Nwadays, wmen entrepreneurs (创业者) in tech face many challenges, such as difficulty in btaining funding and lack f guidance n patents. T help address this, UNESCO launched a prject called the African Wmen in Tech and AI (AWITAI), which is intended t train 150 wmen entrepreneurs frm 35 African cuntries in AI and data science.
Jihane Ouhejju is ne f the participants in this prject. With the training and supprt she received, she has been using technlgical innvatin t make psitive changes fr her cmmunity and the envirnment.
Brn in Mrcc, a cuntry frequently hit by drughts, Ouhejju has lng been cncerned abut a serius prblem acrss Africa: 20% t 40% f water is wasted during distributin thrugh water pipes. Grwing up in a family where access t water was always a challenge, she learned frm an early age that water is a precius resurce that needs t be carefully prtected.
T slve this prblem, Ouhejju develped an AI system. She is nw wrking with a Mrccan hardware partner t imprve her prduct. The partner prvides specialized sensrs that measure water pressure, flw speed and ther envirnmental data. These sensrs cllect data, which is then analyzed by the AI. The AI can quickly detect any issues in the water distributin netwrk and identify unusual cnditins at an early stage — befre they develp int serius failures.
Acrss Africa, mre wmen like Ouhejju are playing a key rle in shaping the future f technlgy. They are nt nly starting their wn businesses but als designing slutins t sme f the cntinent’s mst urgent prblems — such as water waste, energy shrtage, and fd insecurity — using their talents t drive sustainable develpment.

Plastic fd wrappers, bttles and caps are by far the mst cmmn items f litter fund n the wrld’s shrelines, a study has fund. Researchers lked at data frm mre than 5,300 surveys f castal litter t prduce the first glbal analysis f its kind. They fund the data in 355 existing studies n the subject.
“It’s the everyday stuff that we’re using,” said Richard Thmpsn, the funder f the University f Plymuth’s internatinal marine litter research unit. “Even in cuntries with fairly advanced waste management, thse are the dminant items n the shreline.”
He said he was nt surprised t see lts f single-use plastics in the data, but the fact that thse items turned up s cnsistently alng castlines acrss all seven cntinents had taken him aback.
T prduce the analysis, published in the jurnal One Earth, the researchers lked at data frm hundreds f studies and surces, searching fr surveys f shreline litter that were similar in methdlgy (方法论) and prvided data n the type f litter recrded. Their cnfidence in the figures fr each cuntry was based n hw many studies they fund fr that cuntry and ther factrs.
The infrmatin they cllected extended acrss 94 cuntries. Fd and drink-related plastics turned up in castal litter in 93% f thse places. N ther frm f litter was as cmmn. Plastic bags appeared in data frm 39% f cuntries and cigarettes in data frm 38% f cuntries. There were, hwever, sme reginal variatins. Plastic bags, fr example, were cnsistently cmmn in Asia.
The study als nted that a ban n plastic bags did nt necessarily mean a cuntry had less f such waste — pr plicy enfrcement r ther cuntries exprting their waste was suggested as a reasn fr this. The study did nt include micrplastics r unidentifiable plastics, but the authrs nted these tended t riginate frm larger, identifiable plastic litter.
8.What is the key finding f the researchers?
A.Glbal casts shw identical litter patterns.
      B.Fd-related plastics dminate castal litter.
C.Advanced management fails t reduce waste.
D.Daily necessities are underrated in terms f reuse.

A.Caught him red-handed.B.Taken him by surprise.
      C.Thrwn him int cnfusin.D.Left him heart-brken.
10.Hw did the researchers mainly arrive at their findings?
      A.By analyzing previus data.B.By gathering n-site data.
C.By using imprved methdlgy.D.By cnducting new surveys.
11.What des paragraph 5 mainly say abut the study?
      A.Its design.B.Its result.C.Its backgrund.D.Its limitatin.
Small, clrless, and blind cavefishes inhabit undergrund waters thrughut the eastern United States. In a new study, Yale researchers reveal insights int just hw these distinctive cave residents evlved — and prvide a unique methd fr dating the undergrund ecsystems where they reside.
In an analysis f the genmes (基因组) f all knwn blind species, the researchers fund that the different species clnized (定居) cave systems independently f each ther and separately evlved similar features — such as the lss f eyes and clr — as they adapted t their dark cave envirnments. Their findings are published in the jurnal Mlecular Bilgy and Evlutin.
By studying the specific genetic mutatins (突变) that caused the fishes’ eyes t degenerate ver time, the researchers develped a srt f “mutatinal clck” that allwed them t estimate when each species began lsing their visin. They fund that the visin-related genes f the ldest cavefish species, the Ozark cavefish, began degenerating up t 11 millin years ag. This technique prvides a minimum age fr the caves, as the cavefish must have been living in undergrund waters when their eyesight started t devlve.
T understand when the cavefish began ppulating caves, the researchers studied the fishes’ genmes, examining 88 visin-related genes fr mutatins. The analysis revealed that the varius cavefish ancestries had cmpletely different sets f genetic mutatins invlved in the lss f visin. This, they said, suggests that separate species clnized caves and adapted t thse undergrund ecsystems independently f each ther.
“A number f the mutatins we see in the cavefish genmes that lead t degeneratin f the eyes are similar t mutatins that cause eye diseases in humans,” said Thmas Near, senir authr f the study. “There is the pssibility fr translatinal medicine thrugh which by studying this natural system in cavefishes, we can cllect insights int the genmic mechanisms f eye diseases in humans.”
12.What did Yale researchers discver abut blind cavefishes?
      A.They evlved independently.
      B.They had identical mutatins.
      C.They shared cmmn ancestrs.
D.They develped at the same pace.
13.What is the functin f the mutatinal clck?
      A.Estimating cavefish ages.
      B.Cnfirming the frmatin f caves.
C.Identifying the time f visin lss.
      D.Imprving the undergrund ecsystems.
14.What evidence shws cavefish species clnized caves separately?
      A.Diverse genme numbers.B.Similar mutatin patterns.
      C.Different visin-lss mutatins.D.Unifrm genmic mechanisms.
15.What can be the best title fr the text?
      A.Mutatinal ClckB.Cavefish Evlutin

Is It Time t See Dyslexia (读写障碍) as a Superpwer?
Mst f us think we knw what dyslexia is: a disrder that prevents peple frm reading well. 16 That’s why we see the struggles that kids with dyslexia face in schl: falling behind in hmewrk, needing extra help, and feeling bad abut themselves.
But what if this “prblem” view is cmpletely wrng? 17 And what if a new way f lking at it wuld help these kids discver their superpwer? This is the surprising claim made in a new dcumentary, The Dyslexic Advantage.
Psychlgists Fernette and Brck Eide have cme t believe that dyslexia is “nt a disease, but a gift”. 18 They learn best thrugh direct experience, nt thrugh reading r repeating things ver and ver.
One f the mst creative ideas in The Dyslexic Advantage is a list f strengths, called MIND: Material reasning, Intercnnected reasning, Narrative (叙事性的) reasning, and Dynamic reasning. 19
T help explain these ideas, the film interviews successful peple in filmmaking, engineering, medicine, and art. 20 Fr example, Rbert Ballard, ne f the discverers f the Titanic wreck (沉船), used his strng dynamic reasning t find its lcatin.
Adpting this new apprach desn’t mean ignring a child’s prblems with reading and writing, nr des it exclude extra help in thse areas. But the mst imprtant idea is t help dyslexic kids build n their strengths, rather than fcusing exclusively n their weaknesses.
A.Simply put, dyslexic minds are specialized.
B.It hurts the brain’s ability t prcess written language.
C.What if dyslexia is a different thinking style with strengths?
D.What if dyslexia can be cmpletely cured with prper training?
E.Peple with dyslexia tend t be very gd at ne r mre f these.
F.These disadvantages caused by dyslexia shuld be seen as a trade-ff.
G.It turns ut that their success happened nt despite their dyslexia, but because f it.

But when Dad turned 18, he left fr the city. The family farm became a distant memry he rarely mentined, a place I knew nly frm ld phtgraphs in a dusty album.

Three mre families have sld their land t develpers. If things dn’t change, the rchard wn’t survive anther five years.”

Tw weeks later, we were driving dwn a narrw cuntry rad lined with autumn-tuched trees. The rchard stretched ut befre us — rws upn rws f apple trees heavy with fruit, the air sweet and fresh.
“Yu’re the ne wh knws scial media,” he said, as we walked thrugh the rchard. “All thse platfrms and vides yu’re always n. D yu think we culd use that t bring peple here? Farm turs, pick-yur-wn weekends, an nline stre fr ur apple juice and pies?”
I hesitated. What did I knw abut running a farm? I was a city kid wh’d never planted anything in my life. But lking at my father’s hpeful face — a face I’d never seen s vulnerable (脆弱的) — and then at Emma’s weary eyes, I felt smething shift inside me.
