Cleary was in her early 30s and wrking a part time jb in a bkstre when she sat dwn at a typewriter t see if just maybe she culd write a bk fr kids. She had wrked as a librarian befre Wrld War II,and she wished she'd had bks fr yung readers abut children’s living everyday lives.
“I think children want t read abut nrmal everyday kids,”she tld NPR in 1999. “That’s what I wanted t read abut when I was grwing up. I wanted t read abut the srt f bys and girls that I knew in my neighbrhd and in my schl. I think children like t find themselves in bks.”
Her first bk,Henry Huggins,came ut in 1950.Henry had a friend named Beezus,and Beezus had a mischievus(爱恶作剧的)but lvable little sister named Ramna.
