Nw, fr the first time ever we can explre the whle f this great cuntry, meet sme f the surprising and extic(异国的) creatures that live here and cnsider the relatinship f the peple and wildlife f China t the remarkable landscaping which they live.This is wild China.Our explratin f China begins in the warm subtrpical (亚热带的)suth.On the Li River fishermen and birds stand n bamb rafts(木筏)．The partnership that ges back mre than a thusand years.This scenery is knwn thrughut the wrld，an everlasting tpic in Chinese paintings and a majr turist attractin.


In a fldplain f the Yangtze River, black­tailed gdwits(黑尾鹬) search in the mud fr wrms.But it isn't just wildlife that grw in this envirnment.The grund als prvides ideal cnditins fr the remarkable member f the grass family­rice.The Chinese have been cultivating rice fr at least 8 thusand years.It has transfrmed the landscape.


Late winter in suthern Yunnan is a busy time fr lcal farmers as they prepare the age­ld rice field ready fr the cming spring.These hill slpes f Yuanyang cunty plunge(斜插) nearly 2，000m t the flr f the Red River Valley.Each cntains thusands f terraces carved ut by hand using basic digging tls.Yunnan's rice terraces are amng the ldest human structures in China still plughed as they always have been by cws whse ancestrs riginated in these very valleys.This man­made landscape is ne f the mst amazing engineering achievements f pre­industrial China.It seems as if every square inch f land has been pressed int cultivatin.
