We've seen that in the US there are many people who are dying as a result of taking too many opioids because they stop breathing,” Professor Smith explained. “Though it's difficult, we are focusing on discovery of new opioid alternatives with a reduced risk of breathing difficulty. It is a hot topic in the research world at present. Our application of the compound would be a very positive step.”
Dr. Meredith Craigie, Dean of FPM, said opioid alternatives with fewer side effects like the one that is being investigated by Professor Smith required thorough study, and research into the possible unknown side effects of new opioids was an especially significant step in the development of potential new treatments for pain.
12.What is oliceridine?
A.An effective treatment.
B.A kind of operation.
C.A new opioid.
D.A piece of equipment.
13.What do we know about CYX-6?
A.It is found in the body of rats.
B.It prevents some side effects of opioids.
C.It is a compound used for pain relief.
D.It is newly invented by Professor Smith.
14.How does Professor Smith find their project?
A.Promising. B.Expensive.
C.Popular. D.Risky.
15.What did Dr. Meredith Craigie suggest?
A.Inventing opioids with better effects.
B.Testing the side effects of new opioids.
C.Developing new treatments for pain.
D.Using medicine for breathing difficulty.
Imagine going to the doctor to get treatment for a terrible fever. 16 The robot detects the cause of your fever, travels to the appropriate system and provides medication directly for the infected area.
17 They are called “nanorobot”(纳米机器人) and engineering teams around the world are working to design robots that will eventually be used to treat everything from fever to cancer.
In recent years, researchers have been building nanorobots out of a familiar material—the same stuff that makes human life possible. 18 DNA is all around and in you—you just can't see it. If you were to look inside almost any cell inside any living creature, you would find DNA.
This might sound surprising—especially since these nanorobots don't need batteries(电池) or any power sources. Instead, they work by using the natural structure of DNA.The nanorobots “crawl” (缓慢行进)on DNA. Sometimes researchers refer to these things as DNA “spiders”. 19 A nanorobot could, perhaps, destroy just a cancerous cell, for example, but leave healthy cells alone.
20 But the future is bright for nanorobots made from DNA. One day, perhaps the machine made from DNA will swim around in the human body, delivering medicine to diseased cells or helping doctors diagnose problems. Or maybe it'll help build the smallest computers the world has ever seen.
A.These nanorobots are made from DNA.
B.Nanorobots made from DNA aren't useful yet.
C.This description will give you a simple picture of the legs of a DNA nanorobot.
D.In other words, the DNA nanorobot destroys the track as it goes.
E.Being able to make such a tiny thing move in a certain way might be useful for health.
F.Instead of giving you a pill or a shot, the doctor puts a tiny robot into your bloodstream.
G.In fact, we're not that far from seeing devices like this actually used in medical procedures.

Lungs nearly burst. I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached the end of the pool.
The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?
Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified, I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide(滑梯). I was capable of more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely useless in a pool. Midway, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks really easy for you. Why aren't you applying to become a guard?”
“The thought didn't cross my mind.”
“Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete the certification.”
Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me—You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.
Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR (心肺复苏), and procedures for different land-based and water-based emergencies.
Work started soon. A well-intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.
Paragraph 1:
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself.
Paragraph 2:
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.

空后句中的They指代G项中的复数名词devices(设备),G项与空后句中的that will eventually be used to treat everything from fever to cancer(它们最终会用于治疗从发烧到癌症等各种疾病)呼应,故G项正确。

Dear readers,
It goes without saying that no pleasure can be tasted by man without health. Health is far more important than anything else. Good health enables us to enjoy our life and achieve what we hope for in our career. How can we keep healthy? Here are some suggestions for you to follow.
To begin with, we should follow a healthy diet. We should eat more fruit and vegetables and avoid food with lots of sugar and fat. What's more, we have to get rid of those habits that damage our health, such as drinking and smoking. Last but not least, we'd better exercise every day to make our body strong.
If you follow the advice given above, you will lead a healthy life.
Yours sincerely,

Paragraph 1:
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. Sure enough, with a closer look, I found the boy waving his hands desperately. I quickly dived into the water, swimming towards the boy at full speed. By the time I reached him, he had sunk to the bottom of the pool, which filled my heart with fright and concern. I picked the boy up and headed to the poolside, keeping his head above the water.
Paragraph 2:
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck. I could tell that he had no heartbeat and wasn't breathing. Every second counted! Without hesitation, I did first aid, performing CPR as trained. Other guards watching anxiously, I carried on, sweating. Suddenly, a stream of water burst out of his mouth and the boy coughed intensely. Seeing the boy regain consciousness, those around broke into cheers. Exhausted, I sighed with relief. I thought had I accepted that easy position, I would have been nothing but a bystander. I'm happy I didn't take the easy way out.

A.Some advice on safe driving.
B.Danger of breaking traffic rules.
C.Some facts about road accidents.
D.First-aid tips for road crashes.
10.What can you do with the toolkit?
A.Assess your car condition.
B.Finish a quiz to win awards.
C.Design posters about first aid.
D.Test your knowledge about first aid.
