    On August 3, 2020, a New Jersey schlteacher named Julia Mney put n a buttn-dwn dress and wre it t wrk. She wre it the next day and the next. In fact, she cntinued t wear that same dress fr 100 days in a rw. Julia wanted t get peple—her middle schl students, in particular—thinking abut fashin in a new way and hw we live in what she describes as a "culture f excess", clsets verflwing with clthes far mre than we need.
    At first, Julia said nthing t her students abut her experiment. There was n frmal class discussin until several weeks later, at which pint the students were respnsive. Julia said that her students culd really understand the idea that we need t judge each ther based n what we d but nt what we wear. "As they try t define themselves, the students are ften identifying themselves with brands r utward things. Many seemed excited t have a reasn t talk abut hw silly all f that really is," she said.
    A quest fr greater simplicity is partly what inspired Julia in the first place. On her website, she wrte that "spending a lng time thinking and wrrying abut what t wear in the mrning will be a thing f the past". It als slved the prblem f limited clset space in an ld huse.
    If there was a tear(裂口), Julia patched it with her sewing machine. She was careful with it s she wre an aprn(围裙) t keep it clean-—just like peple did in years gne by. She washed the dress n weekends.
    "The challenge I'm presenting is this: Let's think befre we buy it, wear it, thrw it away and buy ne again. Are we just perpetuating(使持续) a culture that defines us based n what we're wearing rather than what we're ding? What if we spent ur energy trying t be gd interesting humans instead f trying t lk gd and interesting?" she said.
    Julia herself is back t wearing pants t wrk, but the effect f the experiment lingers.
