Learning aims:

语言能力：主题：  世界上的语言

词汇：  billion, native, attitude, reference, refer, system, despite, factor…

语法：  理解并运用关系副词when, where, why引导的定语从句；理解in/on/at which在定语从句中相当于when, where。

学习能力： 运用寻读技巧快速找到阅读文本的相关信息；结合上下文理解词义。

文化意识： 了解汉字的发展史，思考未来汉字的发展与使用；了解联合国的六种工作语言，从多角度思考外语学习的动机，积极探寻和思考语言学习的各种技巧和方法。

思维品质： 通过观察语言和文化的发展，客观分析，辩证思考事物发展的因果关系；从多个视角认识世界，归纳与建构影响中国发展的多元因素。

Step 2 Discovering Useful Structures of the Attributive Clauses

定语从句  Attributive Clause /Relative Clause

1，定义：

 一个句子跟在一个名词或代词后进行修饰限定叫做定语从句。 

 按语法句式，定语从句在整个句子中做定语的成分。

 被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫先行词。

2， 关系词分为：

关系代词：who，whom，whose，which，that，as

关系副词：when，where，why

3，关系词的三大作用： 连接作用；替代作用；成分作用。

It is the day when we went to school.  代替the day, 做时间状语。

This is the house where I live. 代替the school, 做地点状语。

That is the reason why I go to school. 代替the reason, 做原因状语。

4，定语从句分类：限制性定语从句；非限制性定语从句。

关系副词    when，where，why引导的定语从句

定语从句可以由关系副词when，where，why等引导。

关系副词在从句中作状语。

当when，where引导定语从句时，其对应的先行词分别是表示时间的名词 和表示地点的名词。

当why引导的定语从句时，其对应的先行词是reason。

There are many reasons why people learn a foreign language.

关系副词 用法总结

I was on holiday the day when the earthquake happened.

She works near the place where my friend live.

I don’t know the reason why I didn’t get a pay-rise.

This is the cupboard in which I found Grandma’s glasses. 

 用法小练

 when 在从句中作 时间状语:

The first of October, 1949, is the day when the People’s Republic of China was founded. 

       when=on which

I’ll never forget the time           we visited Beijing.

Do you remember the day           we first met?  

(during) (on)

 where 在从句中作 地点状语:

This is the place  where  we first met.

where=in/at which

The hotel             we stayed was very clean.

I recently went back to the town          my father was born.

I’d like to live in a country        there is plenty of sunshine.

(at/in which)(in which)(in which) 

why 在从句中作原因状语:

That is the reason   why    he missed his bus. 

 (for which)

I didn’t get a pay rise, but this wasn’t the reason      I left.

The reason         he found German so difficult was because of ite grammar.

(for which) 

Step 3 Work in pairs. Ask and answer the questions.

A: What kind of day makes you happy?

B: It is a day when…….

A: Is it the day when we know each other?

B: Yes, it is.

A: What is your favourite place at school?

B: It’s……, because it is a place where…….

A: Is it a place where the people speak English?

B: No, it isn’t.

 A: What kind of teachers do you like best?

B: I like the teachers who……

A: Who do you admire most? Why?

B: I admire….That’s the reason why……

Step 4 Homework

1，Memorize the new words. (15 words per day).
2，Recite a beautiful sentence per day.
3，Workbook. (P96-97).
