Marie Curies, brn in Skldvka, Pland in 1876,led a hard life as a girl. Her parents, bth teachers,had small salaries and were quite pr, especially after her mther stpped teaching t raise five children and take care f her pr health. Marie's mther suffered frm tuberculsis (肺结核) and died f it when Marie was ten.
When Marie was small, she shwed great interest in science.She lved t study and hped t becme a scientist when she grew up. Finally they succeeded in 1902.

Rbert Michael Lipsyte is an American sprts jurnalist and authr. He was brn n January 16,1938 in New Yrk. Lipsyte's father was a schl head teacher, his mther a teacher. In the first chapter f his bk SprtsWrld,Lipsyte pints ut that he did nt even attend his first Majr League Baseball game until he was thirteen years ld.Lipsyte says he was very disappinted with his experience at the game and went t nly ne mre game “as a paying custmer”. His third Majr League Baseball game was as a sprts reprter fr The New Yrk Times.
As a by,Lipsyte did play sprts, but he felt acute pressure t d better than thers at sprts which discuraged his interest. This experience later develped int a majr theme in sme f Lipsyte's nnfictin wrks such as SprtsWrld and nvels like Jck and Jill and One Fat Summer. The main character f One Fat Summer, Bbby Marks, is an adlescent in the 1950s. He is verweight and des smething abut it. In 1952,Lipsyte tk a summer jb as a lawn(草坪) by and lst frty punds, ridding himself f the yuthful reputatin fr being fat.
In 1978,Rbert Lipsyte was diagnsed(诊断) with cancer. His experience with the illness led t anther nvel fr yung adults, The Chem Kid. Fred Bauer, the main character, is an rdinary high schl junir and discvers he has cancer. Amazingly, Fred acquires superpwers, apparently due t the treatments, and becmes “The Chem Kid”, fighting fr the envirnment and against drug dealers.
Lipsyte was given a psitin in the New Jersey Literary Hall f Fame(名人堂) in 1993. The Margaret A.Edwards Award is an American Library Assciatin literary award that annually recgnizes an authr and a specific bdy f his r her wrk fr “significant and lasting cntributin t yung adult literature”.
