You know,  Confucius was a great educator,  and he had many great ideas about education. For example,  he talked about the relationship between learning and reflecting. He believed that learning without reflecting leads to confusion. Oh,  look,  the temple is just over there.  

William:  Oh,  great!  What ’s that big building over there?

Xiao Kong:  Oh,  that ’s the famous Dacheng Hall. You know,  it ’s so well-respected in Qufu that no other building in the city can be 5. taller than it.

Xiao Kong:  OK,  no problem!  So come and meet my study group—we can tell you all about the temple. And how long are you staying in Qufu?  I can show you the Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion as well.

　　Good morning,  ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to this fantastic tour of London by bus. My name ’s Greg and I am your guide this afternoon. As you can see,  we ’re on an open-top bus,  so you can see all the attractions from your seats and you don ’t need to walk anywhere. And please don ’t worry about the rain;  I ’m sure it ’ll stop soon. Well,  it ’s two o ’clock and the tour takes three hours. First we ’ll see Madame Tussauds,  the museum with candle models of famous people. And then we ’ll drive along the most famous shopping street in the world,  Oxford Street. We can buy many souvenirs in the shops. After that we ’ll see the famous clock Elizabeth Tower. As we drive along the river we ’ll see the popular attraction,  the London Eye,  from which you can see the whole city on sunny day. Then we ’ll see Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Finally we ’ll drive back to Buckingham Palace at 4: 30,  just in time for a cup of tea with the Queen. No,  not exactly,  but there ’s a lovely cafe near the palace where you can get a cup of tea.

　　连读的条件: 相邻的两词在意义上必须密切相关, 同属一个意群。连读所构成的音节一般都不重读, 只需顺其自然地一带而过, 不可读得太重。

1. “辅音+元音”型连读

连读在同一个意群里, 如果相邻两词中的前一个词是以辅音结尾, 后一个词是以元音开头, 这就要将辅音与元音拼起来连读。

2. “r/re+元音”型连读

如果前一个词是以-r或者-re结尾, 后一个词是以元音开头, 这时的r或re不但要发/r/, 而且还要与后面的元音拼起来连读。

3. “辅音+半元音”型连读

英语语音中的/j/和/w/是半元音, 如果前一个词是以辅音结尾, 后一个词是以半元音, 特别是/j/开头, 此时也要连读。

4. “元音+元音”型连读

如果前一个词以元音结尾, 后一个词以元音开头, 这两个音往往也要自然而不间断地连读到一起。
