Step 1 Warming-up

1. Guide Ss to think and say the formal and informal language according to the key aspects.

Step 2 Presentation

1. Guide Ss to match people with the language.
2. Guide Ss to classify the greetings.
3. Guide Ss to classify the endings.

Step 3 Practice

1. Guide Ss to put the words in the correct blanks.
2. Offer Ss two letters. Guide Ss to read and judge the letters.

3. Kitty is writing to J. K. Rowling, the British writer, to tell her something about Harry Potter. Guide Ss to help Kitty check the language she is using and improve it if necessary. Then ask Ss to rewrite the letter.

Step 4 Production

Guide Ss to write a letter to the headmaster to advise him to organize a school trip.
