    My father, Arthur H. Keller, was a captain in the Cnfederate Army, and my mther, Kate Adams, was his secnd wife and many years yunger. Her grandfather, Benjamin Adams, married Susanna E. Gdhue, and lived in Newbury, Massachusetts, fr many years. Their sn, Charles Adams, was brn in Newburyprt, Massachusetts, and mved t Helena, Arkansas. When the Civil War brke ut, he fught n the side f the Suth and became a brigadier-general. He married Lucy Helen Everett, wh belnged t the same family f Everetts as Edward Everett and Dr. Edward Everett Hale. After the war was ver the family mved t Memphis, Tennessee.
    I lived, up t the time f the illness that deprived me f my sight and hearing, in a tiny huse cnsisting f a large square rm and a small ne, in which the servant slept. It is a custm in the Suth t build a small huse near the hmestead as an annex t be used n ccasin. Such a huse my father built after the Civil War, and when he married my mther they went t live in it. It was cmpletely cvered with vines, climbing rses and hneysuckles. Frm the garden it lked like an arbur. The little prch was hidden frm view by a screen f yellw rses and Suthern smilax. It was the favurite haunt f humming-birds and bees.
    The Keller hmestead, where the family lived, was a few steps frm ur little rse-bwer. It was called “Ivy Green” because the huse and the surrunding trees and fences were cvered with beautiful English ivy.
