Althugh Aurra’s pups were nly fur weeks ld, Susie already saw differences amng them. Plut was naughty, while Sunshine was shy, and Fxy was a tease. Fudge was the mst respnsive t her. Actually. Fudge was the smallest ne.
“Will yu be my lead dg smeday when yur mther Aurra is ld?” Susie said, hlding Fudge’s tiny face t hers. “He’s awfully small,” Susie’s mther said. His brthers and sisters were already twice his size. “He’ll grw fast,” Susie said. “I’ll train him right alng with the thers.”
Training puppies was a family affair. Susie’s mther and father raised thirteen strng dgs. Susie planned t make her best team this time. Susie trained each f them fr their rles. Aurra was surely the leader f her fur-dg team. As fr Fudge, Susie wuld als give Fudge a small branch when she ften let team dgs pull branches as a kind f training. He kept pulling it even when the ther pups kncked him ver. He kept wrking at tasks that Susie gave him, n matter hw tired he gt. Susie lved him fr trying s hard.
When spring snw melted int summer, Susie ran her pups thrugh flwered fields and wded hills t keep them in shape. She felt delighted when Aurra prved t be a gd leader and the team did well. Unexpectedly, Fudge gt the summer grwth that she hadn’t cunted n. Thugh nt fficially belnging t the team, every practice, Fudge did his best beynd Susie had imagined.
