Purdue University researchers have engineered flying rbts that behave like
hummingbirds, trained by machine learning algrithms (计算程序) based n varius techniques the bird uses naturally every day. The rbt wuld be able t fly better thrugh cllapsed
      buildings t find trapped victims.
Even thugh such a rbt can’t see yet, it senses by tuching surfaces. Each tuch changes an electric current, which the researchers realized that they culd track. Xinyan Deng, a prfessr, and her clleagues at Purdue have been trying t decde (破译) hummingbird flight s that rbts can fly where larger aircraft can’t. Deng’s grup studied hummingbirds themselves fr many
summers in Mntana. They dcumented key hummingbird actins, such as making a rapid
180-degree turn, and translated them t cmputer algrithms that the rbt culd learn frm when cnnected with a simulatin (模拟操作).
Further study n the physics f insects and hummingbirds allwed Purdue researchers t
build rbts smaller than hummingbirds--and even as small as insects-withut cmprmising the way they fly. The smaller the size, the greater the wing flapping frequency, and the mre
efficiently they fly. The rbts have 3D-printed bdies and wings made f carbn fiber. The
researchers have built ne hummingbird rbt weighing 12 grams--the weight f the average adult hummingbird. The hummingbird rbt can lift up t 27 grams.
Designing their rbts with higher lift gives the researchers mre rm t eventually add a battery and sensing technlgy, such as a-camera r GPS. Currently, the rbt needs t be tied t an energy surce while it flies-but that wn’t be fr much lnger, the researchers say. The rbts
culd fly silently just as a real hummingbird des, making them mre ideal fr cvert (转换)
      peratins.
Rbtic hummingbirds wuld nt nly help with search-and-rescue tasks, but als allw
bilgists t mre reliably study hummingbirds. In their natural envirnment thrugh the senses f a realistic rbt. This wrk is part f Purdue’s 1501° anniversary. This is ne f the fur themes f
the celebratin’s Ideas Festival, designed t shw Purdue as an intellectual center slving real-wrld issues.
46 .The hummingbird rbt culd be helpful in searching fr victims .
A .in a very wide area B .in a desert
C .in a dark place D .in the sea
47 .What can we knw abut the hummingbird rbt?
A .It is as light as an insect. B .It can fly t any place.
C .It can see where t g. D .The smaller it is, the better.
48 .What is the disadvantage f the rbtic hummingbird at present?
A .It barely lifts its weight. B .It’s nt equipped with a battery.
C .It can’t fly t high in the sky. D .It prduces a little nise utside.
49 .Besides being useful in rescues, the hummingbird rbt can help .
A .bilgists t study hummingbirds B .bilgists t study wildlife
C .transprt dangerus gds D .prtect birds in the wild
      D
We all have ur bad days. N ne is ging t wake up each and every mrning in a cheery md. Smetimes we all feel just a little bit grumpier (脾气暴躁的) than usual, and that’sjust a
part f being human. Yet nce we get t the ffice, many in the wrkfrce feel it necessary t hide their emtins, whether they are in frustratin, anger, r sadness. Interestingly, a new study finds keeping ne’s behavir at the ffice authentic will result in greater prductivity and a better
relatinship with c-wrkers. In ther wrds: act hw yu feel, and dn’t fake it.
It’s extremely cmmn fr the average wrkspace t preach an attitude f cntinuus
psitivity. While this may be beneficial frm the CEO’s viewpint, it just isn’t realistic when
applied t real peple with real prblems and daily hardships. That’s why, the research team have
cncluded, emplyees will actually feel better, wrk harder, and cnnect mre with their clleagues if they dn’t hide their feelings with a fake smile.
Over 2,500 wrking adults, frm a variety f industries such as finance r engineering, tk part in this research via surveys. The questinnaires measured tw distinct types f n-the-jb
emtinal regulatin: surface acting and deep acting. Surface acting means faking happiness while interacting with ther emplyees; and deep acting refers t actively trying t change ne’s
emtins and feelings in rder t be mre pleasant at wrk. The study’s authrs were interested t see hw cmmn it is fr wrking adults t regulate their emtins while n the clck, and if s. Why? What benefits are emplyees gaining frm such behavir?
After analyzing all f the survey respnses, researchers identified fur distinct types f
individuals wh hide r regulate their emtins arund c-wrkers. “Nn-actrs” rarely hide their true feelings, and if they d, nly t a very small extent. “Lw actrs” usually take part in nly
slight deep and surface acting. “Deep actrs” perfrm lts f deep acting and lw levels f surface acting, and “Regulatrs” exhibit high levels f bth surface and deep acting.
By far nn-actrs were the smallest identified grup in the study. Regulatrs, r emplyees wh tend t hide their true feelings mst ften, are usually mtivated by feelings f self-interest. These peple believe that by hiding their feelings they will gain access t additinal wrk
resurces and lk gd in frnt f their managers and c-wrkers. Deep actrs, n the ther
hand, are usually mre mtivated by “pr-scial” factrs. This means they chse t hide their emtins because they believe it develps a healthier wrking envirnment. Regulatrs are the mst likely f the fur t experience great emtinal tiredness and exhaustin. Meanwhile, deep actrs tend t achieve imprved well-being mst frequently.
      50 .Many ffice wrkers tend t .
A .shw their anger B .behave naturally
C .fcus n their jbs nly D .pretend t be happy
51 .What des the underlined wrd “preach” mean in the secnd paragraph?
      A .Prmte. B .Frbid. C .Change. D .Ignre
52 .Hw was the study carried ut?
      A .By perfrming experiments.
      B .By analyzing questinnaire data.
C .By taking field trips t ffices.
      D .By interviewing CEOs.
53 .What d we knw abut “regulatrs”?

C .They like t build an image that will benefit them.
D .They are self-interested and will d whatever it takes t succeed.
