Peple wh have an ptimistic view n life are mre likely t live lnger, a US study said Wednesday.
The study, published in the American Jurnal f Epidemilgy, analyzed data frm 2004 t 2012 frm 70,000 wmen enrlled in the Nurses’ Health Study, a lng-running US study tracking wmen’s health via surveys every tw years.
The researchers lked at participants’ levels f ptimism and ther factrs that might play a rle in hw ptimism may affect mrtality risk, such as race, high bld pressure, diet, and physical activity.
It fund the mst ptimistic wmen, r the tp 25%, had a nearly 30 percent lwer risk f dying frm any f the diseases analyzed in the study cmpared with the least ptimistic wmen, r the bttm 25%.
The mst ptimistic wmen had a 16 percent lwer risk f dying frm cancer; 38 percent lwer risk f dying frm heart disease; 39 percent lwer risk f dying frm strke; 38 percent lwer risk f dying frm respiratry disease; and 52 percent lwer risk f dying frm infectin.
Previus studies have linked ptimism with reduced risk f early death frm cardivascular (心脑血管的) prblems, but this was the first t find a link between ptimism and reduced risk frm ther majr causes.
“While mst medical and public health effrts tday fcus n reducing risk factrs fr diseases, evidence has been munting that enhancing psychlgical resilience (弹性,复原力) may als make a difference,” said Eric Kim, research fellw at the Harvard T.H. Chan Schl f Public Health and c-lead authr f the study.
