The world’s longest waterway, the Grand Canal, was built to transport grain from the basin to northern cities.HistoryThe basin of the Yangtze River is one of the longest inhabited (有人居住的) places of China. It has always been important economically for its agricultural advantages. It provides about half of all the fish and two-thirds of the rice eaten in China.Wildlife The Yangtze River is home to over 350 kinds of fish. Animals found near the river include the pangolin and the red panda. Wildlife living in the surrounding areas of the river has been put at risk because of its overuse and pollution. So, fishing has been banned (禁止) at the river since 2021. Three Gorges Dam Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydroelectric power station. The electricity produced by it is enough to provide about 200 million homes with power.
