Grwing up in a small village in suthern Ghana, Osei Bateng witnessed his family and neighbrs struggle t access basic health care. Fr many villagers, the
nearest hspital was a several-hur jurney n rugh rads. His grandmther’s death frm a preventable illness deeply saddened him and fueled his desire t make a
difference.
Ghana faces significant health challenges: with a life expectancy f abut 64,
the cuntry sees high death rates frm treatable diseases like malaria and strke.
Determined t address this issue, Bateng studied diligently and earned a schlarship t Crnell University in the US, where he cmpleted a master’s degree in Healthcare Administratin.
During his studies, he realized that his hmeland lacked tw critical things: health educatin and preventive care. Villagers were t busy making a living t travel t hspitals fr regular check-ups. Early screening was rare, and many were unaware f the deadly risks psed by cnditins such as high bld pressure and diabetes (糖尿病).
In 2021, Bateng funded the OKB Hpe Fundatin and transfrmed a van (厢式货车) int a mbile medical clinic. Several times a week, a team f prfessinal
medical wrkers travels t remte villages, ffering free health check-ups, basic
medical tests, and essential medicines. T date, the van has served ver 4,000 peple acrss mre than 45 rural cmmunities.
Bateng’s team has als trained 20 lcal vlunteers t cllect health data,

Scientists have lng knwn that small marine creatures can attach t plastic
debris (碎片). After Japan’s massive 2011 tsunami, sme marine animals even
crssed the Pacific Ocean n flating waste. Hwever, a study published in Nature
Eclgy & Evlutin has revealed tw alarming findings. First, plastic enables castal
rganisms t prsper far frm their natural habitats. Secnd, these castal species are reprducing successfully in these distant ffshre areas.
Researchers inspected ver 100 pieces f plastic cllected frm an cean
garbage piece, where cean currents trap 79,000 tns f waste. They identified 484
marine rganisms belnging t varius species. Abut 70% f the plastic pieces
hsted at least ne type f castal rganism — far mre than initially expected. Mre surprisingly, tw-thirds fthe debris had bth castal and pen-sea species living
tgether. Plastic is nt merely a carrier f life; it is frming unnatural grups that researchers term “nvel cean cmmunities”
“We are witnessing castal and native pen-cean rganisms cexisting n
plastic,” says lead researcher Linsey Haram. “Human activity is essentially creating new eclgical grups in the pen cean.”
These mixed cmmunities may pse significant risks t native marine
ecsystems. Castal creatures culd cmpete with lcal species fr space and fd, r even feed n them. Scientists bserved castal rganisms reprducing: sme guarding their eggs, while thers were clning themselves. This indicates that these castal
species may establish permanent ppulatins in the pen cean.
The danger spreads glbally. Plastic debris can be carried t remte beaches,
where nn-native species might take rt. “If a species can reprduce, it can spread. If it can spread, it can invade (入侵),” ntes marine expert Linda Amaral-Zettler. This
invasin culd disrupt the balance f lcal cean ecsystems and push native species tward danger.
The study uncvers a hidden impact f plastic pllutin — beynd the
well-knwn harm t fish and seabirds. “We already knw a great deal abut animals getting stuck in plastic,” Haram says. “This research adds an unfreseen effect, urging us t reduce plastic waste urgently. Once plastic enters the pen cean, it’s nearly
impssible t reverse (逆转) the damage.”
8 .Which f the fllwing can be cncluded frm the study results?
A .Plastic is marine species’ main habitat.
B .Castal rganisms n plastic surprise us.
C .Open-sea species can adapt better t plastic.
D .Castal rganisms fail t reprduce naturally.
9 .What can be inferred abut the “nvel cean cmmunities” frm the text?
A .They will spread wrldwide.
B .They frm naturally in the cean.
C .They will disappear with less plastic.
D .They may threaten native species.
10 .What des the underlined wrd “disrupt” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A .Maintain. B .Imprve. C .Restre. D .Destry.
11 .What is knwn abut plastic pllutin befre the study?
A .It assists castal life t survive.
B .It enables rganisms t prsper.
C .It traps and harms sea creatures.
D .It creates nvel eclgical grups.

The past year has witnessed plenty f AI news, sme exciting and thers
wrrying, fcusing n jb lsses, versimplified music creatin and lst creativity.
Hwever, such a view, I think, is verly dramatic and misguided. Far frm weakening educatin, AI makes it mre essential, particularly fr music educatin.
Histry presents similar lessns. Radi was nce thught t wipe ut live
musical perfrmances. Electrnic instruments were predicted t replace traditinal music grups. TV and the internet were said t make teachers unnecessary in
classrms. Yet nne f these predictins have std the test f time. Technlgy creates new avenues (途径) fr human expressin, rather than rbbing us f ur humanity and creative essence.
Music educatin develps the cre skills tday’s students need mst: creativity, teamwrk, adaptability, empathy, and understanding cmplex ideas. These are
essential fr mdern wrkplace success with AI widely applied. While AI utshines
humans in pattern recgnitin and fast task cmpletin, it lacks intentinal creatin, emtinal cnnectin, r genuine human cperatin. These are the areas where
humans utperfrm AI, and musicians stand ut in mastering such skills.
Students develp creativity by plishing musical phrases in practice. They build teamwrk skills in grup sessins, where active listening and nn-verbal (非语言的) cmmunicatin play a vital rle. They develp adaptability by adjusting t cnductrs and different venues. These practical abilities link clsely t creative tech careers and human-AI cperatin in varius fields.
Educatr Nick Fster prpses a balanced apprach t AI in music educatin: use AI t design persnalized practice and accmpaniments, develp tls supprting teachers nt replacing them, explre student-AI cperatin fr music arrangement, and avid ver-reliance n technlgy replacing human interactin in music-making.
In the AI age, creativity and empathy are mre crucial than ever. Music
educatin remains an irreplaceable part f educatin — we need mre musicians,
teachers and pprtunities t share musical jy, smething n advanced technlgy can replace.
12 .What can we infer frm Paragraph 2?
A .Past technlgy wrries are unfunded.
B .Electrnic instruments are irreplaceable.
C .Technlgy weakens human creativity.
D .The Internet exceeds classrm teachers.
13 .Hw d humans gain an advantage ver AI?
A .By prcessing infrmatin rapidly.
B .By recgnizing patterns effectively.
C .By mastering infrmatin exchange skills.
D .By using creative and emtinal abilities.
14 .What’s Nick Fster’s attitude t AI in music educatin?
A .AI helps rather than replaces teachers.
B .AI has n equal in music arrangement.
C .AI shuld be strictly restricted.
D .AI shuld nt be depended n.
15 .Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
A .AI: A Big Challenge t Music Educatin
B .Music Educatin: Irreplaceable in the AI Age
C .Technlgy: New Ways fr Human Expressin
D .Human-AI Cperatin: The Future f Music Creatin

Handwriting vs Typing: A Brain Perspective
Nwadays, typing has becme a cmmn way fr students t take ntes and
recrd ideas in class and in daily life. 16 It is faster, mre cnvenient, and
easier t keep rganized in digital frm. Many peple fully depend n typing withut thinking abut its hidden influences. But des this efficient way really help with
learning and memry?
Cmpared with typing, handwriting affects ur brain in deeper and mre special ways. 17 This careful and patient prcess leads t better understanding and
strnger, lnger-lasting memries, which are key t effective learning.
Our dminant hand als prvides clues abut hw the brain wrks. Abut 90
percent f peple are right-handed. 18 Studies shw that left-handed and
ambidextrus (双手都灵巧的) peple ften have mre balanced brain activity. Their language and psitinal skills are spread acrss bth halves f the brain, which
supprts different thinking abilities.
19 The first reasn is that it requires many brain systems t wrk
tgether. When writing by hand, we use fine mtr skills, language prcessing,
visual-psitinal ability, and fcused attentin at the same time. This jint activity creates strng cnnectins in the brain and greatly imprves memry and
cmprehensin.
A 2014 study clearly shwed the benefits f handwriting. Students wh tk ntes by hand culd prcess infrmatin in their wn wrds. 20 Anther study added that nly hand-writing created strng brain cnnectivity linked t
memry frmatin, while typing did nt have this effect.
In daily life, we can chse t take ntes by hand when facing difficult
knwledge r keep a shrt handwritten jurnal. Over time, this small change will imprve ur attentin, learning ability, and cgnitive (认知) health.
A .Why des handwriting influence the brain s differently?
B .It makes us think mre carefully and rganize ideas better.
C .Mst peple chse typing mainly fr its speed and cnvenience.
D .They perfrmed much better n understanding and memry tests later.
E .Sme students can type very quickly when teachers are speaking in class.
F .Why d s many students still prefer typing t handwriting in daily study?
G .Left-handed and tw-handed peple shw different brain rganizatin patterns.
