The sick birds likely cnsumed pisnus acid via small fish. It als tends t cllect in shellfish. And, accrding t a study published Tuesday, it may becme mre cmmn as ceans warm, threatening birds and humans alike.
Researchers have studied the rate f pisnus acid ver the past 20 years in the Pacific Nrthwest, and fund it strngly related t water temperatures that are warmer than nrmal.
Fr nw, warmer waters typically cmes frm events like EL Nin and a decades -lng climate cycle called "Pacific decadal scillatin," the study fund. It isn't yet clear hw climate change, which als warms the ceans, might affect the rate f the pisn.
"When water's unusually warm ff ur cast, it's because the circulatin and patterns in the atmsphere has changed, bringing warm water frm elsewhere - and this is happening at the same time that we als see high pisnus acid in shellfish, " Mrgaine McKibben, the study ' s lead authr said.
The pisn is prduced during warm dmic blms, and gets passed up the fd chain by animals that eat it. Sea lins, dlphins and humans are at risk. While sme animals can eventually clean themselves f the pisn, the threat can last a lng time after the warm water decreases.
Animals pisned by pisnus acid tend t becme weak, and experience death. Symptms in humans include headache, cnfusin, lss f shrt - term memry, weakness and uncnsciusness.
It isn't just a health risk. An Oregn State University statement ntes that fficials have t shut dwn shellfish harvests when pisnus acid levels are high, causing ecnmic harm.
Since health fficials first regarded pisn acid as a health threat in 1987, Pacific Nrthwest shellfish harvests have been stpped in 2005, 2017, and 2018. The West Cast crab(蟹)industry tk an estimated$100 millin hit in 2017 alne.

That qutatin was frm the Bible.” And he knew it.
The stryteller was sitting n my right; and Frank Gammnd, an ld friend f mine, was seated n my left. Mr. Gammnd had devted years t the study f Shakespeare. S the stryteller and I agreed t submit the questin t Mr. Gammnd. Mr. Gammnd listened, kicked me under the table, and then said,"Dale, yu are wrng. The gentleman is right. It is frm the Bible."

23.(8分)Did yu knw that sixty percent f yur bdy weight is water? Hwever, a lss f nly tw percent f this water thrugh dehydratin (脱水) during exercise can significantly affect yur perfrmance. The mre yu sweat, the mre yur exercise perfrmance declines, unless yu drink enugh t replace yur lss f fluids (液体).
When yu lse t much water, yu can verheat quite easily, especially in a warm envirnment. But this is nt the nly prblem yu may face. Despite these prblems, hwever, many f us simply d nt take enugh fluids in when we head fr the gym r set ut n a run.
S why is this? Hw d we manage t lse s much water withut simply drinking mre t replace it? Well, it’s easier than yu think. When we exercise, n the ther hand, ur thirst mechanism (结构) des nt wrk as effectively, s we dn’t ntice early enugh that we are actually thirsty. In fact, we nly start t fed thirsty when we have already lst arund tw percent f ur bdy weight.
Anther prblem is that, the mre dehydratin we becme during exercise, the mre difficult it is t prevent further dehydratin-because ur stmachs becme intlerant (不能容忍的) t fluids and we d nt absrb water prperly, just when we need it mst.
The key thing abut fluids and exercise is t manage yur intake prperly-regular small amunts are preferable, and sme shuld be drunk befre the perid f exercise begins. Yu als need t match yur intake t the srt f exercise yu are ding. Fr example, fr ne hur f exercise, such as taking part in a 10 km run, yu need t drink abut tw extra litres f water. Fr lnger perids f exercise, sprts drinks are recmmended.
