Waters has lng been encuraging peple t care abut where their fd cmes frm. In 1993, she put frward the idea f a White Huse vegetable garden. It was nt until 2009 that Michelle Obama started the garden in the backyard f the White Huse. She and members f the kitchen staff spent hurs tending t the garden, ften with help frm lcal schl children.
“That gave peple a sense that she cared abut children and cared abut where ur fd cmes frm,” Waters said, praising the frmer First Lady's cncern fr yung peple's health. “We are just building this mvement, and it is very exciting.”
“Thrugh the Edible Schlyard prgram, students als learn abut the benefits f healthy eating in the classrm.” Neglia said. “P. S. 216 is teaching kids abut careers in the fd industry—such as farming and agriculture, nutritin, fd safety, and the restaurant business.”
