    NEW POST

I can’t control my big mouth and I cannot keep secrets that my friends tell me. At school, I often talk loudly a lot in class. I have made myself look bad. I want to change this. What should I do?
    REPLIES

It’s OK. Some people just naturally love to talk. However, when your talking starts to make other people unhappy, it’s time to take a look at your habits. First of all, when you tell your friends’ secrets to others, this makes it hard for your friends to trust you.
Good friends are trustworthy and never tell secrets to other people. Think about how you would feel if one of your friends revealed your secret. If you always remember this, you won’t give away any secrets.
As for talking loudly in class, if you do it too much, your teacher will probably punish you. That should remind you to stop doing it so much.

I had two best friends named Jim and Peter. They had a fight over a basketball match, so Jim came to me and complained about how Peter didn’t pass the ball to him. Days later, they got over it. But one day, when we were on our way home from school, I made a slip of the tongue and mentioned this to Peter. His smile disappeared and he walked away. Jim also was angry with me because he thought I betrayed (背叛) him.
What’s worse, some other students also heard the gossip and started to ignore me. It was really painful. There was nothing I could do but sincerely apologize to them. I decided to keep a low profile (行事低调) and try not to give away any more secrets.
Anyone can make a slip of the tongue. But we need to think carefully before we act. It can hurt people and cause us to lose friends.

It took place in a teacher’s family. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school, when he accidentally threw the ball at his mother’s favourite vase on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor and a large piece broke off. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together discreetly and put the vase back to its place.
The mother soon noticed the cracks (裂纹) that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he broke the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbour’s cat jumped in from the window and he couldn’t drive it away no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally knocked the vase off its shelf. His mother was quite clear that her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son’s nervous eyes, Ben’s mother remained calm. She realized she shouldn’t just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea.
Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished but, as he had already lied, he was determined to deny everything to the end, no matter how angry his mum became.
In the study, his mother’s face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push open the door and cautiously enter, she took a chocolate box out of a drawer and gave him one.
The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!” The son was surprised. But before he could say anything, the mother continued, “This chocolate is a reward for your ability to repair the vase. A good effort!” The mother made no mention of her son’s mistake, offering only encouragement and praise for what he did, along with chocolates as rewards.
Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared. He tried to say something but his mother stopped him. She gave a soft kiss on his forehead and walked out of the room. After the incident, life at the home was the same as before. The only change was that the boy never lied again. Whenever he thought of lying, the chocolates would flash before him right away.

A.Patient and wise. B.Confident and kind.
    C.Friendly and calm. D.Strict and hard-working.

Imagine this. There's an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, Willpower: Rediscovering Our Greatest Strength, suggests that willpower(意志力)is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term.
Here is a famous experiment in the book: The Marshmallow Test. In 1972, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow(棉花软糖)on a table in front of them. They were given two choices: they could either eat it or, if they waited fifteen minutes, they'd be given a second one(and then they could eat both).
So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, 70% ate the first marshmallow within the fifteen minutes. But the other 30% showed willpower—they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow. But then Mischel discovered something really interesting. Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who'd shown strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.
Willpower is like a muscle(肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.
So, if you do daily "self-control exercises", such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, you'll improve your overall willpower. And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.
Be careful though. Just like any muscle, your "willpower muscle" can get tired. If you've had to do lots of things that require willpower, take a break or give yourself a treat.
That way, you’ll build up your willpower again.
And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!
38.How many children got two marshmallows in the Marshmallow Test in 1972?
    A.180. B.240. C.420. D.600.
39.In Paragraphs 2&3, the famous experiment explains __________.
    A.more kids have stronger willpower
    B.willpower influences people's lives greatly
    C.how people practice children's willpower
    D.marshmallows can help improve willpower
40.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A.all the language learners have stronger willpower
B.will power can't be improved by doing some daily things
C.young kids don't need to practice willpower like grown-ups
D.people with strong willpower can achieve their goals more easily
41.According to the passage, people who ________ might have strong willpower.
A.do regular piano practice every day B.give up morning running halfway
C.eat as much junk food as they like D.usually get up late on the cold morning

There are millions of recipes (菜谱) hidden in the boxes and hearts of grandmother and parents. These family recipes are a special part of our family history. Some of them have been passed down from generation to generation.
“I realized I couldn’t go home every weekend for my mum’s delicious dishes,” says Shreya, who is about to enter university. Shreya has recently started following her mother around the kitchen, taking notes on how to make her “masala chai” and tasty kachoris.
“Those special tastes can immediately unlock a whole flood of emotions, memories and feelings of family, love, and comfort,” says she.
She adds, “I am looking to the day when my kids will come to know of their grandmothers through the dishes they cooked.”
But many of us find it difficult to keep the food connection with our busy life. Even if we have time, not many of us take the effort to collect and record the recipes from our grandmothers and parents. We often get a recipe on the phone and take it down quickly on a piece of paper. We just stick it onto the fridge for a week or two and forget about it as soon as the paper disappears from there.
Actually, there are simple ways to keep family recipes. Scrapbooks (剪贴薄) are easily found in the market. You can even add photos to record every detail of your memories about the recipe. With the help of some popular apps like Story Scans, recording family recipes has never been easier. What is needed is to scan the recipes and record the story behind each of them. It can become the most meaningful work you have ever done with and for your family.
Keeping family recipes is saving and honoring our tradition so that future generations can continue to make family ties stronger. Every time you remember your loved ones, recreate one of the dishes from your collection and let the memories from the good old days comfort you. So why not gift your kids a family recipe book when they are starting a new life?
42.Why does Shreya follow her mother around the kitchen?
    A.To help make “masala chai”.
    B.To prepare family dinners.

43.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
    A.The fridge. B.The phone call.
    C.The food connection. D.The recipe.
44.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Ways to record recipes can be easy.
B.Most people like writing recipe books.
C.Recipes have become popular with kids.
D.People often buy recipe books in the market.
45.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
    A.Family Recipes: Secrets of Cooking.

    C.Family Recipes: Connections to Interests.
D.Family Recipes Are Easy to Lose.

Christopher Columbus is often said to be the one who made the discovery of “The New World”, now known as the Americas, in 1492.46.
Born around 970 AD, Leif spent his early years learning from a man called Thyrker. Leif learnt many things from him, including reading and writing. When Leif was not learning, he watched ships coming into the harbour and talked with sailors.47.
At the age of 12, Leif and his family decided to leave Iceland for a new home. On the voyage to find a new land, Leif learnt how to be a good sailor.48. When he was 15, Leif showed a good understanding of the ocean. One day, Leif saw a young polar bear on some ice and wanted to catch it. However, the water between the land and ice was moving too quickly in one direction to sail across.49. He went upstream from the bear and let the water push his boat backwards to the ice. After catching the bear, he did the same thing to get back to the land.
Due to his knowledge of the ocean, Leif was asked to captain his own voyage to bring gifts to the king of Norway when he was 24. After that, Leif wanted to explore more. He decided to go and find an island another explorer once sailed past.50. From here, Leif travelled south and found the land he had heard about. It was Newfoundland, Canada, part of North America.
A.They found a new land which Leif’s father called “Greenland”.

    10 years old十岁;10-year old语法错误;10-year-old十岁;10-years-old语法错误。 故选A。
    2.
    good好的,形容词原级;better更好,比较级;the best最好,最高级;well好,副词原级。
    other其他的;another另一个;others其他的(人或物);the other(两者中的)另一个。 故选A。
    5.
    if如果;until直到;because因为;although尽管。
    for为,给;after在……之后;before在……之前;with和……
    that无意义;whether是否;how怎样;what什么,……
    checked一般过去时;has checked现在完成时;was checked一般过去时的被动语态;was checking过去进行时。
故选A。
    11.
    take动词原形;taken过去分词;to take不定式;taking动名词。

    16.(m)issed
    17.(w)ithout
    18.(r)ead
    19.(d)ifficult
    20.(p)hotographs/(p)hotos/(p)ictures

    16.
根据“It’s not as much fun in the lessons…you.”

根据第二段“To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good.
根据第一段“…Ben was playing basketball in the living room…”、“…the terrified boy glued the pieces together…”和第五段“The mother said, ‘This chocolate is a reward for your imagination…’”以及最后一段“The only change was that the boy never lied again.”
故选A。

In 1972, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds.以及But the other 30% showed willpower—they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow.
But then Mischel discovered something really interesting. Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who'd shown strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.
And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals,
So, if you do daily "self-control exercises", such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, you'll improve your overall willpower.

根据文中“Actually, there are simple ways to keep family recipes.” 故选A。

根据文中“These family recipes are a special part of our family history. Some of them have been passed down from generation to generation.”

    46.
根据“Christopher Columbus is often said to be the one who made the discovery of “The New World”, now known as the Americas, in 1492”可知上文介绍1492年哥伦布发现“新大陆”,现在被称为美洲。
    47.
根据“When Leif was not learning, he watched ships coming into the harbour and talked with sailors.”
    48.
根据“On the voyage to find a new land, Leif learnt how to be a good sailor.”
    49.
根据“One day, Leif saw a young polar bear on some ice and wanted to catch it... was moving too quickly in one direction to sail across”可知上文介绍了列夫抓住冰上的熊,但是遇到了困难,下文“He went upstream from the bear ...”
    50.
根据“He decided to go and find an island another explorer once sailed past.”
    51.used to taking off
    根据中文提示,take off“脱下”;get used to doing sth“习惯做某事”;可知填动名词;故填used; to; taking; off。
    52.must be built up
故填must;be;built;up。
    53.If rains won’t play
故填If;rains;won’t;play。
    54.why they are dancing
故填why;they;are;dancing。
    55.What beautiful
故填What;beautiful。
    56.范文:
