Step Ⅰ Warm-up
1. Read and match
T asks Ss to read the sentences and try to say the meaning of each word. Then try to match them with the words.
(1) Polluted water is not healthy.
(2) It’s something we can use again.
(3) The water in the river was very dirty.
(4) It’s not true that we don’t listen to students.
(5) It was not possible to clean up the whole river.
(6) The people on the mountain top were not comfortable.

设计意图:用同义词搭配的模式导入本课主题,为下面的构词法讲解做准备。
Step II Presentation
Language Practice
Read the sentences to the class. Tell Ss to note that sometimes we can change a word by adding something onto the front (a prefix), sometimes by adding it onto the end (a suffix).
Learning to learn
构词法
1. 将两个或两个以上独立且语义不同的单词合在一起构成新词的方法称作合成法。
2. 英语构词法中把一种词性转化为另一种词性而词形不变的方法称为转化法。
3. 通过在词根前面加前缀或在词根后面加后缀构成一个新词的方法称作派生法。
前缀:
(1)表示否定意义“无,不”的前缀:
un- in- dis- im-
(2) 表示“再”的前缀:re-
(3) 表示“错误地”前缀:mis-
后缀:
(1) 表示“可能,易于,适合于”-able
(2) 表示“充满……的,具有……性质的”-ful
(3) -less与-ful相反,表示“少的,不足的”
设计意图:先练习,后总结,为学生自我学习总结做好支撑。
Step III Practice
Activity 1
1. Put Ss in pairs to make as many new words as possible, using Box A and Box B.
2. Find out which pair has made the most words.
3. Elicit and check the words.
English for Fun
1. Put Ss in groups of four. Groups have to match words from the first step in Activity 1 to the definitions.
2. Check answers as a class.
设计意图:通过例句和组词活动帮助学生识别和了解构词法的相关知识。
Activity 2
1. Ask Ss to read the sentences and check meaning.
2. Tell Ss to complete the sentences using the words in the box, then compare answers with their desk partner.
3. Check answers as a class.
设计意图:训练学生在单句的语境中,进一步操练含有前缀和后缀的合成词,并可进一步扩大词汇量。
Activity 3
1. Put Ss in pairs to complete the table.
2. Check answers as a class.
设计意图:通过活动,学生可以学习同一个单词派生出来的不同词性的派生词,还可以通过这一活动了解不同词性的词的意义和常用后缀的含义。
Activity 4
1. Ask Ss to read and complete the sentences with the words in Activity 3.
2. Allow Ss to compare their answers with their desk partner before checking answers as a class.
设计意图:学生在语境中实际运用词汇,是词汇输出活动。
Activity 5
1. Ask Ss to read the example sentence and tell which two words the answer is made up of (lunch +box).
2. Point out this is a very common method of making words in English.
3. Complete Sentence 1 as a class, eliciting the answer.
4. Ask Ss to complete the remaining sentences.
5. Check answers in pairs, then as a class.
设计意图:在操练合成词的练习中,学生借助所给的英文解释,写出正确的合成词。
