In first grade, I tk a spelling test with the wrd “f” n it. O-F. “Of.” Every student that day spelled the wrd crrectly except Malclm, the slwest in the class. He had spelled the wrd U-V. “Uv.” I remember thinking “Geez, hw silly is this kid?” But as I sat there, I realized that spelling “f” with a U and a V made a lt mre sense than with an O and an F, which were
crrespnding t sunds nthing t d with the wrd “f”.
Why was this ever-s-simple wrd spelled in this cmpletely illgical way? The best
answer I culd cme up with at the time was: That’s just the way it is, that’s what adults tld me was the truth, and that’s hw I have t spell the wrd t get it right and be a gd student. S I

better just shut up, lk smart, and use an O and an F.
I didn’t knw it then, but this little realizatin was my first brush with an understanding f what indctrinatin was. All f us in the class that day s quietly and withut questin accepted a truth because it was backed by authrity and traditin. It was the rule, and the wrld wuld see
Malclm as silly, and nt the spelling.
The spelling f“f” may nt be a wrthy battle t build a life arund, but this memry
helped me becme aware f the fact that the wrld is a place that cmes with a lt f strange rules that we ften fail t questin. As a teenager, I called these rules “uvisms”.
Grwing up, I recgnized the presence f these uvisms in the expectatins and assumptins pressed n me by my surrundings. Many f them are there fr gd reasns. Many are nt. Yu dn’t have t fllw all f them. I believe in the misspelling f the wrd “f” and the necessity fr each generatin t questin the assumptins f the previus.

      A .Reasnable. B .Childish. C .Creative. D .Casual.

Berlin’s East Side Gallery attracts millins f visitrs each year. Turists crwd befre
vibrant murals (壁画) painted after the Cld War, but few pause t cnsider what lies beneath the paint: an riginal sectin f the Berlin Wall. The art has becme the attractin; the histry it
cvers has faded int backgrund. This pattern extends far beynd Berlin. Acrss the glbe, ld buildings fall fr new develpments. The lgic seems unarguable: cities must grw, ecnmies must expand. But what disappears when we erase (清除) the physical traces f ur past?
Urban histrian Dlres Hayden describes cities as “palimpsests” — manuscripts written
upn repeatedly, earlier versins never fully erased. In her study f Ls Angeles, she dcumented hw develpment prjects repeatedly tre dwn cmmunities inhabited by Mexican-American
and African-American families, replacing them with freeways and squares. The new structures
served ecnmic ambitins, but they als erased material evidence that these cmmunities ever
existed. “When the buildings disappear,” Hayden writes, “s des the tangible (有形的) prf that these peple lived here, wrked here, mattered here.”
Sme argue that memry can survive thrugh phtgraphs and dcuments. In fact, there is a difference between knwing abut a place and experiencing it. A phtgraph f an ld church cnveys its appearance; walking thrugh its drs cnveys smething else entirely — the height f the ceiling, the ech f ftsteps, the weight f silence. These are nt details; they are the
      substance f embdied memry.
Research in envirnmental psychlgy suggests that physical spaces maintain cllective identity. When cmmunities lse familiar landmarks, they lse reference pints that cnnect
individuals t shared histry. The result can be spatial disrientatin — nt merely nt knwing where yu are, but nt knwing wh yu are in relatin t thse wh came befre.
Nne f this argues against all develpment. Every generatin inherits a city and passes ne n. Sme walls are meant t fall. Others are meant t stand — physical spaces grund memry in ways that images alne cannt, grunding us in a past that cntinues t shape wh we are.
8 .What is the functin f paragraph 1?
A .T present a phenmenn and intrduce the tpic.
B .T cntrast histrical significance with mdern appeal.
      C .T criticize the ver-cmmercializatin f histric sites.
D .T explain why histry is verlked and underestimated.
9 .What des the example f Ls Angeles intend t illustrate?
A .The cst f urban develpment. B .The rle f ecnmic ambitins.
C .The preservatin f tangible prf. D .The success f redevelpment prjects.
10 .What can be inferred abut the cmmunities lsing landmarks?
A .They cherish shared histry. B .They face identity cnfusin.
C .They maintain cllective identity. D .They priritize grwth ver memry.
11 .What des the text cnvey?
A .Histry utweighs art in value. B .Phts preserve memry inadequately.
C .Cities face a grwth-r-histry chice. D .Physical spaces hld irreplaceable memry.

Chatbts ffer a persnal shpper fr all. They can listen t what a user wants, prduce a shrtlist f prducts and help with cmparisns. Increasingly, cnsumers can even make
      purchases directly thrugh a chatbt.
AI firms are betting that their technlgy will disrupt shpping just as e-cmmerce did in the internet age. OpenAI has struck deals with Shpify and Etsy, an nline marketplace fr
artisanal wares (手工制品), t allw merchants t sell their prducts thrugh its chatbt in return fr a fee. Ggle is als eyeing the market fr s-called agentic cmmerce.
Retailers (零售商), hwever, are nt sitting back. Many e-cmmerce websites are indignant at the idea f an AI agent getting between them and their custmers. Amazn, the wrld's biggest nline mall, is eager t keep shppers cming t its website. It has blcked OpenAI frm
cllecting infrmatin. Meanwhile, sme retailers, including Walmart, have develped shpping assistants ftheir wn. Research suggests that Americans prefer such bts ver third-party nes like ChatGPT when shpping.
Julie Brnstein, funder f Daydream, an AI fashin-shpping tl, ntes that chatbts are mre helpful when searching fr sme gds than thers. They excel when prducts have
clear, cmparable specificatins — like vacuum cleaners, fr which retailers list weight and pwer. But in deeply persnal areas, such as fashin, mst struggle.
Hw enthusiastically cnsumers turn t AI fr shpping may als depend n hw much chatbt-makers embrace ads t make mney. Ggle has reprtedly tld marketers that it will integrate ads int its Gemini chatbt next year. That culd weaken the perceived bjectivity f these tls, and thus turn ff shppers.
As AI upends nline shpping, physical stres gain renewed imprtance. With brwsing
shifting away frm retailers’ and brands’ wn websites, shps with striking displays and charming assistants will ffer anther way fr cmpanies t shape hw they are perceived. Plenty f
shppers say that they value human interactins when shpping. They still want t tuch and feel certain types f prducts, such as clthes. And at this time f year, heading t the high street ffers a chance t sak up sme festive cheer.
12 .What des the underlined wrd “indignant” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A .Excited. B .Surprised.
      C .Angry. D .Cnfused.
13 .What is a likely dwnside f putting ads int chatbts?
A .Chatbts may becme less prfitable.
      B .Recmmendatins may becme biased.
C .Retailers may be frced t cut their prices.
D .Shppers may stp visiting physical stres.
14 .What is highlighted in the last paragraph?
A .The value f ffline shpping.
B .The disappearance f high streets.
      C .The ppularity f AI-run physical stres.
D .The necessity f maintaining brand image.
15 .What's the text mainly abut?
A .Hw AI is reshaping shpping.
B .Why physical stres regain ppularity.
C .Hw retailers are reacting t AI agents.
D .Why chatbts wrk better fr sme gds.
      第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
      根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As humanid rbts begin t enter warehuses and factries, a critical questin arises: d we need special safety rules fr them? The answer is yes, and fr several imprtant reasns.
16 Unlike traditinal industrial rbts that can be stpped instantly by hitting an
emergency buttn, humanids are “dynamically stable.” This means they need pwer t stay
upright. If yu cut the pwer, they will likely fall ver, ptentially causing serius injury t nearby wrkers.
There is the challenge f defining what exactly needs t be regulated. Hw shuld we
classify a humanid rbt? Des it need legs? Arms? A head? 17 This apprach wuld allw safety standards t keep pace with technlgical innvatin withut being limited by
      appearance.
Cmmunicatin between rbts and humans presents anther cncern. If rbts are t share space with peple, they must be able t signal their intentins clearly. Fr instance, a rbt
walking arund a crner needs t indicate its directin s that peple are nt surprised.
      18
There is a psychlgical factr t cnsider. Peple naturally expect mre frm rbts that lk like human. 19 Experts recmmend that safety standards include emtinal safety assessments t prevent cnfusin r stress.
These standards help cmpanies build trust in their prducts and sell them mre easily in
different cuntries, while als giving regulatrs a clear guide fr creating their wn rules.
20 As Vicentini ntes, a practical standard must find a balance between cmpeting
interests, and “everybdy equally unhappy is gd enugh,” since aiming fr perfect agreement is simply nt realistic.
A .Humanid rbts pse unique physical risks.
B .Withut clear dialgues, accidents will happen.
C .Interactins between humanid rbts can prevent accidents.
D .Many believe that physical features are essential fr safety standards.
E .Peple may let their guard dwn, thinking the rbts understand mre than they d.
F .Hwever, agreeing n glbal regulatins is hard due t different cncerns in the field.
G .Experts suggest drpping the term “humanid” and fcusing n a rbt’s abilities instead.

      4 .推理判断题。根据第一段“But as I sat there, I realized that spelling f with a U and a V made a lt mre sense than with an O and an F, which were crrespnding t sunds nthing t d with the wrd f (但当我坐在那里时,我意识到用 U 和 V 拼写f 这个词,比用 O 和 F 要合理得多,因为 O 和 F 的发音与 f 这个词毫无关系)”可知,作者后来认为 Malclm 的拼写是合理的。故选 A。
5 .细节理解题。根据第二段“The best answer I culd cme up with at the time was: That’s just the way it is, that’s what adults tld me was the truth, and that’s hw I have t spell the wrd t

      有所作为这一点也荡然无存了。”)”可知,洛杉矶这个例子意在说明城市发展的成本。故选A。
10 .推理判断题。根据第四段“When cmmunities lse familiar landmarks, they lse reference pints that cnnect individuals t shared histry. The result can be spatial disrientatin — nt

11 .主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Nne f this argues against all develpment. Every generatin inherits a city and passes ne n. Sme walls are meant t fall. Others are meant t stand —
