根据第一段““Hw much lnger?” she asked with increasing frequency during ur return trip t Stanfrd.(“还要多久?” 以及第二段“By the time we turned nt Campus Drive, it had becme a repeated shut: “Hme!
根据第三段“Cra has lived as a resident fellw kid in drms since she was ne. She’s cnnected t the land and its inhabitants: the cast live ak trees she climbed and the annual summer ants int every campus kitchen. She’s tied t its peple — ntably, cllege students.(科拉从一岁起就作为住宿研究员的孩子住在宿舍里。

(原创题)Human language is cmplex and rich, yet frm the view f infrmatin science, the same messages culd be sent in a much mre cmpressed frmat. This leads t a puzzle: why dn't we cmmunicate like cmputers using nly nes and zers?
Michael Hahn, a linguist, and Richard Futrell frm the University f Califrnia tried t slve this puzzle. They created a mdel explaining the structure f human language. They fund that althugh human language seems inefficient, it actually fits hw ur brains wrk best.
Their research shws that human language is shaped by ur real-life experiences. Fr example, if smene uses an invented wrd like "gl" t describe half a cat and half a dg, n ne wuld understand it because it desn't match ur shared knwledge f the wrld. Human language wrks because it cnnects t familiar cncepts. This makes cmmunicatin easier. A scrambled wrd might be shrter, but it is meaningless t listeners.
The brain prefers familiar patterns t reduce effrt. Althugh digital cde might send infrmatin faster, it wuld be t difficult fr ur brains t prcess because it is detached frm daily life. Hahn cmpares this t driving t wrk. A familiar rute feels easy and autmatic, while a shrter but unknwn rute requires full attentin and feels tiring. Similarly, when we speak naturally, ur brains use far fewer "bits" f energy because we rely n deeply learned patterns.
This prcess is called "predictive prcessing." When we hear a sentence, ur brain guesses what wrd cmes next based n what we already knw. Fr instance, hearing "The five green..." makes us expect a cuntable, plural, green bject. Only when we hear the final wrd, like "cars," des the meaning becme clear. This way f speaking reduces uncertainty step by step. In shrt, human language is designed t save mental energy, nt t save space. These findings might als help imprve artificial intelligence by teaching it t cmmunicate mre like humans.
28. Why d scientists think human language is inefficient?
A. It is t difficult fr cmputers t understand.
B. It is nt based n real-life experiences.
C. It uses t many wrds t express ideas.
D. It cannt be cmpressed int digital cdes.
29. What des the authr intend t shw by using the example f "gl"?
A. The imprtance f creating new wrds.
B. The difficulty f learning a new language.
C. The link between language and shared experience.
D. The cmplexity f human linguistic structures.
30. What is the main purpse f the "cmmuting" example in Paragraph 4?
A. T explain why new rutes are mre challenging.
B. T cmpare human brains with cmputer prcessrs.
C. T prve that familiar patterns reduce mental effrt.
D. T shw the imprtance f daily driving experience.
31. What can we infer frm the last paragraph abut human language?
A. It is designed t save strage space.
B. It aims t minimize cgnitive lad.
C. It relies n guessing wrds randmly.
D. It is inefficient fr artificial intelligence.
C 29. C 30. C 31. B
根据第一段 "Human language is remarkably rich and intricate. Yet frm the standpint f infrmatin thery, the same ideas culd theretically be transmitted in a far mre cmpressed frmat." C "It uses t many wrds t express ideas"(用太多词表达想法)符合文意。选项 A 和 B 文中未提及;选项 D 与文中 "encding speech as binary sequences... wuld be mre efficient"(将语言编码为二进制会更高效)矛盾。
紧接着下一句 "Human language wrks because it cnnects directly t shared knwledge and lived experience" 直接点明了语言与共享经验的联系。 C "The link between language and shared experience"(语言与共享经验的联系)。
根据最后一段 "In shrt, human language is designed t save mental energy, nt t save space."

(原创题)Sme f the cean's tp predatrs are facing a "duble jepardy" (双重危险)as rising temperatures threaten their survival. A new study reveals that warm-bdied fish like tunas and sharks, which can keep parts f their bdies warmer than the surrunding water, use nearly fur times mre energy than cld-blded fish f similar size. This high-perfrmance lifestyle allws them t swim faster and hunt better, but it cmes at a huge cst: they need t cnsume far mre fd t fuel their bdies.
The researchers fund that as these fish grw larger, their bdies naturally generate and retain heat mre effectively due t basic physics. While this helps them stay warm, it als creates a dangerus risk f verheating. If water temperatures rise t high, these large fish cannt release heat quickly enugh t maintain a stable bdy temperature. Fr example, a large warm-bdied shark may struggle t survive in waters abve 17°C withut changing its behavir.
T avid dangerus warming, these fish must slw dwn, dive int cler depths, r migrate tward the ples. Hwever, diving deeper makes it harder t find fd, and mving tward cler regins limits their habitat. As glbal temperatures cntinue t rise, the suitable living space fr these species is expected t shrink significantly, especially during warmer mnths.
This situatin is made wrse by the fact that many f these species are already heavily impacted by verfishing. With their energy needs increasing and their fd surces ptentially becming scarce, they are being pushed clser t their physilgical limits. The study highlights that climate change is nt just warming the ceans, but is als narrwing the survival ptins fr these marine giants.
32. Why d warm-bdied fish face a "duble jepardy" accrding t the text?
A. They need mre fd while their living space is shrinking.
B. They cannt swim fast enugh t catch their prey.
C. They are t large t hide frm human hunters.
D. They are lsing their ability t cntrl bdy heat.
33. What is the main challenge fr large warm-bdied fish as they grw bigger?
A. Finding enugh cld-blded fish t eat.
B. Balancing the heat they prduce and lse.
C. Migrating lng distances acrss the cean.
D. Cmpeting with ther predatrs fr fd.
34. What can be inferred abut the future f these species frm the text?
A. They will easily adapt t warmer waters.
B. Their ppulatin will increase rapidly.
C. Their survival will becme increasingly difficult.
D. They will stp diving int deep waters.
35. What is the main purpse f this text?
A. T describe the hunting methds f sharks.
B. T warn abut the impact f climate change n marine life.
C. T cmpare different types f fish metablism.
D. T prmte new fishing regulatins.
A 33. B 34. C 35. B

36.根据上文“Our slar system is named after the Latin wrd fr sun, “Sl”. The thing abut ur slar system is that while there are lts f ther suns and planets ut there(我们的太阳系是以拉丁语中“太阳”的词“Sl”来命名的。 故选A。
37.根据上文“Mst ther systems feature planets rbiting clser t their parent sun than Mercury (水星) des, the clsest planet t Sl.
38.根据后文“Other systems have planets with highly nn-circular rbits, similar t thse f cmets (彗星). In ur slar system, the planetary rbits are nearly circular and the planets are widely spaced. Other systems have planets gruped clsely tgether, like peas in a pd.(其他星系中的行星有着极为不规则的轨道,类似于彗星的轨道。
39.根据上文“Astrnmers, and scientists in general dn’t like “special” things. They like things that are “usual” r “typical” because that allws explanatin. Yet, when faced with smething unusual, they seek t understand it as well.(天文学家以及所有科学家都不喜欢“特殊”的事物。
